Chapter 1. About this anual
Thi manual contain ervice and reference information for Lenovo All-In-One 520 erie computer li ted on
the cover. It i intended only for trained ervicer who are familiar with Lenovo computer product .
Before ervicing a Lenovo product, be ure to read the Safety Information.
The de cription of the TV-tuner card in thi manual applie only to computer with a TV-tuner card in talled.
It doe not apply to computer without a TV-tuner card.

Chapter 2. Safety infor ation
Thi chapter contain the afety information that you need to be familiar with before ervicing a computer.
General safety
Follow the e rule to en ure general afety:
• Keep the area around the computer clear and clean during and after maintenance.
• When lifting any heavy object:
1. En ure you can tand afely without lipping.
2. Di tribute the weight of the object equally acro both feet.
3. Lift lowly. Never move uddenly or twi t when you attempt to lift.
4. Lift by tanding or by pu hing up with your leg mu cle ; thi action remove the train from the
mu cle in your back.
Do not attempt to lift any objects that weigh more than 16 kg (35 lb) or objects that you think are too
heavy for you.
• Do not perform any action that would create a hazard for the cu tomer, or would make the computer
un afe.
• Before you tart the computer, en ure that other ervice repre entative and cu tomer per onnel are not
in a po ition that would create a hazard for them.
• Place removed cover and other part in a afe place, away from all per onnel, while you are ervicing the
computer.
• Keep your tool ca e away from area that people may walk through to en ure no-one trip over it.
• Do not wear loo e clothing that can be trapped in the moving part of a machine. En ure that your leeve
are fa tened or rolled up above your elbow . If your hair i long, tie or fa ten it back.
• In ert the end of your necktie or carf in ide clothing or fa ten it with a non-conductive clip,
approximately 8 centimeter (3 inche ) from the end.
• Do not wear jewelry, chain , metal-frame eyegla e , or metal fa tener for your clothing.
Re e ber: Metal object are good electrical conductor .
• Wear afety gla e when you are: hammering, drilling oldering, cutting wire, attaching pring , u ing
olvent , or working in any other condition that might be hazardou to your eye .
• After ervice, rein tall all afety hield , guard , label , and ground wire . Replace any afety device that
i worn or defective.
• Reattach all cover correctly before returning the computer to the cu tomer.
Electrical safety
CAUTION:
Electrical current fro power, telephone, and co unication cables can be hazardous. To avoid
personal injury or equip ent da age, disconnect any attached power cords, teleco unication

cables, network cables, and ode cables before you open the co puter covers, unless instructed
otherwise in the installation and configuration procedures.
Ob erve the following rule when working on electrical equipment.
I portant: U e only approved tool and te t equipment. Some hand tool have handle covered with a oft
material that doe not in ulate you when working with live electrical current . Many cu tomer have rubber
floor mat near their equipment that contain mall conductive fiber to decrea e electro tatic di charge.
• Find the room emergency power-off (EPO) witch, di connecting witch, or electrical outlet. If an electrical
accident occur , you can then operate the witch or unplug the power cord quickly.
• Do not work alone under hazardou condition or near equipment that ha hazardou voltage .
• Di connect all power before:
– Performing a mechanical in pection
– Working near power upplie
– Removing or in talling Field Replaceable Unit (FRU )
• Before you tart to work on the computer, unplug the power cord. If you cannot unplug it, a k the
cu tomer to power-off the electrical outlet that upplie power to the machine and to lock the electrical
outlet in the off po ition.
• If you need to work on a computer that ha expo ed electrical circuit , ob erve the following precaution :
– En ure that another per on, familiar with the power-off control , i near you.
Re e ber: Another per on mu t be there to witch off the power, if nece ary.
– U e only one hand when working with powered-on electrical equipment; keep the other hand in your
pocket or behind your back.
Re e ber: There mu t be a complete circuit to cau e electrical hock. By ob erving the above rule,
you may prevent a current from pa ing through your body.
– When u ing a te ter, et the control correctly and u e the approved probe lead and acce orie for
that te ter.
– Stand on uitable rubber mat (obtained locally, if nece ary) to in ulate you from ground uch a
metal floor trip and machine frame .
Ob erve the pecial afety precaution when you work with very high voltage ; the e in truction are in
the afety ection of the maintenance information. U e extreme care when mea uring high voltage .
• Regularly in pect and maintain your electrical hand tool to en ure they are afe to u e.
• Do not u e worn or broken tool and te ter .
• ever assume that power ha been di connected from a circuit. Fir t, check that it ha been powered off.
• Alway look carefully for po ible hazard in your work area. Example of the e hazard are wet floor ,
non-grounded power exten ion cable , condition that may cau e or allow power urge , and mi ing
afety ground .
• Do not touch live electrical circuit with the reflective urface of a pla tic dental mirror. Thi urface i
conductive, and touching a live circuit can cau e per onal injury and damage to the computer.
• Do not ervice the following part with the power on when they are removed from their normal operating
po ition in a computer:
– Power upply unit
– Pump
– Blower and fan
– Motor generator
and imilar unit . (Thi practice en ure correct grounding of the unit .)

• If an electrical accident occur :
– U e caution; do not become a victim your elf.
– Switch off power.
– Send another per on to get medical aid.
Safety inspection guide
The intent of thi in pection guide i to a i t you in identifying potential hazard po ed by the e product .
Each computer, a it wa de igned and built, had required afety item in talled to protect u er and ervice
per onnel from injury. Thi guide addre e only tho e item . However, good judgment hould be u ed to
identify potential afety hazard due to attachment of feature or option not covered by thi in pection
guide.
If any hazard are pre ent, you mu t determine how eriou the apparent hazard could be and whether you
can continue without fir t re olving the problem.
Con ider the following item and the afety hazard they pre ent:
• Electrical hazard , e pecially primary power (primary voltage on the frame can cau e eriou or fatal
electrical hock).
• Explo ive hazard , uch a a damaged CRT face or bulging capacitor
• Mechanical hazard , uch a loo e or mi ing hardware
The guide con i t of a erie of tep pre ented a a checkli t. Begin the check with the power off, and the
power cord di connected.
Checkli t:
1. Check exterior cover for damage (loo e, broken, or harp edge ).
2. Power-off the computer. Di connect the power cord.
3. Check the power cord for:
a. A third-wire ground connector in good condition. U e a meter to mea ure third-wire ground
continuity for 0.1 ohm or le between the external ground pin and frame ground.
b. The power cord hould be the appropriate type a pecified in the part li ting .
c. In ulation mu t not be frayed or worn.
4. Remove the cover.
5. Check for any obviou alteration . U e good judgment a to the afety of any alteration .
6. Check in ide the unit for any obviou hazard , uch a metal filing , contamination, water or other
liquid , or ign of fire or moke damage.
7. Check for worn, frayed, or pinched cable .
8. Check that the power- upply cover fa tener ( crew or rivet ) have not been removed or tampered
with.
Handling electrostatic discharge-sensitive devices
Any computer part containing tran i tor or integrated circuit (IC ) hould be con idered en itive to
electro tatic di charge (ESD). ESD damage can occur when there i a difference in charge between object .
Protect again t ESD damage by equalizing the charge o that the computer, the part, the work mat, and the
per on handling the part are all at the ame charge.

1. U e product- pecific ESD procedure when they exceed the requirement noted here.
2. Make ure that the ESD protective device you u e have been certified (ISO 9000) a fully effective.
When handling ESD- en itive part :
• Keep the part in protective package until they are in erted into the product.
• Avoid contact with other people while handling the part.
• Wear a grounded wri t trap again t your kin to eliminate tatic on your body.
• Prevent the part from touching your clothing. Mo t clothing i in ulative and retain a charge even when
you are wearing a wri t trap.
• U e the black ide of a grounded work mat to provide a tatic-free work urface. The mat i e pecially
u eful when handling ESD- en itive device .
• Select a grounding y tem, uch a tho e li ted below, to provide protection that meet the pecific
ervice requirement.
Note: The u e of a grounding y tem i de irable but not required to protect again t ESD damage.
– Attach the ESD ground clip to any frame ground, ground braid, or green-wire ground.
– U e an ESD common ground or reference point when working on a double-in ulated or battery-
operated y tem. You can u e coax or connector-out ide hell on the e y tem .
– U e the round ground-prong of the AC plug on AC-operated computer .
Grounding require ents
Electrical grounding of the computer i required for operator afety and correct y tem function. Proper
grounding of the electrical outlet can be verified by a certified electrician.
Safety notices
The CAUTION and DANGER afety notice in thi ection are provided in the language of Engli h.
DANGER
Electrical current from power, telephone and communication cable i hazardou .
To avoid a shock hazard:
• Do not connect or disconnect any cables or perfor installation, aintenance, or reconfiguration
of this product during an electrical stor .
• Connect all power cords to a properly wired and grounded electrical outlet.
• Connect any equip ent that will be attached to this product to a properly wired outlet.
• When possible, use one hand only to connect or disconnect signal cables.
• Never turn on any equip ent when there is evidence of fire, water, or structural da age.
• Disconnect the attached power cords, teleco unications cables, network cables, and ode
cables before you open the device covers, unless instructed otherwise in the installation and
configuration procedures.

• Connect and disconnect cables as described in the following table when installing, oving, or
opening covers on this product or attached devices.
To Connect To Disconnect
1. Turn everything OFF.
2. Fir t, attach all cable to device .
3. Attach ignal cable to connector .
4. Attach power cord to outlet.
5. Turn device ON.
1. Turn everything OFF.
2. Fir t, remove power cord from outlet .
3. Remove ignal cable from connector .
4. Remove all cable from device .
CAUTION:
When replacing the lithiu battery, use only Part Nu ber 45C1566 or an equivalent type battery
reco ended by the anufacturer. If your syste has a odule containing a lithiu battery, replace
it only with the sa e odule type ade by the sa e anufacturer. The battery contains lithiu and
can explode if not properly used, handled, or disposed of.
Do not:
• Throw into or i erse in water
• Heat to ore than 100°C (212°F)
• Repair or disasse ble
Dispose of the battery as required by local ordinances or regulations.
CAUTION:
When laser products (such as CD-ROMs, DVD-ROM drives, fiber optic devices, or trans itters) are
installed, note the following:
• Do not re ove the covers. Re oving the covers of the laser product could result in exposure to
hazardous laser radiation. There are no serviceable parts inside the device.
• Use of controls or adjust ents or perfor ance of procedures other than those specified herein
ight result in hazardous radiation exposure.
DANGER
So e laser products contain an e bedded Class 3A or Class 3B laser diode. Note the following:
These diodes e it radiation when open. Do not stare into the bea , do not view directly with optical
instru ents, and avoid direct exposure to the bea .

Chapter 4. General Checkout
Attention: The drive in the computer you are ervicing might have been rearranged or the drive tartup
equence may have been changed. Be extremely careful during write operation uch a copying, aving, or
formatting. Data or program can be overwritten if you elect an incorrect drive.
General error me age appear if a problem or conflict i found by an application, the operating y tem, or
both. For an explanation of the e me age , refer to the information upplied with that oftware package.
U e the following procedure to help determine the cau e of the problem:
1. Power-off the computer and all external device .
2. Check all cable and power cord .
3. Set all di play control to the middle po ition.
4. Power-on all external device .
5. Power-on the computer.
• Look for di played error code .
• Look for readable in truction or a main menu on the di play.
If you did not receive the correct re pon e, proceed to tep 6.
If you did receive the correct re pon e, proceed to tep 7.
6. If one of the following happen , follow the in truction given:
• If the computer di play a POST error, go to “POST error code ”.
• If the computer hang and no error i di played, continue at tep 7.
7. If the te t top and you cannot continue, replace the la t device te ted.

Chapter 5. Using the Setup Utility
The Setup Utility program i u ed to view and change the configuration etting of your computer, regardle
of which operating y tem you are u ing. However, the operating y tem etting might override any imilar
etting in the Setup Utility program.
Starting the Lenovo BIOS Setup Utility progra
To tart the Lenovo BIOS Setup Utility program, do the following:
1. If your computer i already on when you tart thi procedure, hut down the operating y tem and turn
off the computer.
2. Pre and hold the F1 key then turn on the computer. When the Lenovo BIOS Setup Utility program i
di played, relea e the F1 key.
Note: If a Power-On Pa word or an Admini trator Pa word ha been et, the Setup Utility program menu
will not be di played until you type your pa word. For more information, ee “U ing pa word .”
Viewing and changing settings
Sy tem configuration option are li ted in the Lenovo BIOS Setup Utility program menu. To view or change
etting , ee “Starting the Setup Utility program.”
You mu t u e the keyboard when u ing the Lenovo BIOS Setup Utility menu. The key u ed to perform
variou ta k are di played on the bottom of each creen.
Using passwords
You can u e the Lenovo BIOS Setup Utility program to et pa word to prevent unauthorized per on from
gaining acce to your computer and data. See “Starting the Setup Utility program.” The following type of
pa word are available:
• Admini trator Pa word
• Power-On Pa word
You do not have to et any pa word to u e your computer. However, if you decide to et pa word , read
the following ection .
Password considerations
A pa word can be any combination of letter and number up to 16 character (a-z and 0-9). For ecurity
rea on , it i a good idea to u e a trong pa word that cannot be ea ily compromi ed. We ugge t that
pa word hould follow the e rule :
• For a trong pa word, u e 7-16 character and a mix of letter and number .
• Do not u e your name or your u er name.
• Do not u e a common word or a common name.
• U e omething ignificantly different from your previou pa word.
Attention: Admini trator and Power-On pa word are not ca e en itive.

Ad inistrator Password
Setting an Admini trator Pa word deter unauthorized per on from changing configuration etting . You
might want to et an Admini trator Pa word if you are re pon ible for maintaining the etting of everal
computer .
After you et an Admini trator Pa word, a pa word prompt i di played every time you acce the Lenovo
BIOS Setup Utility program.
If both the Admini trator and Power-On Pa word are et, you can type either pa word. However, you mu t
u e your Admini trator Pa word to change any configuration etting .
Setting, changing, or deleting an Ad inistrator password
To et an Admini trator Pa word, do the following:
Note: A pa word can be any combination of letter and number up to 16 character (a-z and 0-9). For
more information, ee “Pa word con ideration ” on page 13.
1. Start the Lenovo BIOS Setup Utility program ( ee “Starting the Lenovo BIOS Setup Utility program” on
page 13).
2. From the Security menu, elect Set Ad inistrator Password and pre the Enter key.
3. The pa word dialog box will be di played. Type the pa word then pre the Enter key.
4. Re-type the pa word to confirm, then pre the Enter key. If you typed the pa word correctly, the
pa word will be in talled.
To change an Admini trator Pa word, do the following:
1. Start the Lenovo BIOS Setup Utility program ( ee “Starting the Lenovo BIOS Setup Utility program” on
page 13).
2. From the Security menu, elect Set Ad inistrator Password and pre the Enter key.
3. The pa word dialog box will be di played. Type the current pa word then pre the Enter key.
4. Type the new pa word, then pre the Enter key. Re-type the pa word to confirm the new pa word.
If you typed the new pa word correctly, the new pa word will be in talled. A Setup Noticed confirming
that change have been aved will be di played.
To delete a previou ly et Admini trator Pa word, do the following :
1. From the Security menu, elect Set Ad inistrator Password and pre the Enter key.
2. The pa word dialog box will be di played. Type the current pa word and pre the Enter key.
3. To delete an Ad inistrator Password, leave each new pa word line item blank, then pre the Enter
key. A Setup Notice confirming that change have been aved will be di played.
4. Return to the Lenovo BIOS Setup Utility program menu and elect the Exit option.
5. Select Save changes and Exit from the menu.
Power-On Password
When a Power-On Pa word i et, you cannot tart the Lenovo BIOS Setup Utility program until a valid
pa word i typed from the keyboard.
