This information can help ou safel use our notebook computer. Follow and retain all information included
with our computer. The information in this document does not alter the terms of our purchase agreement
or the Limited Warrant . For more information, see "Warrant Information" in the Safety, Warranty, and Setup
Guide that comes with our computer.
Customer safet is important. Our products are developed to be safe and effective. However, personal
computers are electronic devices. Power cords, power adapters, and other features can create potential
safet risks that can result in ph sical injur or propert damage, especiall if misused. To reduce these risks,
follow the instructions included with our product, observe all warnings on the product and in the operating
instructions, and review the information included in this document carefull . B carefull following the
information contained in this document and provided with our product, ou can help protect ourself from
hazards and create a safer computer work environment.
Note: This information includes references to power adapters and batteries. In addition to notebook
computers, some products (such as speakers and monitors) ship with external power adapters. If ou have
such a product, this information applies to our product. In addition, computer products contain a coin-sized
internal batter that provides power to the s stem clock even when the computer is unplugged, so the
batter safet information applies to all computer products.
I portant infor ation about using your co puter
Ensure that ou follow the important tips given here to get the most use and enjo ment out of our computer.
Failure to do so might lead to discomfort or injur , or cause the computer to fail.
Protect yourself fro the heat that your co puter generates.
When our computer is turned on or the batter is charging, the base, the palm
rest, and some other parts ma become hot. The temperature the reach
depends on the amount of s stem activit and the level of charge in the
batter .
Extended contact with our bod , even through clothing, could cause
discomfort or even a skin burn.
• Avoid keeping our hands, our lap, or an other part of our bod in
contact with a hot section of the computer for an extended time.
• Periodicall take hands from using the ke board b lifting our hands from
the palm rest.

Protect yourself fro the heat generated by the ac power adapter.
When the ac power adapter is connected to an electrical outlet and our
computer, it generates heat.
Extended contact with our bod , even through clothing, ma cause a skin
burn.
• Do not place the ac power adapter in contact with an part of our bod
while it is in use.
• Never use it to warm our bod .
Prevent your co puter fro getting wet.
To avoid spills and the danger of electrical shock, keep liquids awa from our
computer.
Protect the cables fro being da aged.
Appl ing strong force to cables ma damage or break them.
Route communication lines, or the cables of an ac power adapter, a mouse, a
ke board, a printer, or an other electronic device, so that the cannot be
walked on, tripped over, pinched b our computer or other objects, or in an
wa subject to treatment that could interfere with the operation of our
computer.
Protect your co puter and data when oving it.
Before moving a computer equipped with a hard disk drive, do one of the
following:
• Turn it off.
• Put it in sleep mode.
• Put it in hibernation mode.
This helps to prevent damage to the computer, and possible loss of data.

Handle your co puter gently.
Do not drop, bump, scratch, twist, hit, vibrate, push, or place heav objects on
our computer, displa , or external devices.
Carry your co puter carefully.
• Use a qualit carr ing case that provides adequate cushioning and protection.
• Do not pack our computer in a tightl packed suitcase or bag.
• Before putting our computer in a carr ing case, make sure that it is off, in sleep
mode, or in hibernation mode. Do not put a computer in a carr ing case while it is
turned on.
Conditions that require i ediate action
Products can beco e da aged due to isuse or neglect. So e product da age is serious enough
that the product should not be used again until it has been inspected and, if necessary, repaired by an
authorized servicer.
As with any electronic device, pay close attention to the product when it is turned on. On very rare
occasions, you ight notice an odor or see a puff of s oke or sparks vent fro your product. Or you
ight hear sounds like popping, cracking, or hissing. These conditions ight erely ean that an
internal electronic co ponent has failed in a safe and controlled anner. Or, they ight indicate a
potential safety issue. However, do not take risks or atte pt to diagnose the situation yourself.

Frequently inspect your co puter and its co ponents for da age or wear or signs of danger. If you
have any question about the condition of a co ponent, do not use the product. Contact the Custo er
Support Center or the product anufacturer for instructions on how to inspect the product and have it
repaired, if necessary.
In the unlikely event that you notice any of the following conditions, or if you have any safety concerns
with your product, stop using the product and unplug it fro the power source and
teleco unication lines until you can speak to the Custo er Support Center for further guidance.

• Power cords, plugs, power adapters, extension cords, surge protectors, or power supplies that are
cracked, broken, or damaged.
• Signs of overheating, smoke, sparks, or fire.
• Damage to a batter (such as cracks, dents, or creases), discharge from a batter , or a buildup of foreign
substances on the batter .
• A cracking, hissing, or popping sound, or strong odor that comes from the product.
• Signs that liquid has been spilled or an object has fallen onto the computer product, the power cord, or
power adapter.
• The computer product, power cord, or power adapter has been exposed to water.
• The product has been dropped or damaged in an wa .
• The product does not operate normall when ou follow the operating instructions.
Note: If ou notice these conditions with a product (such as an extension cord) that is not manufactured for
or b Lenovo®, stop using that product until ou can contact the product manufacturer for further
instructions, or until ou get a suitable replacement.
Service and upgrades
Do not attempt to service a product ourself unless instructed to do so b the Customer Support Center or
our documentation. Onl use a Service Provider who is approved to repair our particular product.
Note: Some computer parts can be upgraded or replaced b the customer. Upgrades t picall are referred
to as options. Replacement parts approved for customer installation are referred to as Customer
Replaceable Units, or CRUs. Lenovo provides documentation with instructions when it is appropriate for
customers to install options or replace CRUs. You must closel follow all instructions when installing or
replacing parts. The Off state of a power indicator does not necessaril mean that voltage levels inside a
product are zero. Before ou remove the covers from a product equipped with a power cord, alwa s make
sure that the power is turned off and that the product is unplugged from an power source. If ou have an
questions or concerns, contact the Customer Support Center.
Although there are no moving parts in our computer after the power cord has been disconnected, the
following warnings are required for our safet .
CAUTION:
Hazardous oving parts. Keep fingers and other body parts away.
CAUTION:
Before you open the co puter cover, turn off the co puter and wait several inutes until the
co puter is cool.
