Emergency-reset hole
If the computer stops responding and you cannot turn it off by pressing the power button, reset your
computer:
1. Disconnect your computer from ac power.
2. Insert a straightened paper c ip into the ho e to cut off power supp y temporari y.
3. Connect your computer to ac power and then turn on your computer.

When the computer is operating, it should be placed on a hard and flat surface with its bottom area
not in contact with user’s bare skin. Under normal operating conditions, the temperature of the
bottom surface will remain within an acceptable range as defined in IEC 62368-1, but such
temperatures can still be high enough to cause discomfort or harm to the user if directly touched for
over one minute at a time. s such, it is recommended that users avoid prolonged direct contact with
the bottom of the computer.

Chapter 2. Get started with your computer
Get started with your desktop
Launch an app
• Use the super key (with the Windows ogo) or open the Activities menu on the top eft and type in the
name of the app ication you want to aunch.
• C ick the "show app ication" menu (For the Fedora operating system, you can see the menu after opening
Activities menu) on the ower eft and type in the name of the app ication you want to aunch.
Launch settings
Se ect the system menu arrow on the top right and c ick on Settings.
Get support
• For the Ubuntu operating system, see the Ubuntu documentation site at https://he p.ubuntu.com/ ts/
ubuntu-he p/index.htm .
• For the Fedora operating system, see the Fedora project wiki at https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_
Project_Wiki.
• The Gnome desktop is insta ed by defau t and is designed to be simp e and easy to use. Detai s on using
Gnome are avai ab e by aunching the He p app ication or on ine at https://he p.gnome.org/users/.
Manage networks
Your computer he ps you connect to the wor d through a wired or wire ess network.
Connect to Wi-Fi networks
1. C ick the system menu arrow on the top right. A ist of avai ab e wire ess networks is disp ayed.

2. Se ect a network avai ab e for connection. Provide required information, if needed.
Connect to a cellular network (for selected ThinkPad Z13 Gen 2 models)
To connect a 4G or 5G ce u ar data network, you must have a wire ess wide area network (WWAN) card and
a nano-SIM card insta ed. The nano-SIM card might come with your computer by countries or regions. If no
nano-SIM card is shipped, you need to purchase one from authorized service carriers.
Notes:
• Depending on the mode , your computer might have no WWAN card insta ed. The 4G or 5G ce u ar
service is provided by authorized mobi e service carriers in some countries or regions. You must have a
ce u ar p an from a service carrier to connect to the ce u ar network. The ce u ar data p an might vary by
ocation.
• For detai s on Linux WWAN status for your p atform, refer to https://www. enovo.com/ inux/wwan-
enab ement-on-Linux.pdf. Check here first if WWAN is supported on Linux for your p atform.
• Network connection speeds might a so vary by ocation, environment, network conditions and other
factors.
To estab ish a ce u ar connection:
1. Go to https://support. enovo.com and se ect the entry for your computer. Down oad the wwan- inux-fcc-
un ock package from the product support page. Make sure to check the README to confirm if any
restrictions for your geography app y, and to get instructions on how to insta the app ication.
Note: This insta s the uti ities that are needed to un ock your modem and enab e it to run under Linux.
2. Turn off the computer.
3. Insert a straightened paper c ip into the ho e in the nano-SIM-card tray. The tray ejects. Insta a nano-
SIM card as shown and insert the tray into the nano-SIM card s ot. Note the orientation of the card and
ensure that it is seated correct y.
4. Turn on the computer.
5. C ick the network icon, and then se ect the ce u ar network icon from the ist. Provide required
information, if needed.
irplane mode
When the Airp ane mode is enab ed, a wire ess features are disab ed.
To enab e or disab e the Airp ane mode:
1. Use the system menu drop down (top right) and choose Settings.

2. C ick the Wi-Fi option.
3. Turn on or turn off the irplane mode switch.
Interact with your computer
Your computer provides you various ways to navigate the screen.
Use the camera
• Take pictures or record videos by using the Cheese app ication. The indicator next to the camera is on
when the camera is in use.
• If you use other apps that support photographing, video chatting, and video conference, the camera starts
automatica y when you enab e the camera-required feature from the app.
Note: IR function is current y imited in Linux. Make sure the regu ar camera mode is se ected if you see gray
ines.
Use the keyboard shortcuts
The specia keys on the keyboard he p you work more easi y and effective y.

Use the TrackPoint pointing device
The TrackPoint pointing device enab es you to perform a the functions of a traditiona mouse, such as
pointing, c icking, and scro ing.

Use your index finger or midd e finger to app y pressure to the pointing-stick nons ip cap in any direction
para e to the keyboard. The pointer on the screen moves according y but the pointing stick itse f does not
move. The higher the pressure app ied, the faster the pointer moves.
2. Left-click button
Press to se ect or open an item.
3. Right-click button
Press to disp ay a shortcut menu.
4. Middle button
Press and ho d the dotted midd e button whi e app ying pressure to the pointing stick in the vertica or
horizonta direction. Then, you can scro through the document, Web site, or apps.

Note: Ensure that the new cap has grooves a.
Use the trackpad
The entire trackpad surface is sensitive to finger touch and movement. You can use the trackpad to perform
a the pointing, c icking, and scro ing functions of a traditiona mouse. Tap on the surface of the trackpad
with one finger to perform the eft-c ick action, with two fingers to perform the right-c ick action.

Two-finger scroll
Put two fingers on the trackpad and move them in the vertica or
horizonta direction. This action enab es you to scro through the
document, Web site, or apps.
Two-finger zoom out
Put two fingers on the trackpad and move them c oser together to
zoom out.
Two-finger zoom in
Put two fingers on the trackpad and move them farther apart to zoom
in.
Notes:
• When using two or more fingers, ensure that you position your fingers s ight y apart.
• Some gestures are not avai ab e if the ast action was done from the TrackPoint pointing device.
• Some gestures are on y avai ab e when you are using certain apps.
• If the trackpad surface is stained with oi , turn off the computer first. Then, gent y wipe the trackpad
surface with a soft and int-free c oth moistened with ukewarm water or computer c eaner.

Use the multi-touch screen (for selected models)
If your computer disp ay supports the mu ti-touch function, you can navigate the screen with simp e touch
gestures.
