IfyourThinkPadcomputersupportsthewirelessWideAreaNetwork(WAN)adapter,youcaninstallthe
wirelessWANadapterintoaPeripheralComponentInterconnect(PCI)ExpressM.2cardslotinyour
computer.Withthisadapter,yourcomputercanestablishwirelessWANconnections.
Note:BeforeestablishingwirelessWANconnections,ensurethataSubscriberIdentificationModule(SIM)
cardisinstalledonyourcomputer.

ThischapterprovidesinformationaboutinstallingthewirelessWANadapterintoyourcomputerandusing
itontheMicrosoft®Windows®operatingsystem.
Beforeyoustart
BeforeinstallingthewirelessWANadapter,carefullyreadthefollowinginformation.
DANGER
Duringelectricalstorms,donotconnectthecabletoordisconnectitfromthetelephoneoutlet
ontheall.
DANGER
Electriccurrentfrompoer,telephone,andcommunicationcablesishazardous.Toavoidshock
hazard,disconnectthecablesbeforeopeningthecoverofthePCIExpressM.2cardslot.
Attention:ThewirelessWANadapterisshippedinastatic-protectivebag.Whenhandling,takethe
followingprecautionstoavoidstatic-electricitydamagetothewirelessWANadapter:
•Donotopenthestatic-protectivebaguntilyouarereadytoinstallthewirelessWANadapter.
•BeforeremovingthewirelessWANadapterfromthestatic-protectivebag,touchthebagtoametaltable
oragroundedmetalobject.Thisactionreducesstaticelectricityinthebagandyourbody.

1.DownloadandinstallthedevicedriverforthewirelessWANadapterbydoingoneofthefollowing:
•Gotohttp:www.lenovo.comsupport.Thenfollowtheinstructionsonthescreentodownload
andinstallthedevicedriver.
•UsetheSystemUpdateprogram:
a.ClickStartandsearchSystemUpdateinthesearchbox.
b.LaunchSystemUpdateonthescreen.
c.ClickGetneupdates.
d.SelectthenameofthewirelessWANadapter.Thenfollowtheinstructionsonthescreento
downloadandinstallthedevicedriver.
2.LaunchtheLenovoMobileBroadbandActivation(LMBA)programtoactivatethewirelessWANadapter.
AnaccountwithamobilebroadbandServiceProviderisrequired.

1.DownloadandinstallthedevicedriverforthewirelessWANadapterbydoingoneofthefollowing:
•Gotohttp:www.lenovo.comsupport.Thenfollowtheinstructionsonthescreentodownload
andinstallthedevicedriver.
•UsetheSystemUpdateprogram:
a.FromtheStartscreen,clickthearrowiconinthebottom-leftcornertogototheAppsscreen.
b.LaunchSystemUpdateontheAppsscreen.
c.ClickGetneupdates.
d.SelectthenameofthewirelessWANadapter.Thenfollowtheinstructionsonthescreento
downloadandinstallthedevicedriver.
2.EstablishyourwirelessWANconnectiontoconnectthecomputertothemobilebroadband(cellular)
network.Formoreinformationaboutthemobilebroadbandconnection,refertotheWindowshelp
informationsystem.
ForWindos10:
1.DownloadandinstallthedevicedriverforthewirelessWANadapterbydoingoneofthefollowing:
•Gotohttp:www.lenovo.comsupport.Thenfollowtheinstructionsonthescreentodownload
andinstallthedevicedriver.
•UsetheSystemUpdateprogram:
a.Fromthedesktop,searchLenovoCompanioninthesearchboxonthetaskbar.
b.LaunchLenovoCompaniononthescreen.
c.ClickSYSTEMUPDATEandclickCheckforneupdates.
d.SelectthenameofthewirelessWANadapter.Thenfollowtheinstructionsonthescreento
downloadandinstallthedevicedriver.
2.EstablishyourwirelessWANconnectiontoconnectthecomputertothemobilebroadband(cellular)
network.Formoreinformationaboutthemobilebroadbandconnection,refertotheWindowshelp
informationsystem.

Chapter3.Troubleshooting
IfyouexperiencethefollowingproblemwiththewirelessWANadapter,trythesolutionprovidedtosolve
theproblem.
Problem:IhavecorrectlyinstalledthewirelessWANadapteronmycomputer,butthecomputerfailsto
recognizethewirelessWANadapter.
Solution:ResettheUnifiedExtensibleFirmwareInterface(UEFI)basicinputoutputsystem(BIOS)
configurationofyourcomputertothedefaultsettingsbydoingthefollowing:
1.Turnonthecomputer.
2.WhentheThinkPadlogoisdisplayed,pressF1toentertheBIOS.
3.PressF9,andthenselectYestoloadthedefaultconfiguration.
4.PressF10tosavetheconfigurationchangesandexit.TheSetupConfirmationwindowopens.
5.SelectYesintheSetupConfirmationwindow.Thecomputerrestarts.
Note:Afterthecomputerrestarts,theBIOSchangesareautomaticallysaved.Thereisnoneedtoreset
theBIOSconfigurationagainthenexttimeyoustartyourcomputer.
