Theserversetupprocedurevariesdependingontheconfigurationotheserverwhenitwasdelivered.In

Turningontheserver
Theservercanbeturnedoninoneotheollowingways:
•Ateryoufinishunpackingandsettinguptheserver,connectittoanacpowersource.Pressthepower
buttonontherontpaneltoturnontheserver.See“Frontpanel”onpage12.Theserverneedsabout90
secondsortheThinkServerManagementModule(TMM,alsoknownasBMC)toinitializewheneveryou
connecttheservertoanacpowersource.Iyoupressthepowerbuttonontherontpanelduringthis
period,theserverwillnotstartimmediately;itwillstartatertheTMMinitializationfinishes.

Turningofftheserver
AUTION:
Thepowercontrolbuttononthedeviceandthepowerbuttononthepowersupplydonotturnoff
theelectricalcurrentsuppliedtothedevice.Thedevicealsomighthavemorethanonepower
cord.T oremoveallelectricalcurrentfromthedevice,ensurethatallpowercordsaredisconnected
fromthepowersource.
Theservercanbeturnedoinoneotheollowingways:
•Turnotheserverromtheoperatingsystemiyouroperatingsystemsupportsthiseature.Ateran
orderlyshutdownotheoperatingsystem,theserverwillturnoautomatically.Forinstructionsonhow
toshutdownyourspecificoperatingsystem,reertotherelateddocumentationorhelpsystemor
theoperatingsystem.
•Pressthepowerbuttonontherontpaneltostartanorderlyshutdownotheoperatingsystemandturn
otheserver,iyouroperatingsystemsupportsthiseature.
•Iyourserverstopsrespondingandyoucannotturnito,pressandholdthepowerbuttononthe
rontpaneloroursecondsormore.Iyoustillcannotturnotheserver,disconnectallpowercords
romtheserver.
•YoualsocanusetherelatedTMMeaturetoremotelyturnotheserverthroughthemanagementLAN.
•Theservermightbeturnedoasanautomaticresponsetoacriticalsystemailure.
Notes:
•Whenyouturnotheserverandleaveitconnectedtoanacpowersource,theserveralsocanrespond
toaremoterequesttoturnontheserver.Toremoveallpowerromtheserver,youmustdisconnect
theserverromtheacpowersource.
