Chapter 1. Abo t the graphics card
This chapter provides product in ormation about the ThinkStation®NVS 315 Graphics Card (herea ter
called the graphics card).
Prod ct description
The graphics card is aPeripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) Express, low-profile orm actor graphics
card with afitted ull-height bracket. The graphics card o ers 1GB o double-data-rate three (DDR3)
memory and supports attachment up to two monitors simultaneously. The graphics card has one DMS-59
connector on it. You can attach digital monitors to acomputer that has the graphics card installed, using the
provided DMS-59 to dual-link DVI-I adapter or the DMS-59 to dual-link DisplayPort adapter. The maximum
resolution or DVI-I monitors is 1920 x1200 pixels and the maximum resolution or DisplayPort monitors
is 2560 x1600 pixels.

Chapter 2. Using the graphics card
This chapter contains instructions or installing the graphics card. It also includes instructions or installing
and uninstalling the device driver.
Before yo begin
Be ore you install the graphics card, take the ollowing precautions to prevent static electricity rom
damaging electronic parts:
• Be ore touching any electronic parts, drain the static electricity rom your body. You can do this by
touching the metal rame o your computer.
• Do not remove the graphics card rom the antistatic shipping container until you are ready to install it.
When you remove the graphics card rom your computer, place it in its original container.
• When handling the graphics card, hold it by its edges, and avoid touching its circuitry.
Note: Check the appropriate support Web sites or the latest updates or your basic input/output system
(BIOS) code, utility programs, device drivers, and other so tware applications. Follow the instructions
provided by your Service Provider to download and install updates.

Installing the graphics card
This topic provides instructions on how to install the graphics card in your computer.
To install the graphics card, do the ollowing:
1. Prepare your computer or graphics card installation by doing the ollowing:
a. Turn o all attached devices and then turn o the computer.
b. Unplug all cords and power cables rom the computer and all attached devices.
c. Remove the computer cover. For instructions about how to remove the cover, re er to the user
guide that comes with your computer.
2. Choose aPCI Express x16 expansion slot.
3. Remove the expansion slot cover or the selected expansion slot. Save the screw i there is one to use
with the mounting bracket o the graphics card.
Attention: Inserting agraphics card into an incorrect type o expansion slot might damage your card,
your computer, or both. To identi y the location o each type o expansion slot in your computer, re er to
the user guide that comes with your computer.
4. Position the graphics card over the selected expansion slot. Firmly and evenly push the graphics
card in until it is ully seated in the slot.
Notes:
• Depending on the size o the chassis in which you want to install the graphics card, you might need
to replace the low-profile bracket on the graphics card with the provided ull-height bracket.
• Do not insert the plastic tab next to the connector pins into the expansion slot.
• I the graphics card has an auxiliary power connector, attach it to the system power supply.

5. Tighten the screw i necessary to secure the mounting bracket o the graphics card in place.
6. Reinstall the computer cover.
7. Reattach the cords, power cables, and external devices to the computer.
Installing the device driver on Windows operating systems
This topic provides instructions on how to install the device driver on Windows operating systems.
To install the device driver on the Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 8.1 operating system, do the ollowing:
Note: I agraphics card driver is installed on your computer, uninstall the graphics card driver be ore
installing anew one.
1. Save any open documents and exit all applications.
2. Insert the Software and User Guide Disc into the optical drive. The disc starts automatically. I the disc
does not start automatically, do one o the ollowing:
• I the autoplay window opens, click R n ViewHtml.exe.
• I the autoplay window does not open, do one o the ollowing:
– For the Windows 7operating system, go into Comp ter,then double-click the CD/DVD drive icon.
– For the Windows 8or Windows 8.1 operating system, open File Explorer and click Comp ter or
This PC,then double-click the CD/DVD drive icon.
3. Select your language.
4. Click Software in the le t pane o the window.
5. Follow the instructions on the screen to install the device driver.
6. Restart your computer i necessary.
Uninstalling the device driver from Windows operating systems
This topic provides instructions on how to uninstall the device driver rom Windows operating systems.
To uninstall the device driver rom the Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 8.1 operating system, do the
ollowing:
For the Windows 7operating system:
1. Click Start ➙Control Panel or Start ➙Settings ➙Control Panel.
2. Depending on your Control Panel mode, do one o the ollowing:
• Click the Uninstall aprogram option under the Programs menu.
• Click Programs and Feat res.
3. Select the graphics card driver rom the program list and then right-click your mouse. The Uninstall
option is displayed.
4. Click Uninstall.
5. Follow the instructions on the screen to uninstall the device driver.
6. Restart your computer i necessary.
For the Windows 8operating system:
1. Go to Control Panel by doing one o the ollowing:

• From the desktop, move the pointer to the top-right or bottom-right corner o the screen to display
the charms, and then click Settings ➙Control Panel.
•From the Start screen, do the ollowing:
a. Move the pointer to the top-right or bottom-right corner o the screen to display the charms.
b. Click Search.
c. On the Apps screen, scroll to the right side, and click Control Panel in the Windows System
section.
2. Depending on your Control Panel mode, do one o the ollowing:
•Click the Uninstall aprogram option under the Programs menu.
•Click Programs and Feat res.
3. Select the graphics card driver rom the program list and then right-click your mouse. The Uninstall
option is displayed.
4. Click Uninstall.
5. Follow the instructions on the screen to uninstall the device driver.
6. Restart your computer i necessary.
For the Windows 8.1 operating system:
1. Go to Control Panel by doing one o the ollowing:
• From the desktop, move the pointer to the top-right or bottom-right corner o the screen to display
the charms, and then click Settings ➙Control Panel.
•From the Start screen, do the ollowing:
a. Click the arrow icon in the bottom-le t corner o the screen to go to the Apps screen.
b. Scroll to the right side, and click Control Panel in the Windows System section.
2. Depending on your Control Panel mode, do one o the ollowing:
•Click the Uninstall aprogram option under the Programs menu.
•Click Programs and Feat res.
3. Select the graphics card driver rom the program list and then right-click your mouse. The Uninstall
option is displayed.
4. Click Uninstall.
5. Follow the instructions on the screen to uninstall the device driver.
6. Restart your computer i necessary.

which it is installed. For many Lenovo computers, this can entitle the Lenovo option or warranty service
up to three years.

Installation and configuration support through the Customer Support Center will be available until 90 days
a ter the option has been withdrawn rom marketing. A ter that time, the support is cancelled, or made

Part 1- General Terms
This Lenovo Limited Warranty applies only to Lenovo hardware products you purchased or your own use and
not or resale. This Lenovo Limited Warranty is available in other languages at www.lenovo.com/warranty.
What this Warranty Covers
Lenovo warrants that each Lenovo hardware product that you purchase is ree rom de ects in materials and
workmanship under normal use during the warranty period. The warranty period or the product starts on
the original date o purchase as shown on your sales receipt or invoice or as may be otherwise specified
by Lenovo. The warranty period and type o warranty service that apply to your product are as specified
in “Part 3- Warranty Service Information”below. This warranty only applies to products in the country
or region o purchase.
THIS WARRANTY IS YOUR EXCLUSIVE WARRANTY AND REPLACES ALL OTHER WARRANTIES
OR CONDITIONS, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, ANY IMPLIED
WARRANTIES OR CONDITIONS OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR APARTICULAR PURPOSE.
AS SOME STATES OR JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OF EXPRESS OR
IMPLIED WARRANTIES, THE ABOVE EXCLUSION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU. IN THAT EVENT, SUCH
WARRANTIES APPLY ONLY TO THE EXTENT AND FOR SUCH DURATION AS REQUIRED BY LAW AND

How to Obtain Warranty Service
I the product does not unction as warranted during the warranty period, you may obtain warranty service by
contacting Lenovo or aLenovo approved Service Provider. Alist o approved Service Providers and their
telephone numbers is available at: www.lenovo.com/support/phone.
Warranty service may not be available in all locations and may di er rom location to location. Charges may
apply outside aService Provider’s normal service area. Contact alocal Service Provider or in ormation
specific to your location.
C stomer Responsibilities for Warranty Service
Be ore warranty service is provided, you must take the ollowing steps:
•ollow the service request procedures specified by the Service Provider;

• backup or secure all programs and data contained in the product;
• provide the Service Provider with all system keys or passwords;
• provide the Service Provider with su ficient, ree, and sa e access to your acilities to per orm service;
• remove all data, including confidential in ormation, proprietary in ormation and personal in ormation, rom
the product or, i you are unable to remove any such in ormation, modi y the in ormation to prevent its
access by another party or so that it is not personal data under applicable law. The Service Provider shall
not be responsible or the loss or disclosure o any data, including confidential in ormation, proprietary
in ormation, or personal in ormation, on aproduct returned or accessed or warranty service;
• remove all eatures, parts, options, alterations, and attachments not covered by the warranty;
• ensure that the product or part is ree o any legal restrictions that prevent its replacement;
• i you are not the owner o aproduct or part, obtain authorization rom the owner or the Service Provider
to provide warranty service.
What Yo r Service Provider Will Do to Correct Problems
When you contact aService Provider, you must ollow the specified problem determination and resolution
procedures.
The Service Provider will attempt to diagnose and resolve your problem by telephone, e-mail or remote
assistance. The Service Provider may direct you to download and install designated so tware updates.
Some problems may be resolved with areplacement part that you install yoursel called a“Customer
Replaceable Unit” or “CRU.” I so, the Service Provider will ship the CRU to you or you to install.
I your problem cannot be resolved over the telephone; through the application o so tware updates or
the installation o aCRU, the Service Provider will arrange or service under the type o warranty service
designated or the product under “Part 3- Warranty Service Information”below.
I the Service Provider determines that it is unable to repair your product, the Service Provider will replace
it with one that is at least unctionally equivalent.
I the Service Provider determines that it is unable to either repair or replace your product, your sole
remedy under this Limited Warranty is to return the product to your place o purchase or to Lenovo or a
re und o your purchase price.
Replacement Prod cts and Parts
When warranty service involves the replacement o aproduct or part, the replaced product or part becomes
Lenovo’s property and the replacement product or part becomes your property. Only unaltered Lenovo
products and parts are eligible or replacement. The replacement product or part provided by Lenovo may
not be new, but it will be in good working order and at least unctionally equivalent to the original product or
part. The replacement product or part shall be warranted or the balance o the period remaining on the
original product.
Use of Personal Contact Information
I you obtain service under this warranty, you authorize Lenovo to store, use and process in ormation about
your warranty service and your contact in ormation, including name, phone numbers, address, and e-mail
address. Lenovo may use this in ormation to per orm service under this warranty. We may contact you to
inquire about your satis action with our warranty service or to noti y you about any product recalls or sa ety
issues. In accomplishing these purposes, you authorize Lenovo to trans er your in ormation to any country
where we do business and to provide it to entities acting on our behal . We may also disclose it where
required by law. Lenovo’s privacy policy is available at www.lenovo.com/.

What this Warranty Does not Cover
This warranty does not cover the ollowing:
• uninterrupted or error- ree operation o aproduct;
• loss o , or damage to, your data by aproduct;
• any so tware programs, whether provided with the product or installed subsequently;
• ailure or damage resulting rom misuse, abuse, accident, modification, unsuitable physical or operating
environment, natural disasters, power surges, improper maintenance, or use not in accordance with
product in ormation materials;
• damage caused by anon-authorized service provider;
• ailure o , or damage caused by, any third party products, including those that Lenovo may provide or
integrate into the Lenovo product at your request;
• any technical or other support, such as assistance with “how-to” questions and those regarding product
set-up and installation;
• products or parts with an altered identification label or rom which the identification label has been
removed.
Limitation of Liability
Lenovo is responsible or loss or damage to your product only while it is in the Service Provider’s possession
or in transit, i the Service Provider is responsible or the transportation.
Neither Lenovo nor the Service Provider is responsible or loss or disclosure o any data, including
confidential in ormation, proprietary in ormation, or personal in ormation, contained in aproduct.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES, AND NOTWITHSTANDING THE FAILURE OF ESSENTIAL PURPOSE
OF ANY REMEDY SET FORTH HEREIN, SHALL LENOVO, ITS AFFILIATES, SUPPLIERS, RESELLERS,
OR SERVICE PROVIDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY OF THE FOLLOWING EVEN IF INFORMED OF THEIR
POSSIBILITY AND REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE CLAIM IS BASED IN CONTRACT, WARRANTY,
NEGLIGENCE, STRICT LIABILITY OR OTHER THEORY OF LIABILITY: 1) THIRD PARTY CLAIMS

covered de ect during the warranty period, Lenovo will provide you aremedy under this Limited Warranty.
The warranty period or the product starts on the original date o purchase specified on your sales receipt or
invoice unless Lenovo in orms you otherwise in writing. The warranty period and type o warranty service
that apply to your product are set orth below in Part 3- Warranty Service Information.
THE BENEFITS GIVEN BY THIS WARRANTY ARE IN ADDITION TO YOUR RIGHTS AND REMEDIES AT

Replacement Prod cts and Parts:
When warranty service involves the replacement o aproduct or part, the replaced product or part becomes
Lenovo’s property and the replacement product or part becomes your property. Only unaltered Lenovo
products and parts are eligible or replacement. The replacement product or part provided by Lenovo may
not be new, but it will be in good working order and at least unctionally equivalent to the original product or
part. The replacement product or part shall be warranted or the balance o the period remaining on the
original product. Products and parts presented or repair may be replaced by re urbished products or parts
o the same type rather than being repaired. Re urbished parts may be used to repair the product; and repair
o the product may result in loss o data, i the product is capable o retaining user-generated data.

Lenovo will not be able to per orm our service under this warranty i you re use to provide your in ormation
or do not wish us to trans er your in ormation to our agent or contractor. You have the right to access

Disputes arising out o or in connection with this warranty shall be finally settled by arbitration held in
Singapore. This warranty shall be governed, construed and en orced in accordance with the laws o
Singapore, without regard to conflict o laws. I you acquired the product in India,disputes arising out o or
in connection with this warranty shall be finally settled by arbitration held in Bangalore, India. Arbitration
in Singapore shall be held in accordance with the Arbitration Rules o Singapore International Arbitration
Center (“SIAC Rules”) then in e ect. Arbitration in India shall be held in accordance with the laws o India
then in e ect. The arbitration award shall be final and binding on the parties without appeal. Any award
shall be in writing and set orth the findings o act and the conclusions o law. All arbitration proceedings,
including all documents presented in such proceedings shall be conducted in the English language. The
English language version o this warranty prevails over any other language version in such proceedings.

I required, your Service Provider will provide repair or exchange service depending on the type o warranty
service specified or your product and the available service. Scheduling o service will depend upon the time
o your call, parts availability, and other actors.
Types of Warranty Service
1. C stomer Replaceable Unit (“CRU”) Service
Under CRU Service, the Service Provider will ship CRUs to you at its cost or installation by you. CRU
in ormation and replacement instructions are shipped with your product and are available rom Lenovo at any
time upon request. CRUs that are easily installed by you are called “Sel -service CRUs”. “Optional-service
CRUs” are CRUs that may require some technical skill and tools. Installation o Sel -service CRUs is your
responsibility. You may request that aService Provider install Optional-service CRUs under one o the other
types o warranty service designated or your product. An optional service o ering may be available or
purchase rom aService Provider or Lenovo under which Sel -service CRUs would be installed or you.
You may find alist o CRUs and their designation in the publication that was shipped with your product
or at www.lenovo.com/CRUs. The requirement to return ade ective CRU, i any, will be specified in the
instructions shipped with areplacement CRU. When return is required: 1) return instructions, aprepaid
return shipping label, and acontainer will be included with the replacement CRU; and 2) you may be charged
or the replacement CRU i the Service Provider does not receive the de ective CRU rom you within thirty
(30) days o your receipt o the replacement CRU.
2. On-site Service
Under On-Site Service, aService Provider will either repair or exchange the product at your location. You
must provide asuitable working area to allow disassembly and reassembly o the product. Some repairs
may need to be completed at aservice center. I so, the Service Provider will send the product to the
service center at its expense.

3. Co rier or Depot Service
Under Courier or Depot Service, your product will be repaired or exchanged at adesignated service center,
with shipping at the expense o the Service Provider. You are responsible or disconnecting the product and
packing it in ashipping container provided to you to return your product to adesignated service center.
Acourier will pick up your product and deliver it to the designated service center. The service center will
return the product to you at its expense.
4. C stomer Carry-In Service
Under Customer Carry-In Service, your product will be repaired or exchanged a ter you deliver it to a
designated service center at your risk and expense. A ter the product has been repaired or exchanged, it will
be made available to you or collection. I you ail to collect the product, the Service Provider may dispose o
the product as it sees fit, with no liability to you.
5. Mail-In Service
Under Mail-In Service, your product will be repaired or exchanged at adesignated service center a ter you
deliver it at your risk and expense. A ter the product has been repaired or exchanged, it will be returned to
you at Lenovo’s risk and expense, unless the Service Provider specifies otherwise.
6. C stomer Two-Way Mail-In Service
Under Customer Two-Way Mail-In Service, your product will be repaired or exchanged a ter you deliver it to
adesignated service center at your risk and expense. A ter the product has been repaired or exchanged,
it will be made available to you or return shipping at your risk and expense. I you ail to arrange return
shipment, the Service Provider may dispose o the product as it sees fit, with no liability to you.
7. Prod ct Exchange Service
Under Product Exchange Service, Lenovo will ship areplacement product to your location. You are
responsible or its installation and verification o its operation. The replacement product becomes your
property in exchange or the ailed product, which becomes the property o Lenovo. You must pack the
ailed product in the shipping carton in which you received the replacement product and return it to Lenovo.
Transportation charges, both ways, shall be at Lenovo’s expense. I you ail to use the carton in which the
replacement product was received, you may be responsible or any damage to the ailed product occurring
during shipment. You may be charged or the replacement product i Lenovo does not receive the ailed
product within thirty (30) days o your receipt o the replacement product.

operado de acuerdo con el instructivo de uso que se le acompaña. c) Cuando el producto hubiese sido
alterado oreparado por personas no autorizadas por el abricante nacional, importador ocomercializador

Todos los programas de so tware precargados en el equipo sólo tendrán una garantía de treinta (30) días por
de ectos de instalación desde la echa de compra. Lenovo no es responsable de la in ormación incluida
