VOICE COMMAND
The VX4500 by LG is enabled with speaker-independent voice recognition.This technology
makes it possible for any user to dial a number by speaking the name of a contact entered
in the phone book or by speaking the digits of a phone number. Voice command also
provides quick and easy access to other essential features and when coupled with speaker
phone and driving mode, offers true hands-free usage without additional equipment.
Activate Speaker Phone
1. From standby mode, press the Navigation Key, “Speaker Phone is set to On” will appear
on the screen.To deactivate press the key again and “Speaker Phone is set to Off”will
appear on the screen.
Voice Settings
Voice Commands
Allows you to select how voice recognition is activated.
1. From the Voice (7) menu, select Voice Settings (4).
2. Select Voice Commands (1).
3. Use the Navigation Key to select from Flip open or Side key only and press .
Announce Alerts
Automated alert notifies you by voice of incoming calls and text messages by contact name
or phone number. It also provides notification of new emails.
1. From the Voice (7) menu, select Voice Settings (4).
2. Select Announce Alerts (2).
3. Use the Navigation Key to select from On or Off and press .
Best Match
After you say a name or number, your phone displays the recognition results that best
matches the one you said and asks you to confirm.You may select the number of results that
you want your phone to display.
1. From the Voice (7) menu, select Voice Settings (4).
2. Select Best Match (3).
3. Use the Navigation Key to select from 1 Result or 4 Results and press .
Train Commands
An optional personalization feature that helps train your phone to recognize the way you
pronounce commands.
1. From the Voice (7) menu, select Voice Settings (4).
2. Select Train Commands (4).
3. Use the Navigation Key to select Training On and press .
4. Follow the screen prompts by clearly speaking the series of words shown on the screen. A
percentage bar will show your progress as the training of each word is successfully spoken.
Train Digits
An optional personalization feature that helps train your phone to recognize the way you
pronounce numbers.
1. From the Voice (7) menu, select Voice Settings (4).
2. Select Train Digits (5).
3. Use the Navigation Key to select Training On and press .
4. Follow the screen prompts by clearly speaking the series of numbers shown on the screen
into the phone. A percentage bar will show your progress as the training of each number
series is successfully spoken.

Voice Menu Functions
Start Commands
Allows you to use your voice to activate certain features of your phone.
1. Press Left Soft Key and select Voice (7) menu.
2. Select Start Commands (1).
3. You will be asked to “Please Say a Command”. Clearly speak a command from the list
(Contacts, Digit Dial, Redial, Voice Mail, Driving, Schedule or Time).
Contacts: a phone call is made by saying the name of a contact saved in your phone
book. In this function only the default number will be dialed.
Digit Dial: a phone call is made by saying a telephone number of 4, 7, 10 or 11 digits.
Redial: calls the most recently dialed number again.
Voice Mail: connects to *86 voice mail.
Driving: Activates Voice Command features for hands-free operation.
Schedule: reads out the events that you have scheduled for the current day and
enables you to add new events.
Time: announces the time and displays it on the phone.
NOTE: For voice recognition, keep surrounding area quiet and speak clearly.
NOTE: Pronounce phone numbers digit by digit. Do not say "1-800" as "one eight hundred."
Instead, say "One, eight, zero, zero."
Activate Driving Mode
Allows you to switch hands-free calling on and off during driving without the need
for a car kit.
1. From the Voice (7) menu, select Driving Mode (5).
2. Use the Navigation Key to select from Driving On or Driving Off and press .
NOTE:You may immediately activate or deactivate Driving Mode when the phone is closed
by pressing the ( ) key on the side of the phone for three seconds.
Schedule an Event
1. From the Voice (7) menu, select Voice Scheduler (2).
2. Highlight the event date using your Navigation Key and press Left Soft Key to add
a new event.
3. You may set the appropriate start and end times, content, voice memo, repeat (if any),
alarm and ringer by scrolling to the corresponding field and entering the desired
information and pressing .
4. Press Left Soft Key to Save.
Record a Voice Memo
Allows you to record up to four (4) minutes of voice memos.
1. From the Voice (7) menu, select Voice Memos (3).
2. Press Left Soft Key for New.
3. Start recording at the tone.
4. Press Left Soft Key for Done to stop recording. By default, your message will
be listed by date and time.

Phone Book Default Numbers
The first phone number saved when a Contact is created is automatically assigned as the
default number.You cannot delete or change a default number if it is the only entry in the
contact without deleting the entire contact information. Another number within the contact
can be selected as the default number, which will allow you to delete or change the original
saved number.
Changing the Default Number
1. From standby mode, press Right Soft Key for Contacts.
Contacts are displayed alphabetically.
2. Use Navigation Key to highlight the Contact entry you want to edit and press .
3. Press Left Soft Key Edit.
4. Use Navigation Key to highlight the phone number you want to set as the Default
Number and press Right Soft Key Options.
5. Select Set as Default #. A confirmation message is displayed.
Display Settings
Changing the Backlight Timer
Allows you to select the duration the backlight is on for the main display and the key pad.
1. From the Settings (9) menu, select Display (2).
2. Select Backlight (2).
3. Select either Main LCD (1), followed by Timer (1), or select Key Light Timer (2).
4. Use the Navigation Key to select an option (7 seconds,15 seconds,30 seconds,
Always on,orAlways off for Main LCD or 7 seconds,15 seconds,Always on,orAlways off
for Key Light Timer) and press .
Changing the Screen Display Image
Allows you to choose the kind of background to be displayed on the phone.
1. From the Settings (9) menu, select Display (2).
2. Select Screens (3).
3. Select Wallpaper (1), Power On (2) or Power Off (3).
4. Select from the list of default images and press to save.
5. For More images, press Right Soft Key:Default (1), Graphics (2), EMS (3).
Changing the Theme Color
Allows you to choose the color of the background screen.
1. From the Settings (9) menu, select Display (2).
2. Select Theme Colors (6).
3. Use the Navigation Key to select desired option (Default,Green,Violet or Orange)
and press .

Changing the Status LED Colors
Allows you to choose the color of the indicator.
1. From the Settings (9) menu, select Display (2).
2. Select Status LED Colors (7).
3. Use the Navigation Key to select from (Incoming Calls,New SMS Alerts,Reminders,
Roaming Calls,orBattery Low) and press .
4. Use the Navigation Key to select
from (Dynamic,Red,Green,Blue,Yellow,Magenta,Cyan,orOff) and press .
Contrast
Allows you to set the level of contrast for your LCD screen.
1. From the Settings (9) menu, select Display (2).
2. Select Contrast (8).
3. Use the Navigation Key to select from Main LCD or Front LCD and press .
4. Use the Navigation Key to adjust the contrast and press .
Changing the Fonts
Allows you to choose the color and size of your fonts.
1. From the Settings (9) menu, select Display (2).
2. Select Fonts (9).
3. Use the Navigation Key to select from Calling Digits or Text Editor and press .
4. Select Size (1), and use the Navigation Key to select from Normal or Large and press .
5. Select Color (2), and use the Navigation Key to select from (Black,Blue,Red,Green,or
Violet) and press .
Call Setup
Allows you to designate how the phone handles both incoming and outgoing calls.
Auto Retry
Allows you to set the length of time the phone waits before automatically redialing a number
when the attempted call fails.
1. From the Settings (9) menu, select Call Setup (5).
2. Select Auto Retry (1).
3. Use the Navigation Key to select from (Off,Every 10 seconds,Every 30 seconds,or
Every 60 seconds) and press .
Answer Call
Allows you to determine how to initiate an answered call.
1. From the Settings (9) menu, select Call Setup (5).
2. Select Answer Call (2).
3. Use the Navigation Key to select from (Flip Open,Any Key,orSEND Only)
and press .

Auto-Answer
Allows you to select the number of rings before the phone automatically answers a call.
1. From the Settings (9) menu, select Call Setup (5).
2. Select Auto-Answer (3).
3. Use the Navigation Key to select from (Off,After 1 ring or After 3 rings)
and press .
Note:This feature is intended for use with hands free devices, but is an independent feature
of the phone and must be manually turned on/off when connected or disconnected from
the device.
One-Touch Dial
Allows you to initiate a speed dial call by pressing and holding the speed dial digit.
1. From the Settings (9) menu, select Call Setup (5).
2. Select One-Touch Dial (4).
3. Use the Navigation Key to select from Enable or Disable and press .
Auto-Volume
Provides a better audio experience by enabling the Auto Volume feature to control the
dynamic range and volume of the sending and receiving voice across different levels of
speaker and environments.
1. From the Settings (9) menu, select Call Setup (5).
2. Select Auto Volume (6).
3. Use the Navigation Key to select from On or Off and press .
My Media Folder
Allows you to access and use a wide variety of graphics, sounds, and animations that are
stored in your phone.
Graphics
Allows you to choose the background displayed on the phone.
1. From the My Media (6) menu, select Graphics (1).
2. Use the Navigation Key to highlight your selection and press .
Music
Allows you to choose the ringtones heard for incoming calls.
1. From the My Media (6) menu, select Music (2).
2. Use the Navigation Key to highlight your selection and press .
Message Objects
Allows you to set objects to correspond with your messages.
1. From the My Media (6) menu, select Message Objects (3).
2. Select from the list either (1)Small Pictures,(2) Large Pictures,(3) My Pictures,(4)
Sounds,(5) My Melodies,(6) Animations, or (7) My Animations and press .
3. Use the Navigation Key to highlight your selection and press .
