PLANNING
• Be SAFE, eye protection should always be worn when operating power tools.
• Identify your target and your starting point.
• If working on a re rated door, consult your Local Authority Having
Jurisdiction before proceeding.
POSITION THE TEMPLATE
• Find the installation template provided
with the door lock, door closer, etc.
• Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and
position the template on the door.
• Pre-punch the printed holes on the
template.

PLACE THE TOOL ON THE DOOR FOR SURFACE PREPS
1. Once the door has been marked on only
one side, use the sighting window and
position the RiteThru over the mark.
2. Hand tighten the drill bushing screw on the
other side of the door. Let the tool rest on
the edge of the door as shown.
TRANSFERRING THE HOLES
• Insert the 3/16” transfer punch into the
Punch Bushing and mark the door.
• Relocate the RiteThru to your next hole
location and repeat.

• Once all holes have been transferred,
go back to the side that was originally
marked. Use the 3/16” pilot bit to drill
your pilot holes.
• These can be expanded to the diameter
that is needed for your application. Drill
the hole halfway on one side then nish
the thru hole from the other side. It is not
recommended to drill completely through
from one side. Do not use the RiteThru
xture’s sighting hole as a drill guide.
CORE DRILLING FROM HINGE SIDE TO LOCK SIDE
• Loosely place the RiteThru on the hinge
edge of the door. Be sure to leave 1/2”
gap between the door and the tool. The
gap is needed to allow material to exit
the door during the drilling operation.

ALIGNING THE TOOL TO HIT THE TARGET
• Once the point of entry for the raceway
has been determined, use the body of the
RiteThru to aim the extended drill bit at the
termination point of the raceway.
• Hand tighten the back screw only, closest
to the hindge edge of the door.
• Lay the drill bit on top of the RiteThru, this
will more accurately aim the tool.
• Turn the drill bushing screw until it just
makes contact with the surface of the
door. DO NOT over tighten! (ONLY hand
tighten the drill bushing screw 1/2 turn
past the point of surface contact, clock-
wise.)
• Go back to the mounting screw closest to
the hinge edge of the door, hand tighten
only. NEVER use a wrench to tighten
either of these screws!

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR DRILLING
• When using a multi-piece drill bit, your drill
motor should only be connected to the end
section of the drill bit, this section is easily
identied by it’s blunt end. It also has a
small hole drilled through. Do not chuck
the drill to the threaded sections of the
multi-piece drill bit. This will damage the
thread.
• Use the 2 Hex Wrenches provided to
tighten each drill bit section as they’re
added.
• If you are using the multi-piece drill bit,
start out with 2 sections of the bit joined
together and add sections as the raceway
depth increases.
• Connect the 3/8” drill bit to the bullet end
drill section.
• You must allow the drill bushing to do the
work.
• Guide the drill in and out of the door
repeatedly, this will allow material to be
cleared from the newly drilled hole. This
clearing must be done very frequently. If
the material is not cleared often, it can
built up and bind the drill.
• Do not reverse the drill while the
multi-sectioned bit is in the raceway.
This could unscrew sections of the drill
bit.

STORAGE AND CLEANING
The RiteThru tool is a precision tool and care must be taken to
ensure that it is kept on good working order. When not in use, it should
be properly cleaned and stored to ensure it remains in working order.
The threads of the multi-section drill pieces should always be
protected when not in use. Again, these are precision tools and care
must be taken to keep them in good working order. Before storing them
away, lightly oil the drill sections to prevent corrosion.
