Installation Instructions
1. Prior to light installation, aim the landing and taxi lights against a hangar wall and
mark the location of the beams. This will be used later to adjust the new light.
Ensure that the Boom Beam reflector is not in direct visual view of the receiving
equipment antennae for the following equipment:
GPS
ATC Transponder
DME
TCAS
2. Prior to light installation, aim the lights against a suitable target board and mark the
location of the beams. This will be used later to adjust the new lights.
3. Remove both wing tips and remove existing landing lights.
4. The ballasts will be mounted to the inside of the outboard most wing ribs using Click
Bond studs. Click Bond studs shall be installed in accordance with the CBPS-206
instructions included. Temporarily attach 3 Click Bond studs to the LSM-501-103-3
mounting guide using AN315-3R nuts. Position the mounting guide to clear existing
structure. Follow the instructions in to prepare the adhesive, mount the studs, cure
the adhesive and reapply finishes as required. Typical adhesive curing time is 2
hours. Cured adhesive is green in color. Installation is typical for LH and RH of
aircraft. See photos 1 and 2.

5. Remove mounting guide and install ballast using (3) NAS43DD3-48FC spacers, (9)
AN960-10 washers and (3) MS21042-3 nuts. Attach LSM-SCD-007-1 Ballast to
Power Wire connector and LSM-SCD-008-24W Ballast to Lamp/Starter wire
connector to ballast. Apply Dow Corning DC-4 dielectric compound (or equivalent)
to both connectors prior to installing. Installation is typical for LH and RH of aircraft.
See Figures 1 and 2.

6. Install LSM-500-395-23 reflector/lamp assembly in wing tip using existing hardware.
See Photo 3.

7. Attach Ballast to Lamp/Starter wire connector to lamp/starter and secure the wires
as shown in Photo 4 using MS3367-1-9 cable tie wraps. Reconnect strobe and any
other connections removed when tip was removed.

8. Attach original landing light power and ground wires to LSM-SCD-007-1 Ballast to
Power Wire using M7928/5-4 connectors and cover with M23053/5-106-0 shrink
tubing or equivalent. Secure wires as required to prevent any chafing using
MS3367-1-9 cable tie wraps.
9. Reinstall wing tips.
10. Perform a power on test of the lights. Verify aiming by using the setup established
in step 1. Adjust lights as required.
11. Fill out Form 337.

Maintenance Requirements –
Instructions for Continued Airworthiness
“Modification of an aircraft by this Supplemental Type Certificate obligates the aircraft
operator to include the maintenance information provided by this document in the
operator’s Aircraft Maintenance Manual and the operator’s Aircraft Scheduled Maintenance
Program.”
1. Maintenance Manual information for the Boom Beam is contained in LoPresti Speed
Merchants Installation Manual Number LSM-500-026 (this document), and should be
placed into the operators appropriate airplane Maintenance Manual.
2. Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) part numbers and other necessary part numbers
contained in the installation data package should be placed into the aircraft operators
appropriate airplane Illustrated Parts Catalog (IPC).
3. Wiring diagram information contained in this data package should be placed into the
aircraft operators appropriate airplane Wiring Diagram Manuals.
4. Scheduled Maintenance Program tasks to be added to the aircraft operators
appropriate airplane maintenance program are as follows:
 During an annual or 100-hour inspection interval, inspect the mechanical and
electrical integrity of the BOOM BEAM equipment and components.
 All fasteners must be checked for tightness and all cable ties must be checked for
the security of the wiring harnesses. Loose or broken fasteners or cable ties must
be tightened or replaced.
 The wiring harnesses must be checked for frayed or damaged insulation, broken
wires or connectors. Replace if damaged.
 The bulb/starters, ballasts and reflectors must be checked for soundness in
mechanical and electrical conditions. Cracked or broken bulb/starter, ballast, or
reflector must be replaced.
Weight and Balance Information
1.8 pounds at station 81.
Electrical Load Analysis
The new Boom Beam installation replaces the existing lamps in each wing with a ballast
and lamp assembly; a total of two assemblies.
 At 14 VDC each ballast assembly draws a maximum of 8.2 amperes at startup and
then draws 3.3 amperes at steady state, after the lamps warm up.
 At 28 VDC each ballast assembly draws a maximum of 4.1 amperes at startup and
then draws 1.65 amperes at steady state, after the lamps warm up.

Tuning the BoomBeam HID Light
The BoomBeam is shipped “tuned” for the Long Range beam pattern. This is a landing
beam pattern and is great for most pilots. The BoomBeam can also be tuned for the
Standard beam pattern. This is a great “all around” light beam pattern and is best for
aircraft that need more localized light for taxi operations.
Specifications:
Long Range: 255,000 Candela @ 12.2 degree beam angle
Standard: 114,000 Candela @ 20.2 degree beam angle
The process for tuning your light is quite simple:
1. Place the BoomBeam face down on a clean padded cloth to prevent damage to the
lens.
2. Note that the connector faces the short side of the rectangular reflector
3. Carefully remove the three screws from the back of the light assembly and remove
the lamp. Take care not to touch the lamp glass or the surface of the reflector.
4. Add the small round tuning plate (LSM-500-358-13) and the flexible gasket (3077A)
as shown below in the counter-bored seat for the lamp over the existing flexible
gasket. Add the large tuning plate (LSM-500-395-7) over the back of the reflector.
5. Re-assemble your BoomBeam light.
6. Congratulations!!! You have just converted your Long Range Boom Beam to a
Standard Boom Beam.
