Thank you for selecng the UPS-XBDM-20RHW bypass distribuon module. It is designed to work in conjuncon
with a UPS to provide protecon for connected equipment. Please read this manual before installing the UPS-
XBDM-20RHW as it provides important informaon that should be followed during installaon to allow you to
correctly set up your system for maximum safety and performance. Included is informaon on customer support
and service. If you experience a problem with the XBDM, please contact technical support.
WARNING: Incorrect installaon, operaon, and/or modicaons made to the XBDM will void the manufacturer’s

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS: (SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS)
CAUTION! Two sources of power are present in the XBDM: UPS power and Ulity power.
CAUTION! (UPS has Internal Baeries): Risk of electrical shock – Hazardous live parts inside the UPS are energized
from the baery supply even when the input AC power is disconnected.
CAUTION! (No User serviceable Parts): Risk of electrical shock, do not remove cover. No user serviceable parts
inside. Refer servicing to qualied service personnel.
WARNING! Unit intended for installaon in a controlled environment per installaon instrucons.
CAUTION! If ammable substances such as gases or fumes are present, or if the room is airght, a hazardous situ-
aon may exist in which no electrical equipment should be operated.
WARNING!
It is strongly recommended that the XBDM not be opened as components have very high voltage and
touching those components may be fatal. Only a qualied technician or authorized agent may service the
unit.
The XBDM unit’s output receptacles can carry live voltage even when not connected to an input voltage
source. The UPS has its own internal energy source.
CAUTION!
The unit has a dangerous amount of voltage. If either the UPS or BYPASS indicator is on, the unit’s outlets
may have a dangerous amount of voltage even when not plugged into the wall outlet because the baery
from the UPS may connue to supply power.
For indoor use in temperature and humidity-controlled environments only.
Not for use where explosive and/or electrically conducve airborne contaminants or dust are present
(including but not limited to coal dust, metal grinding dust, grain processing dust, etc.).
It is best to disconnect the device using the power supply cord. Ensure that the equipment is placed in a
posion near the outlet where easily accessible.
All servicing on this equipment must be carried out by qualied service personnel.
The Bypass Distribuon Module (XBDM) is intended to allow replacement of the UPS connected without
having to shut down the equipment connected to the load circuits on the XBDM. Cauon should be ob-
served as the XBDM is always supplied with power by either the UPS or UTILITY.

Environment
Ensure that all environmental concerns and requirements are met according to specicaons listed in
this document, otherwise the safety of installaon personnel cannot be guaranteed, and the unit may
malfuncon.
Ensure that you remember the following when locang the XBDM:
• Avoid extremes of temperature and humidity.
»Operang temperature: 0°C to +50°C (+32° to +122° F)
»Operang elevaon: 0 to 3000m (0-10,0000 )
»Relave humidity: 0-90%, non-condensing
»Storage temperature: 0-65° C (+32 to +149° F)
»Storage elevaon: 0 to 15,000m (0 to +50,000 )
• Provide protecon for the equipment from moisture.
• Space and venlaon requirements must be met.

Introducon
The informaon provided in this manual covers single phase hardwired 20A bypass distribuon module, its basic
funcons, operang procedures, opons available and emergency situaons. It also includes informaon on how
to ship, store, handle, and install the equipment. Only detailed requirements of the XBDM unit are described
herein, and installaon must be carried out in accordance with this manual. Refer to the associated UPS manual for
UPS operang instrucons. Electrical installaon must also carefully follow local legislaon and regulaons. Only
qualied personnel should conduct these installaons as failure to acknowledge electrical hazards could prove to
be fatal.
Product Descripon
Many dierent kinds of sensive electrical equipment can be protected by an Uninterrupble Power Supply (UPS)
including computers, workstaons, process control systems, telecommunicaons systems, sales terminals, other
crical instrumentaon, etc. The purpose of the XBDM is to provide an extra level of protecon in allowing for the
replacement of a UPS without powering down the loads connected. The XBDM can work with most single phase
topologies. It will not work with topologies that have a phase shi between input and output (like ferro of UPS
with an isolaon transformer).
Electrical interference exists in many forms, causing problems in AC power, from lightning, power company ac-
cidents and radio transmission motors, air condioners, and vending machines. Protecon of sensive electrical
equipment is vital to protect against power outages, low or high voltage condions, slow voltage uctuaons,
frequency variaons, dierenal and common-mode noise, transients, etc.
To prevent power line problems from reaching crical systems causing damage to soware, hardware, and equip-
ment malfuncons, a UPS maintains constant voltage, isolang crical load output and cleaning the ulity AC pow-
er. When the UPS fails or needs maintenance, many mes it is necessary to turn o the UPS and disconnect it from
incoming electrical circuits. With the XBDM installed between the incoming Ulity and the UPS, you can replace
the UPS and/or Baeries without dropping the load. You simply switch the XBDM from UPS power to Ulity power
and remove the UPS while the load connected to the XBDM connues to operate temporarily from Ulity power.
Bypass Distribuon Descripon
The Bypass Distribuon Module (XBDM) is designed to operate with a single-phase UPS up to 20Amps in output
capacity. The XBDM allows you to:
• Replace or upgrade the UPS without losing power to the protected equipment
• Provide surge protecon if the UPS is not present
• Provide extra surge protecon when the UPS is present

CAUTION: When the XBDM is operang in UTILITY MODE, the LOAD connected is not protected from power
outages.
2. Press the OFF BUTTON on the UPS per the UPS manufacturers’ documentaon.
3. If any oponal Extended Baery Packs or Modules are connected to the UPS, turn o the circuit breaker
on the baery pack or module (if applicable), and disconnect the cable from the baery pack or module
to the UPS.
4. Disconnect the UPS output cord from the XBDM to the UPS output receptacle.
5. Disconnect the UPS INPUT CORD from the UPS INPUT RECEPTACLE on the XBDM.
6. Remove the UPS.
To reinstall the UPS and transfer your equipment from Maintenance Bypass (AC Line operaon) to the UPS:
1. If oponal Extended Baery Packs or Modules are installed, reconnect the cable from the baery pack or
module to the UPS, and turn on the circuit breaker on the baery back or module (if applicable) per the
UPS manufacturers’ documentaon.
2. Connect the UPS output cord from the XBDM to a UPS output receptacle
3. Plug the UPS INPUT POWER CORD into the XBDM UPS INPUT RECEPTACLE.
