1.0 METHOD OF INTEGRATION
Inband signaling is used for integration. Integration is achieved via DTMF
signals passed from the Mitel SX200D to the Octel 50. Call forward to
personal greeting is achieved via DTMF signals passed from the SX200D to
the Octel 50. Message waiting indicators are set or cleared by dialing a
feature access code followed by the extension number. A hookflash
followed by the extension transfers the caller to the operator.
1.1 SUPPORTED VOICE PROCESSING MODULES
The Octel 50 is a Year 2000 (Y2K) compliant, PC based, enhanced voice
messaging product release intended to replace the Smooth Operator,
Smooth Operator Ultra Lite, Smooth Operator Lite and Cooperator product
lines.

2.0 ODERING INFORMATION
This integration supports up to 16 Octel 50 ports.
Dialogic and Brooktrout kit versions of this product are available
depending on the application.
For existing systems with greater then 16 ports please consult with your
sales representative.

requirements for identifying this item.
•When using the DIALOG/4 ™ you will need:
–One RJ-14 jack with 4-conductor line cord for every two Octel 50
ports
•If FaxMail is installed.
–One analog line per Tr112™ port.
–Two RJ-11 Jacks with 4-conductor line cord for every Brooktrout 2
port TR112™ board.
•For optional remote service pack, request up to, two analog lines for
remote service access. In addition order one RJ-11 Jacks and 2-
conductor modular telephone cords for each line.
–One for access Octel 50

4.1 DISCONNECT TYPE
Disconnect is achieved by Dial Tone detection. For proper external
disconnect supervision, Ground start or Supervised Loop start CO lines are
recommended. See sections 5.1 and 6.0.
5.0 CONFIGURING THE MITEL
Before you begin programming, it is recommended that a hard copy of the
customer database be obtained to verify existing programming.
5.1 MITEL SYSTEM PROGRAMMING
Enable System Option 21, Last Party Clear - Dial Tone.
Refer to the Programming section in the Mitel manual for information on
entering, saving, and exiting database programming.

5.4 CONFIGURING THE MITEL FOR INBAND SIGNALING
An access code must be assigned to feature 24 (Abbreviated Dial Access)
in Form 02 (Feature Access Codes). Our example assumes "7" is assigned
as the feature access code, 500 is the Call Forward Speed Dial Bin, and 600
is the Immediate Login Speed Dial Bin. The subscriber would forward the
phone to 7500 and would retrieve messages by dialing 7600. The caller
will hear ringback while the digits are sent to the Octel 50. A talk path is
not established until after the last pause has been executed.

required for call forward to personal greeting and immediate subscriber

ENHANCED INBAND SIGNALING DIAL STRINGS
When *4 is in the dial string the Mitel 200D will replace it with the
forward type access and the following reason codes:
Valid index numbers are:

2 - Forward on Busy
3 - Forward No Answer
4 - Forward Busy/No Answer
When *8 is in the dial string the Mitel 200D dials out the ANI digits if the
call originated over a trunk. If ANI digits are not allowed or not available,
then no digits are sent. When the call is internal, the extension’s access
code is dialed out.

This will send Octel 50, 8 + mailbox number.
FORM 02 - FEATURE ACCESS CODES
This form specifies the Feature Access Codes for the Feature Access Codes
can be a maximum of five digits. Generally, the codes must be unique;
they cannot match any listed directory number or other access code in the
system. To check assigned access codes, refer to Form 35, Global Find
Access Code. The system updates this form each time a code is entered
during CDE. Feature Access Codes are site dependent, and the system has
been configured to work with two or three digit access codes.

5.5 CONFIGURING THE MESSAGE WAITING LIGHTS
Assign an access code to feature 41 (Send Message). We recommend *4.
This code will be used in Octel 50 Setup to set and cancel the Message
Waiting Lights. Note: See Section 7.3
The following is an example of how the feature 41 (Send Message) access
code is used to set and cancel Message Waiting Lights:
To send a Message Waiting Light to an extension:
Dial the Send Message access code (*4)
Dial 1 to light the Message Waiting Light
Dial the extension number
41 is the Send Message access code and 1 is the code to light the Message
Waiting Light. The MWL Prefix On in Octel 50 Setup would be *41.
To cancel a Message Waiting Light on an extension:
Dial the Send Message access code (*4)
Dial 2 to cancel the Message Waiting Light
Dial the extension number
41 is the Send Message access code and 2 is the code to cancel the Message
Waiting Light. The MWL Prefix Off code in Octel 50 Setup would be *42.

6.2 ADDITION OCTEL 50 SETTINGS
Before completing the installation and restarting the PC, the following
parameters should be checked and changed to match the value shown in
System Setup:

7.1 POSITIVE DISCONNECT
To provide dial tone for positive disconnects, enable Mitel system
parameter Last Party Clear Dial Tone.
7.2 SUPERVISED TRANSFERS
When the system is programmed to perform a supervised transfer, ensure
that the Subscriber's Coverage Path is for No Answer only and that the ring
timer is greater than Max Rings in the Mailbox Class of Service.
7.3 CONFIGURING DEDICATED PORTS FOR MESSAGE
WAITING LIGHTS
The Mitel will automatically extinguish a station's Message Waiting Light
(MWL) if the station connects with a member of the hunt group that set the
MWL. For example: John receives a message, Octel 50 lights the MWL.
John returns to his desk and calls Mary, Mary's phone is forwarded to
Octel 50. Since John is now connected to the hunt group that turned his
light on, the Mitel automatically extinguishes the MWL even though John
hasn't logged into his mailbox and listened to his message. This is a result
of Mitel's "Messaging-Call Me Back" feature.
This MWL conflict can be avoided by dedicating the ports used for
OUTBOUND in a separate hunt group. Create a hunt group in the same
manner as described in section 5.2. Program these OUTBOUND ports to
forward always to the pilot number of the Voice Mail hunt group (this will
prevent subscribers from calling in on these ports and causing delays for
scheduled MWL events). When a Octel 50 OUTBOUND port (seen in
System Setup as "2" in OUTBOUND) sets an MWL, it will be set by a port
that is not a member of the hunt group to which subscribers forward their
phones and thus will not extinguish the MWL on a forwarded call.

7.4 DIRECT CALL FOR MESSAGE RETRIEVAL
Instruct subscribers to dial the pilot number of the Octel 50 hunt group to
retrieve their messages (or program a button on the phone to do the same).
This will retain the Direct Call feature for message retrieval. Otherwise, if a
subscriber presses the Message Call Back soft key, the call will forward from
the OUTBOUND port into the Voice Mail Hunt group and will lose the
integration information; the system will answer with the main greeting.
7.5 RECORD TELEPHONE CONVERSATION
Record Telephone Conversation is a Telephone Switch dependent feature
which allows a called Subscriber to record a conversation between himself
and the calling party to the called stations mailbox. In order to have this
function the switch must allow for three-way conference.
The Subscriber receives a call they which to record. They hook-flash, get
dialtone, dial the speeddial code for immediate record 501. The SX200D
connects to the Octel 50 sends the stored digit string 7+extension number.
The Subscriber hear a beep indicating the call is being recorded. The
Subscriber hook-flash’s again and forms a three-way-conference.
The system is not sized to accommodate all Subscribers the ability to
record telephone conversations. Subscribers who do expect to use that
function should have the value in mailbox class of service increased for
message time. A value of 600 would allow for a recording of a 10-minute
conversation.
