Work safety
In matters of work safety, the local standards and regula-
tions must be observed. In particular, fall-through protec-
tion must be provided until the weather-proof louvre is in-
stalled. Do not walk on weather-proof louvres themselves
despite the fact that they have been tested and certified
for fall-through protection.

Fall-through protection
Roofs are now more frequently used actively. They are
planted, serve as water retention surfaces or act as loca-
tions for installing solar and building service equipment.
There is a more frequent requirement for roofs to be
accessible, also for foot traffic. This increases the risk of
falling from the roof due to insufficiently secured roof
accesses (skylights, weather-proof louvres, etc.)
If one of the items below applies, roof accesses must have
a shatter-proof design.
1. The building area is freely accessible to third parties.
2. Technical equipment that requires regular maintenance
(e.g. more than once yearly), e.g. vents, solar systems
etc. are located on the roof.
3. The roof is intensively or extensively planted.
4. There are unsecured traffic paths on the building area
with roof access.
5. The building area has roof accesses which are not iden-
tified as such for night work or snow clearing.
Horizontal weather-proof louvres WSG-H3 are guaran-
teed fall-through proof in compliance with EN 1873+A1:2016
(or SIA 232.306+A1). Tested and confirmed by Empa
Dübendorf (Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials
Science and Technology) in Test Report 5214019875.
Remark: Horizontal weather-proof louvres from Lucoma
are fall-through proof but not walkable, it is strictly prohib-
ited to walk on horizontal weather-proof louvres. This
would damage the louvres. Lucoma assumes no liability
for walking on weather-proof louvres and recommends
that this be prevented by additional building measures.
Fire protection
Compliance is mandatory with all relevant international,
national and local standards and regulations for fire pro-
tection.
Lightning protection
Weather-proof louvres must be connected to the lightning
protection system in compliance with international, na-
tional and local standards and regulations.
Explosion protection
Weather-proof louvres are only approved if they have the
appropriate design and are properly labelled according
to ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU for Zone 1, 21 or 2, 22. Please
also note the remarks under the individual items in these
instructions.

3 Mounting frame for horizontal weather-proof louvre in flat roof
construction (optional)
The mounting frame for fitting the horizontal weather-proof
louvre WSG-H3 on flat roof constructions is optionally
available on order and is manufactured to measure de-
pending on the building.
The mounting frame is pre-fabricated and is delivered
knocked-down including fastening materials. The purchas-
er must assemble it on site. Detailed assembly instructions
for the mounting frame are available at www.lucoma.ch.
In principle, weather-proof louvres and the system-com-
patible mounting frames can be used for all flat roof sys-
tems. The two most frequent flat roof types are used as
examples in these assembly instructions. The two sets of
instructions can be taken to derive all other flat roof types.
If you are in any doubt, please contact the specialists at
LUCOMA who are available to process your requests.

5 Installation instructions
Horizontal weather-proof louvres for flat roofs always re-
quire a supporting structure. The suitable mounting frame
can be optionally ordered from LUCOMA or the customer
can make an appropriate frame construction himself.
With louvres larger than 6 m or louvres consisting of sev-
eral louvres, the customer also requires an additional sup-
porting structure for the peripheral water channel or at
the point where the multiple louvres abut. The designing
engineer or the installer is responsible for producing ade-
quate support.

Installation, Operation and Maintenance Instructions
Weather-proof louvre, horizontal,
WSG-H3 for flat roof
The Lucoma type H3 weather-proof louvre can be used on
all flat roof types with a pitch of 0°–35°. If the roof con-
struction has a slope, it must be taken into consideration
when installing the louvre. To ensure trouble-free drain-
age of the louvre, water outlets and the blade alignment
must be positioned as shown in the drawings below.
Undesired water flow may occur if the installation is not
carried out properly. In this case, the manufacturer cannot
assume any liability for consequential damage.
On horizontal weather-proof louvres at locations exposed
to extreme weather, the customer should fit a seal along
the contact surface between the flange and the frame.
Make absolutely certain that the flanges are fully seated
along the entire periphery when the louvre is installed. On
weather-proof louvres which have air duct connection
nozzles and/or internal water drain pipes, the nozzles or
pipes must have a torsion-free connection. The weath-
er-proof louvres are then fully functional.
ATEX: Compliance is mandatory with all relevant interna-
tional and national standards and regulations for Ex
zones. With louvres in ATEX design in particular, the louvre
housing must be earthed using the earth wires fitted by
the manufacturer. When using sealing materials, make
sure that they are suitable for the particular ATEX zone. It
is prohibited to make any mechanical modifications to the
product. In addition, do not attach any components (frost
monitors, temperature sensors etc.) to the louvres if these
components have not been analysed for danger of igni-
tion by their manufacturer or approved for the particular
ATEX zones.

Basically, avoid any damage caused by external influences.
Do not lift the louvre by the blades. Louvres with a maxi-
mum weight of 50 kg can be lifted by their frame. Use the
ring bolts provided for suspension on heavier louvres. Do
not walk on the blades and never use them as foothold.
Any damage e.g. deformed blades, dents, impacts, frame
distortion etc. may result in inadequate water drainage
and undesirable noise. Therefore, report any damage im-
mediately to the supplier or the manufacturer. They will
then be able to assess whether there is any impaired func-
tionality and possible risks.
User information for the use of DIN 580 ring screws
Ring screws according to the aforementioned standard
primarily serve as load handling attachments for the per-
manent fastening on components such as engines, switch
cabinets, gear units, etc., and for their transport. In appli-
cation of multilegged slings, the rules, e.g. according to
DIN EN 818-4 must be observed.
Ring screws should be checked for firm seat and any ob-
vious damages (corrosion, deformation) before use. Ring
screws with deformations should not continue to be used
and should not be screwed back in. Any subsequent colour
marking applied on the ring screws (especially in red)
should be avoided to prevent mistaking them for high-
strength attachment points.
The load-bearing information applies only if
– the ring screw is twisted in completely with a sufficient
thread depth;
– the ring screw rests evenly and completely flush on the
seat area;
–
the introduced forces from the base material can be
absorbed without deformations negatively affecting
safety;
–
the blind holes are drilled deeply enough so that the
seat area can rest flush (according to DIN 76-1).
≥ 45° 240 kg per ring screw
>45°– 60° 170 kg per ring screw
Avoid lateral pull!
With symmetric loads, it is assumed that
only 2 legs bear the load when multilegged
slings are used.

Installation, Operation and Maintenance Instructions
Weather-proof louvre, horizontal,
WSG-H3 for flat roof
Depending on the degree of soiling, clean the louvre at
regular intervals to remove leaves and similar deposits.
WSGs may be cleaned using compressed air, leaf blowers
or brushes. Make sure that as few solid particles (leaves,
twigs, etc.) pass through the top mesh grids. During clean-
ing work, it is absolutely forbidden to walk on the blades.
With very large and poorly accessible WSG-H3, we recom-
mend covering the louvre with a wooden board or similar.
Please make sure that the wooden board is long enough
and contacts the louvre frame on both sides and does not
rest on the blades. The wooden board can be positioned
so that it can be walked on during cleaning work. Suitable
safety measures must be taken to safeguard the cleaning
personnel (e.g. fall protection). This is the responsibility of
the operator.
ATEX: Compliance is mandatory with all relevant inter-
national and national standards and regulations for Ex
zones.
These installation, operation and maintenance instruc-
tions are not a binding installation document for horizon-
tal weather-proof louvres and mounting frames. However,
possible flat roof connection examples are published
based on conventional flat roof structures.
The specifications contained in this document were com-
piled to the best of our knowledge based on current
knowledge and experience. LUCOMA reserves the right
to make changes at any time to match the current state
of production practice. These planning documents make
no claim to completeness. No legally binding obligation
can therefore be derived from them. Compliance is man-
datory with the local construction laws, standards and
regulations for design, component dimensioning, material
selection, laying, and governing heat, moisture, noise and
fire protection.
7 Maintenance
8 Exemption from liability
Safety checkpoint
– Ring screws are tightened firmly and aligned correctly
(avoid lateral pull)
–
Ring screws are undamaged (corrosion, deformation, etc.)
–
The slings have sufficient load bearing capacity and
they are undamaged
– The slings cannot come loose on their own from the at-
tachment point
– Additional restraints to secure the load are present
– Load must never be suspended over people
–
The executing employee has received the needed training
These safety checkpoints are intended as guidance, and
they are not exhaustive. Regarding the safety regulations,
the local requirements must be observed. Lucoma AG
does not accept any liability for the load-bearing capacity
of the screws and the consequences of improper handling.
We recommend securing the loads additionally.
