GENERAL SAFETY RULES
(For All Tools)
WARNING! Read and understand all instructions. Failure

READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS.
1. Keepyour work area cleanandwell lit. Clutteredbenchesand dark areas invite
accidents.
2. Donot operatepowertools in explosive atmospheres,such as in thepresence
of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools create sparks which may
ignite the dust or fumes.
3. Keep bystanders, children, and visitors away while operating a power tool.
Distractions can cause
you to loose control.
4. DoubleInsulatedtoolsare equippedwithapolarizedplug(onebladeiswider
than the other.) This plug
will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the
plug does not fit fully
in the outlet, reversethe plug. If it still does not fit,
contact a qualified electrician to install a polarized outlet. Do not change
the plug
in any way. Double insulation El eliminates the need for the three
wire grounded power cord and grounded power supply system.
5. Avoid body contact withgrounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges
and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is
grounded.
6. Don't exposepower tools torainor wet conditions. Water entering a power
tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
7. Donotabuse the cord. Neverusethecord tocarry thetools or pull the plug
from anoutlet. Keepcord away from heat, oil, sharp edgesor movingparts.
Replace damaged cords immediately. Damaged cords increase the risk of
electric shock.
8. When operating a power tool outside, useanoutdoor extension cordmarked
"W-A" or "W." These cords are rated for outdoor use and reduce the risk
of electric shock.
9. Stay alert, watchwhat youare doingand usecommonsense whenoperating
a power
tool. Do not use tool while tired or under the influence of drugs,
alcohol, or medication.
A moment of inattention while operating power tools
may result in serious personal injury.
IO. Dressproperly. Donot wear looseclothing or jewelry. Contain longhair. Keep
your hair, clothing, andglovesawayfrom moving parts. Looseclothes, jewelry
or
long hair can be caught in moving parts.

11. Avoid accidental starting. Be sure switchisoff before plugging in. Carrying
tools
with your finger onthe switchor plugging in tools that have the switch
on invites accidents.
12. Removeadjusting keys or switches before turning the tool on. A wrench or
a key that is left attached to
a rotating part of the tool may result inpersonal
injury.
13. Donotoverreach. Keepproperfooting andbalanceat alltimes. Properfooting
and balance enables better control of the tool
in unexpected situations.
14. Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection. Dust mask, non-skid
safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection must be used
for appropriate
conditions.
15. Use clamps or other practical way tosecure and support the workpiece to
a stable platform. Holdingthe work by hand or against your body is unstable
and may lead to
loss of control.
16. Do notforce tool. Usethe correct tool for your application. The correct tool
will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it is designed.
17. Do not use tool if switch does not turn it on or off. Any tool that cannot
be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
18. Disconnect the plugfromthe power source beforemakingany adjustments,
changing accessories, or storing the tool. Such preventive safety measures
reduce the risk of starting the tool accidentally.
19. Store idle tools out of reach of children and other untrained persons. Tools
are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
20. Maintain tools with care. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly
maintainedtools, withsharp cutting edges are less likely to bindandare easier
to control.
21. Check for misalignment or binding of movingparts, breakageof parts, and
any other condition that may affect the tools operation. If damaged, have
the toolservicebeforeusing. Many accidents are caused by poorlymaintained
tools.
22. Use only accessoriesthat are recommended by the manufacturer for your
model. Accessories that may be suitablefor one tool, may become hazardous
when used on another tool.
23. Tool service must be performed only by qualified repair personnel. Service
or maintenance performed by unqualified personnel could result in a risk of
injury.
24. When servicingatool, useonly identical replacement parts. Follow instruc-
tions in the Maintenance section of this manual. Use of unauthorized parts
or failure tofollow MaintenanceInstructions maycreate
a riskof electricshock
of injury.

SPECIFIC SAFETY RULES FOR GRINDER
1. Always useproper guardwithgrindingwheel. A guard protectsoperator from
broken wheel fragments.
2. Accessories must be rated for at least the speed recommended on the tool
warninglabel. Wheels and other accessories running over ratedspeed can
fly
apart and cause injury.
3. Holdtool by insulatedgrippingsurfaces when performinganoperationwhere
the cutting tool may contact hidden wiring or its own cord. Contact
with a
"live" wire
will make exposed metal parts of the tool "live" and shock the
operator.
4. Never use hubbed grinding wheels on this tool (for 9526PB only).

Installingthewheel guard
Mount the wheel guard with the tab on the
wheel guard band aligned with the notch
on the bearing box. Then rotate the wheel
guard 180" counterclockwise. Be sure to
tighten the screw securely.
Installingside grip (auxiliary handle)
For 9527PB and 9528PB only
Screw the side grip on the tool securely.
The side grip can be installedon either side
of thetool, whichever
is convenient.
Installingor removing
the depressed center wheel
CAUTION:
Always be sure that the tool
is switched off and unplugged before installingor removing
the wheel.
Mount the inner flangeonto the spindle. Fitthe wheel on over the inner flange and screw
the lock nutontothe spindle.

To tighten the lock nut, press the shaft
I
lock firmly so that the spindle cannot re-
volve, then use the lock nut wrench and
securely tightenclockwise.

WARN I NG :
Only actuate the shaft lock when the spindle is not moving.
Switchaction
CAUTION :
0 Do not pullthe trigger forcibly without pushinginthe lock-off button.
0 Before plugginginthe tool, alwayscheck to see that the switchtrigger actuatesproperly
and returnstothe
"OFF" positionwhen released.
To prevent the trigger from being acciden-
tally actuated,
a lock-off button is pro-
vided.
To start thetool, push inthe lock-off
button and then pull the trigger.
Release
the trigger to stop. For continuousopera-
tion, pull the trigger and then push in the
lock-on button.
To stop the tool from the
locked position, pull the trigger fully, the
release
it.

Operation
Hold the tool firmly. Turn the tool on and
then apply the wheel or disc to
the work-
piece.
In general, keep the edge
of the wheel or
disc
at an angle of about 15" to the work-
piecesurface.
During the break-in period with
a new
wheel, do not work the grinder
in the B
direction or it will cut into the workpiece.
Once the edge
of the wheel has been
rounded off
by use, the wheel may be
worked inboth
A and B directions.

WARNING:
0 Itshould never be necessary to force the tool. The weight of the tool applied adequate
pressure. Forcingand excessive pressure could cause dangerouswhen wheel breakage.
0 Continued use of a worn-out wheel may result inwheel explosionand serious personal
injury. Depressed center wheel should not be used after
it has beeen worn down to
75 mm (3") in diameter for Model 9526PB or 90 mm (3-1/2") for Models 9527PB and
9528PB in diameter. Use of the wheel after this point
is unsafe and it should be re-
movedfrom service and renderedunusable by intentional destruction.

MAINTENANCE
CAUTION :
Always be sure that the tool is switchedoff and unplugged beforeattempting toperform
inspectionor maintenance.
Replacingcarbonbrushes
Remove and check the carbon brushes
regularly. Replacewhen they wear down to
the limit mark. Keep the carbon brushes
clean and free to slip
in the holders. Both
carbon brushes should be replaced
at the
Limit mark
same time. Use only identical carbon
brushes.
Use
a screwdriver to remove the brush
holder caps. Take out the worn carbon
brushes, insert the new ones and secure the
brush holdercaps.
