USE RIGHT TOOL. Don't force small tool or attachment to do the job of a
heavy-duty tool. Don't use tool for purpose not intended.
DRESS PROPERLY. Don't wear looseclothing or jewelry. They can becaught
in moving parts. Rubber gloves and non-skid footwear are recommended
whenworking outdoors. Wear protective hair covering tocontainlong hair.
USE SAFETY GLASSES. Also use face or dust mask if cutting operation is
dusty.
DON'T ABUSE CORD. Never carry tool by cordor yank
it todisconnect from
receptacle. Keep cord from heat, oil, and sharp edges.
SECURE WORK. Use clamps or a vise to hold work. It's safer than using
your hand and
it frees both hands to operate tool.
DON'T OVERREACH. Keep proper footing and balance at all times.
MAINTAIN TOOLS WITH CARE. Keep tools sharp and clean for better and
safer performance. Follow instructions
for lubricating and changing acces-
sories. Inspecttoolcords periodicallyandifdamaged, haverepaired byautho-
rized service facility. Inspect extension cords periodically and replace if
damaged. Keep handles dry, clean, and free from oil and grease.

in use, beforeservicing, and whenchang-
ing accessories, such as blades, bits, cutters.

14. REMOVE ADJUSTING KEYS AND WRENCHES. Form habit of checking to
see that keysandadjusting wrenches are removed from tool before turning
it on.
15. AVOID UNINTENTIONALSTARTING. Don’t carry plugged-intoolwithfinger
on switch. Be sure switch is OFF when plugging in.
16. OUTDOOR USEEXTENSIONCORDS. Whentoolis usedoutdoors, use only

17. STAY ALERT. Watchwhat you are doing, usecommonsense. Don’t operate
tool when you are tired.
18. CHECK DAMAGEDPARTS. Before further use of the tool, a guard or other
part that is damaged should be carefully checked to determine that
it will
operate properly and performits intended function. Check for alignmentof
movingparts, bindingof movingparts, breakageof parts, mounting, andany
other conditions that may affect its operation. A guard or other part that
is damaged should be properly repaired or replaced by an authorized serv-
ice center unless otherwise indicated elsewhere inthis instructionmanual.
Have defective switches replaced by authorized service center. Don’t use
tool if switch does not turn
it on and off.
19. GUARD AGAINST ELECTRIC SHOCK. Preventbody contact with grounded
surfaces. For example; pipes, radiators, ranges, refrigerator enclosures.
20. REPLACEMENTPARTS.When servicing, useonly identical replacementparts.
VOLTAGE WARNING: Before connectingthe tool toa power source (receptacle,
outlet, etc.) be sure the voltage supplied is the same as that specified on the
nameplate of the tool. A power source withvoltage greater than that specified
for the tool can result inSERIOUS INJURY to the user
- as well as damage to
the tool. If in doubt, DO NOT PLUG IN THE TOOL. Using
a power source with
voltage less than the nameplate rating is harmful to the motor.

2. Before usingbattery charger, read all instructionsand cautionary markings
on
(1) battery charger, (2) battery, and (3) product using battery.
3. CAUTION - To reduce risk of injury, charge only MAKITA Battery 9000.
Other types of batteries may burst causing personal injury and damage.
4. Do not expose charger to rain or snow.
5. Use of an attachment not recommended or sold by the battery charger
manufacturer mayresult
in arisk of fire, electric shock, or injurytopersons.
6. To reduce risk of damage toelectric plug and cord, pullby plugrather than
cord when disconnecting charger.
7. Make sure cord is located so that it will not be stepped on, tripped over, or
otherwise subjected to damage or stress.
8. Anextension cord should not be used unless absolutely necessary. Use of
improper extension cord could result in a risk of fire and electric shock. If
extension cord must be used, make sure:
a. That pins onplug
of extension cordare the same number, size, and shape
b. That extension cord is properly wiredand ingood electrical condition; and
c. That wire size is at least as large as the one specified inthe table below.

9. Do not operate charger with damaged cord or plug - replace them im-
mediately.

serviceman when service or repair is required. Incorrect reassembly may

ingany maintenanceor cleaning. Turningoff controls will notreducethis risk.

ADDITIONAL SAFETY RULES
FOR CHARGER & BATTERY CARTRIDGE
1. Do not charge Battery Cartridge when temperature is BELOW 10°C (5OOF)
or ABOVE 4OoC (104OF).
2. Donotattempttouseastep-uptransformer, an enginegenerator or DC power
