GENERAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
(For All Tools)
1. KNOW YOUR POWER TOOL. Readthe owner's manual carefully. Learnthe
tools applications and limitations, as well as the specific potential hazards
peculiar to
it.
2. KEEP GUARDS IN PLACE and in working order.
3. REMOVE ADJUSTING KEYS AND WRENCHES. Form habit of checking to
see that keys and adjustingwrenches are removed from tool before turning
it on.
4. KEEP WORK AREA CLEAN. Cluttered areas and benches invite accidents.
5. DON'T USE INDANGEROUSENVIRONMENT. Don't usepowertools in damp
or wet locations, or expose them to rain. Keep work area well lighted.

6. KEEP CHILDRENAWAY. All visitors should be kept safe distance from work
area.
7. MAKE WORKSHOP KID PROOF with padlocks, master switches, or by
removing starter keys.
8. DON'T FORCETOOL. It will do thejob better andsafer at the ratefor which
it was designed.
9. USE RIGHT TOOL. Don't force tool or attachment to do a job for which it
was not designed.
IO. WEAR PROPER APPAREL. Donotwear loose clothing, gloves, neckties, rings,
bracelets, or other jewelry which may get caught
in moving parts. Nonslip

11. ALWAYS USE SAFETY GLASSES. Also use face or dust mask if cutting
operation is dusty. Everyday eyeglasses only have impact resistant lenses,
they are NOT safety glasses.
12. SECURE WORK. Useclamps or a visetoholdwork when practical. It's safer
than using your hand and
it frees both hands to operate tool.
13. DON'T OVERREACH. Keep proper footing and balance at all times.
14. MAINTAIN TOOLS WITH CARE. Keep tools sharp and clean for best and
safest performance. Follow instructions for lubricatingand changing acces-
sories.

full speed before cutting.
18. Stop operation immediately
if you notice anything abnormal.
19. DO not attempt to lock the trigger in the on position.
20. Shut off power and wait for saw blade to stop before servicing or adjusting
tool.

21. Be alert at all times, especially during repetitive, monotonous operations.
Don't be lulledintoafalse sense of security. Blades are extremelyunforgiving.
22. Turn off tool and wait for saw blade to stop before moving workpiece or
changing settings.
23. Always use accessories recommended
in this manual. Use of improper
accessories such as abrasive wheels may cause an injury.
24. Don't abuse cord. Never yank cord
to disconnect it from the receptacle. Keep
cord away from heat, oil, water and sharp edges.
25. Never attempt to cut workpieces less than
14 Gauge (0.08") thick except
pipeor workpieceswhich cannot be securedfirmly withthe vise. The piece
cut off may be caught by the blade, causing dangerous scattering of chips
and/or damage to the carbide-tips. Possible serious injury may result.

26. Unplug tool before changing blade or servicing.

Socket wrench
The socket wrench is stored on the left
side
of the tool base. When using the
socket wrench, pull it out
of the wrench
holder. After using the socket wrench,
returnit to the wrench holder.
Positioningthe tool
When the tool is shipped from the factory,
the handle is locked in the lowered posi-
tion. Release the handle from the lowered
position by lowering is slightly and remov-
ingthe chainfrom the hook on the handle.
Bolt the tool with two bolts to
a level and
stablesurface usingthe bolt holes provided
in the
tool base. This will help prevent tip-
pingand possibleinjury.

Removing or installing saw blade
CAUTION:
.Always be sure that the tool is switchedoff and unpluggedbeforeremovingor installing
the blade.
.When mountingthe blade, make sure that the direction
of the arrow on the surface of
the blade matchesthe direction of the arrow on the blade case.
.Use only the Makitasocket wrench providedto installor removethe blade. Failure todo
so may resultinovertighteningor insufficienttighteningof the hex bolt.This couldcause
serious injurytooperator or others inthe general vicinity of the tool.
.Do not touch the blade immediately after operation; it may be extremely hot and could
burnyour skin.
To remove the blade, loosen the hex bolt
holding the center cover with the socket
wrench. Raise the safety cover (safety
guard)and center cover.

Press the shaft lock to lock the spindle and
use the socket wrench to loosen the hex
bolt by turning counterclockwise. Then
remove the hex bolt, outer flange and
blade.

To installthe blade, mountthe inner flange,
saw blade, outer flange and hex bolt onto
the spindle in that order. Tighten the hex
bolt by turning clockwise while pressingthe
shaft lock. Return the safety cover and
center cover to the original position. Then
tighten the hex bolt clockwise to secure the
center cover. Lower the handle to make
sure that the safety cover moves properly.

CAUTION:
Always tighten the hex bolt securely after changingthe cuttingangle.
To change the cutting angle, loosen the
lever. Move the vise stop
so that the indi-
cator
will point to the desired graduation.
Then tighten the lever to secure the vise
stop.

Securing workpieces
CAUTION:
Always set the vise nut to the right fully when securing the workpiece. Failure to do
so
may result ininsufficient securingof theworkpiece. This could cause the workpiece to be
ejectedor causedamageto the blade.
By turning the vise handle counterclock-
wise and then flipping the vise nut to the
left, the vise is released from the shaft
threads and can be moved rapidly in and
out. To grip workpieces, push the vise
handle until the vise plate contacts the
workpiece. Flipthe vise nut to the right and
then turn the vise handle clockwise to
securely retain the workpiece.

Long workpieces must be supported by
