Definition of Tamping Rammer
Tamping Rammer is a compacting machine, capable of quickly working by applying consecutive
impacts to the surface of soil-in order to level the uneven soil surface, to compact the soil uniformly
so that the void among soil particles are minimized and to increase its dry densitywith moisture in the
soil removed.

filled with inflammable and explosive gases and liquids.
NEVER allow people, except the operator, to touch the power cable or its extension.
NEVER let kids or visitors appear in the work area.
NEVER pull the plug out of the socket violently.
NEVER operate the machine if the starter switch works badly. Restart it after the
specialist replacing the disable switch with a new one.
NEVER operate the machine when the motor cover fell off.
NEVER make fatigue operation
NEVER operate the machine under an over-voltage power supply. The rated power is
the most reliable for a safe and perfect performance.
NEVER stand too far away from the machine and make sure operator keeps in good
balance as well as the standing point or other surface is strong enough to support the
operator.
NEVER allow two people to operate the machine at one time.
ALWAYS read, understand, and follow procedures in Operator’s Manual before
attempting to operate equipment.
ALWAYS be sure that all other persons are at a safe distance from the rammer. Stop the
machine if people step into the working area of the machine.
ALWAYS be sure operator is familiar with proper safety precautions and operation
techniques before using rammer.
ALWAYS wear protective clothing when operating rammer.
ALWAYS wear hearing protection.
ALWAYS keep hands, feet, and loose clothing away from moving parts of rammer.
ALWAYS be sure rammer will not tip over, roll slide, or fall when not being operated.
ALWAYS guide the rammer in such a way that the operator is not squeezed between
the rammer and solid objects. Special care is required when working on uneven ground
or compacting coarse material. Make sure to stand firmly when operating the machine
under such conditions.
ALWAYS operate the rammer in such a way that there is no danger of it turning over or
falling in, when working near the edges of breaks, pits, slopes, trenches and platforms.
Electric tamping rammer must have a power leakage protection device. The operator
must wear insulated gloves and shoes, and should inspect the power joint frequently
during the performance in case the power cable is too tight to loose from the socket
causing an electric shock accident.

4
NEVER cut off the power supply before turning engine starter switch to OFF when work
was done.
ALWAYS check power voltage before launching themachine, for a wrong power voltage
will cause critically damage to the motor.
ALWAYS check the connecting spares and ensure no loosing or cracked parts were
used. Always keep power cables in good state and have a reliable connection to the
earth.
ALWAYS keep the handle dry, clean, and oil or grease-free before launching.
ALWAYS make the operator have a clear sight in the work area.
ALWAYS operate the machine with two hands, and put one hand close to the engine
starter switch in case of an emergency.
ALWAYS check if the motor rotates the same direction marked on the label when it was
powered on. If not, change the phase line.
ALWAYS check the insulated rubber spares. If any damage or loose was found, replace
or fasten it.
NEVER make heavy pressure on the handle in a normal situation, it affects the jumping
height. While a moderate press would accelerate machine’s forwarding speed when it
works on soft stuffing or climbs a slope.
ALWAYS keep the machine in a dry and children-out-reach place after performance.
•Electrical Equipment Operating Safety
DANGER
1. Operating safety rules have to be followed when the electric motor is working. Otherwise, it will
cause serious injury or death.
2. Make sure the employed extension cable fulfills rated power currency requests and doesn’t have
any worn on surface.
3. Do not touch the ground, water pipe, metal railing, water tank, or any tube system directly with
your body during the operation.
4. Do not operate electrical rammer in rainy or snowy day; always keep the motor and wires in the
starter box dry.
5. Do not operate the machine in moisture circumstance.
6. The extension cable must be outdoors certificated when it is used outside.
7. The extension cable has to be equipped with special-purpose ground socket matching machine’s
plug.
8. Always protect the cable against heat sources, oil, and sharp blade. Check if any worn on the
surface before every launching, if any, repair it or replace it immediately.
9. Make a periodic inspection of the cable. If any damage, replace it.

5
•Maintenance Safety
WARNINGS
1. Poorly maintained equipment can become a safety hazard! In order to operate the equipment
safely and properly over a long period of time, periodic maintenance and occasional repairs are
necessary.
2. DO NOT attempt to clean or service rammer while the power supply does not cut off. Do not
open the motor cover or wash the electric device with high pressure watering instrument.
3. DO NOT launch the motor before cutting off the connection between the motor and the rammer,
because the rotary spares are exposed outside.
4. Machine’s appearance maintenance is very important to develop its safety function. So keep the
exploded motor spares clean is especially useful to prevent motor overheating.
5. Do not leave any residual fragments in the maintenance area in case of a fire accident.
6. Replace the safety device after the maintenance was done.
7. Make a periodic maintenance according to the manual’s instruction.
8. Replace all unreadable labels with a new MASALTA-like one. If safety labels are unreadable or
missing, that may cause deadly danger or injury.

Operating Instruction
•Usage: Tamping rammer is designed to deal with adhesive soil, sand, and granular compaction,
but not suitable for hard concrete surface or earth ground. The electrical tamping rammer is
suitable for works, especially, in an emission and noise forbidden area.
•Power connection: To reduce electric shock risks, all four-line plugs and sockets and extension
cables must have a ground line.
1..1 Keep the starter switch at OFF before power connection.
1..2 Check if voltage of power source matches the rated or not. A lower voltage supply
slows down the compaction speed, degrades machine’s function, and causes motor
overheating.
1..3 To protect the operator from an electric shock, the machine must have a ground line
connection. All Masalta electric rammers are equipped with a four-line cable and
socket, the line of yellow and green color is for the ground connection.
•Power cable application
If an extension cable is required during an operation, the cable size should be large enough
to carry machine’s rated load, for poor load-carrying cable lowers down the voltage and then
overheats the closed circuit, which may cause a serious fire accident and danger.
Specification of the cable depends on its length. Any doubts about this, choose the big
enough one as an option. And, it is not allowed to use old or worn cables.

•Power on/off the machine
Switch the starter to ON to run the motor, and the rammer begins to work. Switch it to OFF to
stop the machine.
•Correct compacting operation
1..4 Guide the machine on handle and it will move forward automatically. Never let the
machine works overload.
1..5 Picture b is the correct way to operate the rammer, as the whole base plate makes
parallel punches on the ground. Picture a and c are wrong ways, for it only allows the
front or back part of the plate to tamp the ground. Wrong compacting operations
shorten base plate’s service life.
