TheCLKTCDisaprecisionanalogclockcontainingasteppermotordriveandadvanced
microprocessorcontrolledelectronics.
IRIG‐B
DefinedbytheRangeCommandersCouncil,U.S.ArmyWhiteSandsMissileRange.IRIG(Inter‐
rangeInstrumentationGroup)isusedbymilitary,government,powerindustryandmanyother
commercialandindustrialapplications.TheCLKTCDdecodesIRIG‐Binbotha1kHzmodulated
(IRIG‐B1)andun‐modulated/pulsewidthcoded/DClevelshifted(IRIG‐B0)format.Allformatsof
IRIG‐BtimecodedecodedbytheCLKTCDusethetimeofyearinformationBCD(BinaryCoded
Decimal).AllformatsofIRIG‐BtimecodedecodedbytheCLKTCDalsousetheextended
year/dateandtimezoneinformationinthecontrolfunctionsasdefinedbytheIEEE1344
specification.SBS(StraightBinarySeconds)informationisnotdecoded.Manchester
format/encodingisnotsupported.
TheCLKTCDcanbeconfiguredforworld‐widetimezoneoffsetandautomaticDST(DaylightSaving

Donotexposethisclocktotemperaturesoutsidetherangeof32˚to140°F(0˚to60˚C).Placingyour
deviceinanenvironmentthatistoocoldorhumidmaydamagetheunit.Donotplaceheavyobjects
ontopofthisclockoruseexcessiveforceonit.Neverusebenzene,paintthinners,detergentorother
chemicalproductstocleantheoutsideofthisclock.Suchproductswilldisfigureanddiscolorthe
casing.

HealthandSafety
Thisclockgenerates,uses,andcanradiateradiofrequencyenergyand,ifnotinstalledandusedin
accordancewiththeinstructions,maycauseharmfulinterferencetoradiocommunications.Thereis
noguaranteethatinterferencewillnotoccurinaparticularinstallation.Ifthisclockdoescause
harmfulinterferencetoradioortelevisionreception,whichcanbedeterminedbyremovingpower
fromtheclock,theuserisencouragedtotrytocorrecttheinterferencebyoneormoreofthe
followingmeasures:
1. ConnecttheACpowercordintoanoutletonadifferentcircuitthanotherdevices.
2. Increasethephysicaldistancebetweentheclockandotherdevices.

deviceanddonotexposeittowater,excessiveheatorphysicalabuse.

Afterapplyingpower,theCLKTCDwillgothroughaninternalcheckout.UTC(UniversalCoordinated
Time)fromtheRTC(RealTimeClock)backupwillthenbedisplayedplusanyTimeZoneand/orDST
(DaylightSavingTime)offsets,untilatimecodesignalisacquired.Iftimecodeisnot“locked”,the
redstatusLEDwillbeonsoliduntiltimecodeisacquired.

Ifforanyreasontheclockhandsbecomeslightlyoutofalignment,acalibrationsettingfunctionhas
beenprovidedinCLKTCD‐Setconfigurationutilityorusingthebuttonslocatedontheback.
ThehandsoftheCLKTCDcannotbesetmanually.Donotattempttoopentheclocktoaccess
thehands.Thisactionwillvoidyourwarranty.Thisdevicehasnouserserviceableparts
inside.
TheCLKTCDseriescanbeconfiguredusingoneofthefollowingmethods:

Iftheconfigurationsoftwareisusedtoconfiguretheclock,theDIPswitchsettingswill
beignoredorover‐ridden.Inordertorestoretheconfigurationmodetotheuseofthe
DIPswitches,theunitmustbeResettothefactorydefaultmode.
TimeZoneOffsets
AlltimecodeanalogclocksmaintaintimeasUTC.
Atimezoneoffsetorbiascanbeusedtoadjustthetimefordisplaypurposes.Abiascanbesetasa
positive(+)offsetindicatingthattheunitleadstheUTCtimeornegative(‐)offsetvalueindicatingthe
unitlagsbehindUTCtime.Anoffsetwitharesolutionofonehalfhour(viaDIPswitches)or1second
(viaCLKTCD‐Setconfigurationutility)canbeachieved.
IfthetimecodeinputtotheADC‐A12C31isnotUTC,donotadjustthetimezoneand/or
DSToffset.
DaylightSavingTime
AnautomaticDSTsettingcanbeconfiguredseparatelyandinadditiontoatimezoneoffset.
ForSMPTEtimecodes,datemustbeencodedtotheLeitchspecification.IRIG‐Bdatedecodingis
supportedfortheIEEE1344standard.
TheincomingtimecodemusthavethedateencodedinaformatrecognizedbytheCLKTCD
forDSTadjustmentstobeperformed.ForbestreliabilityMasterclockrecommendsatime
codereferencethatencodesfulldateinformation,suchastheMasterclockGPS200Atime
codegenerator.

OnAugust8,2005,theEnergyPolicyActof2005wassigned.ThisActchangedthetime
changedatesforDaylightSavingTimeintheU.S,effectivein2007.DSTnowbeginsonthe
secondSundayofMarchat2:00AM(LocalTime)andendthefirstSundayofNovemberat
2:00AM(LocalTime).
EUStandard–EuropeanUnion
IntheEuropeanUnion,daylightchangetimesaredefinedrelativetotheUTCtimeofday
insteadoflocaltimeofday(likeintheU.S.).FortheEuropeanUnion,summertimeperiod
beginsat1:00AMUTConthelastSundayofMarchandendsat1:00AMUTConthelast
SundayofOctober.Europeancustomers,pleasecarefullyconsultthesectionentitled“Device

Toensureproperhands‐freeyear‐aroundoperation,DSTadjustmentsmustbeconfigured
usingthedaylighttimeoptionandnotwiththetimezoneoffsetoption.
FreewheelingAccuracy
TheCLKTCDhasbuilt‐inprovisionstoallowtheclocktofreewheelandmaintainaccuracyfor
extendedperiodsintheabsenceoftimecode.Thesefeaturesalsoallowtheunittobesetmanually
andoperatewithouttimecode.
TCXOandRTCcircuit
TheCLKTCDcontainsaprecisionTCXOandRTCcircuitallowingtheclocktomaintainan
accuracyof+/‐1minuteperyeartothelastknowntimecodeinput(+/‐165mSperday)
whentimecodeisnotpresetorcannotbedecoded(i.e.freewheelingmode).
Maintenance‐freeRechargeableBattery
TheRTCandTCXOaremaintainedcontinuouslyfromarechargeablebatterycircuitduring
periodsofpoweroutage.Minimumholdoverperiodistwoweeksoncethebatteryis
charged.Thebatterywillautomaticallychargewhentheunitisnextpoweredandrequires
nomaintenance.
Non‐VolatileConfiguration
Theclockconfigurationsaremaintainedinnon‐volatilememoryallowingthecurrentsettingstobe
retainedduringpoweroutages.
