1 About this Application Note
This Application Note describes the installation procedure for the Diskeeper® program.
2 About Diskeeper
The Diskeeper software prevents file fragmentation that mainly occurs when a job is
R Ped directly from the Caldera/ColorGate to the Barak/UVStar printer.
The Barak/UVStar computers run on the Windows operating system. This system
cannot allocate space for the flow of the complete R Ped file. Therefore it continuously
saves parts of the file in a number of sectors that are not necessarily adjacent to each
other.
When the R Ped file has been completely transferred, the result is thousands of
fragmented files, scattered over the hard drive. Consequently, as the printer prints at a
speed of 2.2 m/sec, the computer cannot collect the dispersed data at such a rate.
Job fragmentation is the main cause of the Carriage pausing at the end of a pass,
during printing.
Using the Diskeeper program should eliminate this phenomenon.

3 Installing the Diskeeper
1. Download the Diskeeper Professional version from Matan's ftp:
ftp://62.219.110.59/Diskeeper%20Professional%20Edition/
Username: matan/engc
Password: matanengc.
n future, it will be incorporated in the software's installer disk.
2. Run the downloaded exe file.
3. n the D SKEEPER P REFERENCES window, uncheck E NABLE AUTOMAT C
DEFRAGMENTAT ON ON ALL VOLUMES ON TH S COMPUTER .
4. Uncheck A CT VATE D SKEEPER AFTER NSTALLAT ON .
5. Uncheck enable D SKEEPER NEWS AND NFORMAT ON .
See figure below.
6. Click N EXT and create an icon on the Desktop by checking the C REATE D ESKTOP
SHORTCUT FOR D SKEEPER option.

7. Click N EXT .
8. Click nstall.
The software is installed and the following window appears.
9. Check the A CT VATE D SKEEPER NOW option.
An nternet connection on another computer is required.
10. Check the A CT VATE D SKEEPER MANUALLY option.
11. Click O K , as shown in the above figure.

12. Activate the Diskeeper F/E and select D SKEEPER MANUAL ACT VAT ON , as shown
below.
13. Copy the line of figures and numbers from the C OPY window.
14. On the other computer connected to the internet, click the following link:
http://www.diskeeper.com/activation/activate.aspx
The following window appears.

15. Paste the copied file into the S TEP 1 window.
16. Carry out the instructions displayed in S TEP 2.
17. Click G ET ACT VAT ON CODE , between S TEP 2 and S TEP 3 shown above.
The A CT VAT ON C ODE line appears in the Step 3 window.
18. Copy the code to the Barak/Uvistar PC in the above figure, to the P ASTE window,
and click A CT VATE N OW .
19. Restart the Diskeeper program.
20. Go to the P ROPERT ES dialog box—it is the 4
th
icon from the top left, as shown
below.
21. n the P ROPERT ES dialog box, click NTELL WR TE and check the PREVENT
DEFRAGMENTAT ON ON TH S VOLUME check box.
22. n the A UTOMAT C D EFRAGMENTAT ON pane, check the E NABLE A UTOMAT C
D EFRAGMENTAT ON ON THE SELECTED VOLUME OPT ON displayed below, and turn on
AUTOMAT C DEFRAGMENTAT ON ON , OR OFF , BASED ON YOUR WEEKLY PR NT NG PATTERN .

23. n the B OOT T ME D EFRAGMENTAT ON pane, uncheck the optional E NABLE BOOT T ME
DEFRAGMENTAT ON TO RUN TO A SELECTED VOLUME .
17. Click A PPLY .
18. Check one of the directories, for example C://, and make sure the Diskeeper is
working.
19. Right-click the C: drive, go to PROPERT ES T OOLS , and click D EFRAGMENT N OW .
The Diskeeper S/W appears.
24. Click D
EFRAGMENT .

When the process is complete, the following window should appear.
The Diskeeper is now active and will do its job, protecting your disk!!!
