1 General guidelines
Please read this user manual carefully before starting to use the accessories. The user manual includes important safety
information. Make sure that you always have access to digital or printed version of the user manual.
Should the manual no longer be legible, is damaged or has been lost, you can download a new copy from MELAG
download centre at www.melag.com.

2 Safety
When using the accessories in the Careclave comply with the following safety instructions as well as those
in the individual sections. Also note and follow the safety instructions in the Careclave user manual.
Qualified personnel
nBoth instrument reprocessing and the sterilization of instruments and textiles with Careclave may only be performed
by qualified personnel.
nThe operator must ensure that the users are regularly trained in the operation and safe handling of the device.
Instruments/accessories
nUse original accessories from MELAG. MELAG does not provide a guarantee for non-MELAG accessories, even if
they are in possession of validation.
nUse the accessories only for the Careclave. Disregard can cause personal injuries or damage to the device.
nWhen using additional accessories from other manufacturers to secure instruments, especially hollow-body
instruments, follow the instructions in the operating manual provided by the manufacturer of the accessories.
nOnly use instruments intended for automatic reprocessing by the manufacturer. Please ensure that you observe the
information provided by the instrument manufacturers according to ISO 17664. It is important to comply with the
specifications from the instrument manufacturer regarding cleaning instruments for the first time after purchasing
new instruments.
nOnly use instruments made of stainless steel or other non-corroding materials.
nBefore using the accessories for the first time, check them for manufacturing residues and damage. Clean the
accessories in the device. To do so, carry out a suitable program without load.
Personal protective equipment
nUse suitable aids, e.g. protective gloves, to remove the Carebox.
nUse aids to remove the sterile material, e.g. protective gloves or a tray lifter.
Disposal
nDispose of accessories properly if they show signs of wear (e.g. abrasion, cracks or corrosion) or damage (e.g.
deformation) to a great degree.
nThe accessories may not be disposed as domestic waste. Comply with all relevant disposal specification in terms of
possibly contaminated waste.
nReprocess the accessories to be disposed of in Careclave in isolation before you dispose of them.

The Carebox Blue/Green is used to reprocess instruments and hollow bodies in the Careclave 618. The instruments
must be fixed on the adapters provided for this purpose. It is not possible to reprocess instruments that are not fixed on
adapters.
Comply with the following for safe handling:
nCarebox Blue is used for reprocessing instruments that must be maintained with care oil.
nCarebox Green is used to reprocess instruments and hollow bodies, which may not be maintained with care oil.

PLEASE NOTE
The lower section of the Carebox is magnetic at the rear.
Keep the lower section of the Carebox away from objects that are sensitive to magnetism or can be attracted
to the magnet.
Preparation and pre-cleaning
nIf instruments are to be subject to manual preparation for cleaning, ensure that no media or tools/resources are
deployed which could damage their surface. Never use any aggressive cleaning agents, wire or brass wire brushes
or metal scourers. Information regarding correct instrument reprocessing is available from your instrument
manufacturer.
nRemove water-insoluble treatment substances (e.g. dental cement, root canal disinfectants, alginates or silicones)
directly after use by manual cleaning. Consult the product data sheets of the treatment substances.
nOther substances can also necessitate manual pre-cleaning. These include ultrasound gels and other auxiliary
substances.
nCheck hollow bodies (transmission instruments, cannulas, etc.) for free passage.
nDisassemble dismountable instruments for reprocessing according to the manufacturer's instructions.
nRemove corroded or defective instruments. Crusted instruments must be subject to a basic cleaning or repair.
nKRINKO/BfArM (2012) recommend that instruments of the risk class “Semi-critical B” and “Critical B” are subjected
to pre-cleaning directly after use.
Loading the Carebox
WARNING
Danger from contaminated transmission instruments.
NOTICE
Instrument damage due to incorrect maintenance.
Observe the type of Carebox (Blue/Green) when loading.
nInstruments which may not be cared for (oiled) belong in the Carebox Green.
nInstruments which require care belong in the Carebox Blue.
Observe the following when loading the Carebox:
nThe instruments are contaminated after treatment and have sharp edges and tips. Use suitable protective gloves
when loading the Carebox.
nDo not use the protective gloves used for loading for further operation of the device.
nCheck the instruments for free passage before loading to prevent residues from impairing the disinfection.
nOnly dental transmission instruments or hollow bodies may be reprocessed in the Carebox. These must be attached
to the adapters provided for this purpose. It is not possible to reprocess instruments or hollow bodies that are not
fixed on adapters.
Transmission instruments should be reprocessed immediately after use.
The following must be fulfilled or present:
üThere are no tools (drills) in the chucks.
üThe Carebox has no visible contaminants.
PLEASE NOTE
MELAG recommends that the Carebox be fully loaded.
If necessary, adapters can remain unfitted. This does not reduce the oil consumption.

1. Place the Carebox into the unclean area of the reprocessing
room.
2. Insert the transmission instruments onto the adapters as far as
they will go, see Adapter installation [}page16].
ÊThe heads point sideways to the edge.
ÊThe instrument engages audibly and noticeably.
3. For Sirona T1 Classic:
Align the transmission instrument so that the connections of the
spray channels match the receptacles provided in the adapter.
4. Check that the transmission instrument and adapter are correctly
connected by gently pulling on the instrument.
5. For tips:
Screw the tip onto the adapter using the torque wrench provided
by the instrument manufacturer.
PLEASE NOTE: Reprocessing with a torque wrench connected is
possible, as far as this has been approved by the manufacturer
for automatic reprocessing.
6. Check in the lower section whether the Carebox sieve is inserted
and fixed from below with the safety spring.
7. Check in the lower section whether the lateral media filters are
inserted.
8. Place the upper section on the lower section of the Carebox.
9. Carry out a wipe disinfection of the outside of the Carebox with a
fully virucidal disinfectant.
10. NOTICE!If the latches are very difficult to close, check the
cover to ensure that it is correctly seated. Close the latches on
both sides until you hear and feel them engage.
11. Carry out a wipe disinfection of the underside of the Carebox with
a fully virucidal disinfectant.

Removing instruments and hollow bodies
CAUTION
Danger of burns from hot parts and hot condensate.
Comply with the following for safe handling:
nTo ensure safe removal of the instruments and hollow bodies, check whether they have cooled down sufficiently.
nIf instruments and hollow bodies have detached from the adapters, reprocess them again. They are not sterile.
nIf necessary, take additional measures to cool down the instruments and hollow bodies:
- Using the Cooling Box: Cooling time approx. 4min
- Cool down in the ambient air with the Carebox open: Cooling time at least 15min
- Cool down in the closed Carebox: Cooling time at least 30min
1. Check that the transmission instrument is firmly seated.
ÊShould the connection work loose after reprocessing, the
instrument must be reprocessed again.
2. Hold the upper section of the Carebox with one hand.
3. When using an adapter for Sirona T1 Classic:
Pull the transmission instrument forcefully and in a straight direction
from the adapter with your other hand.
4. When using an adapter with an ISO connector:
Operate the latch with your other hand and pull the transmission
instrument from the adapter forcefully and in a straight direction.
5. When using an adapter for tips:
Unscrew the adapter using the torque wrench.
6. Keep the Carebox on the clean side of the reprocessing room.

PLEASE NOTE
The transmission instruments are dried by compressed air/vacuum drying of the inner channels.
The result of the drying process strongly depends on the type and design of the instruments.
nCheck the drying result of the transmission instruments and, if necessary, dry them with medical
compressed air after removal.

It is not possible to reprocess instruments if they are not correctly fixed on adapters or not on the correct
adapters.

Marking discs for adapters for tips
Intended use
The marking discs are used to visually distinguish the adapters for tips. This prevents instruments from being
accidentally screwed onto the wrong adapters and possibly damaging the thread.
The set includes 6 green, blue and yellow marking discs.

Application
1. Unscrew the adapter for tips from the adapter M8x1 concentric or
adapter M8x1 eccentric.
2. Slide the marking disc over the large thread of the adapter for tips.
3. Screw the adapter for tips together with the marking disc back onto
the adapter M8x1 eccentric.

Adapter installation
The following must be fulfilled or present:
üThe adapters for transmission instruments, hollow-body instruments or unused connections.
üOne new sealing washer, one new O-ring and screws for each adapter.
üOne TX6 screwdriver.
1. Loosen and remove the screws of the existing adapter.
2. Remove the adapter.
3. Remove the sealing washer and any residue from the seal. Be
careful not to scratch the sealing surface of the Carebox.
4. Insert the new sealing washer by aligning it with the notch and hole
pattern.
5. Insert the new O-ring into the adapter.
6. Insert the new adapter by aligning it with the notch.

7. Screw the adapter tight.
8. Carry out theCarebox test.
Instructions for installing and using the adapter for external spray channels
1. It is recommended to install the external spray channel adapter in
position 3 or 6 so that the external spray channels can be well
connected to the hoses.
2. Cut the silicone hose included in the scope of delivery to the
required length. The silicone hose may not sag, form loops or fit
too tight.
3. Push the silicone hose onto the adapter for external spray channels.
4. Plug the instrument onto the matching adapter.

5. Connect the silicone hose to the external spray channel.
Instructions on installing the adapter M8x1, eccentric
1. Screw the lower section of the adapter tight.
2. Check whether the O-ring is present in the upper part of the adapter
and insert it if necessary.
3. Screw the upper section onto the lower section.

4. Screw in the adapter for the instrument.
Instructions for installing the adapter for KaVo/BienAir contra angle heads
1. Plug the adapter for KaVo/BienAir contra angle heads onto an ISO
adapter.
2. Check that the adapter is firmly seated.
Instructions for installing the adapter for Midwest connection (4/5 hole)
1. Shut off the union nut of the adapter with its recess in a position that
allows access to the fixing screws.
2. Screw the adapter tight.
