6.4Installation for thefirsttime
Air andmoistureintherefrigerant systemhave
undesirableeffectsas below:
Pressureinthe systemrises.
Operatingcurrent rises.
Cooling or heatingefficiencydrops.
Moistureinthe refrigerantcircuit may
freezeand blockcapillarytubing.
Waterwhenmixedwiththerefrigerantandoil
will create anacid that will damagethemotor
windings and components inthe refrigerant
system.
Therefore, the indoor unitsand the pipes
between indoor and outdoor unitsmust be leak
tested and evacuated toremovegas and
moisturefromthe system.
Gas leakcheck(Soap water method):
Applysoap water or aliquidneutral
detergent on the indoor unit connections or
outdoor unit Connections withasoftbrush to
checkfor leakage ofthe connecting pointsof
the piping. Ifbubbles comeout, the pipeshave
leakage.
1.Airpurging withvacuumpump
1)Completelytighten the flarenutsofthe
indoor and outdoor units,confirmthat both
the 2-wayand 3-wayvalves areset tothe
Frontseated.
2) Connectthelowpressuregaugeto the3way
servicevalveaccess port..
3) Connectthemiddlehoseofthegauge
manifold (usuallyyellow)tothevacuum
pump.
4)Fullyopenthehandlefor thelowpressure
gauge..
5) Startthevacuumpumpandoperate according
to manufacturespec's.
6) Performanevacuationfor aminimumof30
minutes andcheck that thelowpressure
(compound)gaugeindicatesavacuumof29.9
in/hg (500 microns)Avacuumgaugeshould
beused ifavailable. Iftheproper vacuum
cannotbeachieved thevacuumpump should
berun for anadditional20minutes. Ifafterthe
additional 20 minutes thevacuumstill cannot
beachieved theis aleakinthesystem and
mustbelocated and repaired. followtheleak
checking procedureas mentioned before.If
thevacuumis achieved, closethelowpressure
gaugehandleoff and shutthevacuumpump
off. Recheckthereading after 10 minutes, the
vacuummaychangeslightly, this is normal.
7) Thesystem is nowdryandfree of
contaminates, refrigerantpressureshould
nowbeadded to thesystemfromasource
other thanthesystem beforeopening the2
wayand 3wayvalvesfor system operation.
8) The2wayand3wayvalvecannowbe
opened for thesystem operation
2.Airpurging byrefrigerant
Procedure:
1). Confirmthat boththe 2-wayand 3-way
valves areset tothe closedposition.
2). Withacontainer ofrefrigerantand agauge
manifold set,connectthelowpressuregaugehose

to the3wayvalveserviceport and acharging
cylinder tothe service portofthe 3-wayvalve.
3). Openthevalveontherefrigerantcontainerand
thelowpressuregaugetoallowtherefrigerantto
enter thesystem,nextloosentheflareconnection
onthe2wayvalvelineto purgetheair and
contaminants fromthesystem for 30to 50
seconds, thenretightentheconnection.
4). Nextallowthepressurefromtherefrigerantto
reach 100 psi and thenclosethelowpressure
gaugeand therefrigerantcontainer and checkthe
2wayand3wayvalvelineconnections for leaks
withliquid soap or electronicleakdetector.
5). After thesystem has beencheck for leaks the
pressureshould beadjustedtoabout25to50psi.
6). Youcannowdisconnectthegaugemanifold
and refrigerantcontainerfromthesystem and
openthe2wayand 3wayvalves for system
operation
7). Mount the valvestemsnutsand the service
port cap.
Besuretouseatorque wrench totightenthe
service port cap toatorque18N·m(13.27 ft.lbs).
Besuretocheckthe gas leakage.
6.5Addingtherefrigerantafterrunning
thesystemfor manyyears
Procedure
1). 1ststep;Connectthelowpressuregaugefrom
thegaugemanifold set to the3wayservicevalve
(this is thebluehoseonmostsets)2ndstep;
Connectthemiddlehosefromthemanifold set to
therefrigerantcontainer (this is theyellowlineon
mostsets). withrefrigerant410Athecontainer
mustbeinverted (upsidedown)whenadding the
refrigerant. Note that the2wayand 3wayvalves
mustbeintheopenposition.
3rd step;theair inthegaugehoses needsto be
purged out.usethepressurefromthesystem to
purgethelowsideline, loosentheconnectionon
themanifold for asecond,nextopentheto valve
ontherefrigerantcontainerto pressurizetheline,
nowloosenthat hoseat themanifold for asecond
and purgethat line.
3) Nextstep is to set therefrigerantcontainer on
anelectronicchargingscaleandrecord theweight
or zero thescaledependingonthescaleused.
Nextdeterminetherefrigerantchargeto be
added.
4) Starttheunitinthecoolingmodeandlowerthe
set pointso theunitwontshutoff during the
charging procedure.
5) Refrigerantcannowbeadded to thesystem,
openthelowpressurevalveonthegaugemanifold
set tostartchargingtheunitwithliquid refrigerant,
keep track oftherefrigerantbeing added to the
system (do notoverchargethesystem)
6). Oncethecorrectchargehasbeenaddedtothe
system closethelowpressurevalveonthegauge
manifold set andrecord theoperating pressure.
Thesystem is nowcharged and theunitcanbe
shutoff. Closethevalveontherefrigerant
container and disconnectthehosefromthe
manifold set, also disconnectthehosefromthe3
wayvalveand replaceandtorqueall caps.
7). Mount the valvestemcaps and the service
port
Use torque wrench totighten the serviceport
cap toatorque of18N.m(13.27 ft,lbs).
Alwaysleakcheck afterservicingtherefrigerant
system.
6.6 Procedurewhenservicingtheindoor
unitrefrigerationcircuit.
1. Pumping downthesystem(isolatingthe
refrigerantchargeinthe condensingunit)

Procedure
1). Withtheunitinthecoolingmodeandalowset
pointremoveall caps fromthe3wayand2way
valves, nextattachthelowpressuregaugetothe3
wayservicevalveportandpurgetheair fromthat
hosebyloosening thehoseat themanifold for a
second, besurethelowpressuregaugevalveis
closed. be suretorecord theoperating
pressure,youwill need toknowthis whenyou
complete theserviceontheindoor unitandrestart
thesystem.Nowprepareto closebothvalves on
theunitstartingwiththe2wayvalve(this iscalled
frontseatingthevalve) also prepareto shutthe
power off to theoutdoor unit.
2). Connect the chargehose withthe pushpin
ofhandlelotothe 3-wayvalves gas service
port.
3). Air purging ofthe charge hose.
Open the handleLo valveofthe manifoldvalve
slightlytopurge air fromthe chargehosefor 5
seconds andthen closeit quickly.
4). Nowclosethe2wayvalveandmonitor thelow
pressuregauge. thepressurewill startto drop.
5). Operate theunitinthecooling modeand

name plate FLArating indicates 0.1Mpa(14.5Psi).
6). Nowclosethe3wayvalverightaway. the
pressurewill riseduring this time, this is normal.
Therewill besome pressureleftinthesystem this
is normal, Theindoor unitis nowreadyto be
serviced.
Disconnect the charge set, and tighten the
2-wayand 3-wayvalve’sstemnuts.
Use atorquewrench totighten the 3-wayvalves
service port cap toatorqueof18N.m(=13.27
ft.lbs).
Besuretocheckfor gas leakage.
2. Sweeping (air purging)thesystem with
refrigerantafterthe servicetothe
refrigerantcircuitoftheindoorunitis
complete.
Procedure:
Sweepingthesystem canbeusedwhentheunit
hasbeenpumpeddown,this eliminatestheneed
toloosentheflareconnectiononthe2wayvalve
(looseningandretighteningflareconnections
could causearefrigerantleak)
1). Confirmthat boththe 2-wayand 3-way
valves areset tothe closedposition.
2). Connect the chargeset and acharging
cylinder tothe service portofthe 3-wayvalve
Leavethe valveon the Refrigerantcontainer.
3). Do notloosentheflareconnection, Startwith
thehosefromthelowpressuregaugethat has
beenconnected to the3wayvalveserviceport
and loosenitat thegaugemanifold connection,
nextopenthe2wayvalve1/2halfofaturn(this
will releasetherefrigerantthat hasbeenisolatedin
theoutdoor unit) Therefrigerantwill travel thru
thesmall refrigerantlineandevaporator coil inthe
indoor unitand back outthelowpressurehose
that has beenloosened let therefrigerantsweep
for about50 seconds, this will pushand remove

any air moistureand noncodensables fromthe
refrigerationcircuit. After 50seconds has passed
tightenthehoseonthelowpressuregauge.The
sweep is nowcomplete.
Nextstep, openthe2wayvalveall thewaythen
the3wayvalveall thewayand check for leaks.
4). Nextstep, Starttheunitinthecooling mode
and check thepressure(remember thepressure
yourecorded?)Theunitisgoing to belowon
refrigerantfromthesweeping process, add
refrigerantas needed fromtherefrigerant
container intheliquid state to achievethe
operatingpressurethat yourecorded.Theprocess
is nowcomplete.
Checkthe flareconnections for gas leakage.
5). Dischargethe refrigerant.
Close the valveon the chargingcylinder and
dischargethe refrigerant by loosening the flare
nut on the 2-wayvalveapproximately45’until
the gaugeindicates 0.3Mpa(43.5Psi) to0.5
Mpa(72.5Psi).
6). Disconnect the charge set and the charging
cylinder, and set the 2-way and 3-wayvalves to
the open position
Besuretouseahexagonalwrench tooperate
the valvestems.
7). Mount the valvestemsnutsand the service
port cap
Besuretouseatorque wrench totightenthe
service port cap toatorque18N.m.
Besuretocheckthe gas leakage.
6.7 Evacuationafterservicingtheoutdoor
unitrefrigerationcircuit.
1. Evacuationofthecompleterefrigeration
circuit,Indoorandoutdoorunit.
Procedure:
1). Confirmthatboththe2-wayand 3-way
valves areset tothe opened position.
2). Connect the vacuumpumpto3-wayvalve’s
service port.
3). Evacuationfor approximatelyone hour.
Confirmthat the compoundmeterindicates
-0.1Mpa(14.5Psi), 500 Microns /29.9in,hg.
4). Close the valve(Low side) on thechargeset,
turnoffthe vacuumpump,and confirmthat the
gaugeneedledoesnot move(approximately5
minutesafter turning offthevacuumpump).
5). Disconnect the charge hose fromthe
vacuumpump.
2. Refrigerant charging
Procedure:
1). Connect the chargehose tothe charging
cylinder, open the 2-wayvalveand the 3-way
valve
Connect the charge hose which you
disconnected fromthe vacuumpumptothe
valveat the bottomofthe cylinder. Ifthe
refrigerant isR410A, make the cylinder bottom
up toensureliquidcharge.
2). Purge the air fromthe charge hose
Open the valveat the bottomofthe cylinder
and pressthe checkvalveon the chargeset to
purge the air (be carefulofthe liquid
refrigerant).
3) Put the chargingcylinder ontothe electronic
scaleand recordthe weight.
4). Open the valves (Low side) onthe charge
setand charge the systemwithliquidrefrigerant
Ifthe systemcannot be charge withthe
specifiedamount ofrefrigerant, or can be

chargedwithalittleat atime(approximately
150g each time) , operatingthe air conditioner
inthe cooling cycle; however, one timeisnot
sufficient, wait approximately1minuteand then
repeat the procedure.
5).When the electronicscaledisplaysthe
proper weight, disconnectthe charge hose from
the 3-wayvalve’sservice port immediately
Ifthe systemhasbeencharged withliquid
refrigerant whileoperatingthe air conditioner,
turnoffthe air conditionerbeforedisconnecting
the hose.
6). Mounted the valvestemcaps andthe
service port. Use torque wrench totightenthe
service port cap toatorqueof18N.m. Besure
tocheckfor gas leakage.
