Disposal of the pac ing material
The transport and protective packing
has been selected from materials which
are environmentally friendly for disposal
and can normally be recycled.
Ensure that any plastic wrappings,
bags etc. are disposed safely and kept
out of the reach of babies and young
children. Danger of suffocation!
Rather than just throwing these materi-
als away, please ensure that they are
recycled.
Disposal of your old appliance
Old appliances contain materials which
can be reclaimed or recycled. Please
contact your dealer, your local waste
collection centre or scrap merchant
about potential recycling schemes.
Ensure that the appliance presents no
danger to children while being stored
for disposal.
See the appropriate section in the
Warning and safety instructions.
Caring for the environment

This appliance conforms to current
safety requirements. Incorrect use
can lead to injury and damage to the
appliance.
Before installation and before using
for the first time read the operating
instructions carefully. They contain
important information on safety, in-
stallation, use and maintenance of
the appliance. This way you will
avoid the risk of accidents and dam-
age to the appliance.
Keep these operating instructions in
a safe place and pass them on to
any future user.
Correct usage
The appliance is intended for do-
mestic use only.
The manufacturer cannot be held re-
sponsible for damage caused by im-
proper use of the appliance.
Technical safety
Before connecting the appliance to
the mains supply make sure that
the voltage and frequency correspond
to the rating on the data plate, other-
wise the appliance could be damaged
(see "Electrical connection").
If in any doubt consult a qualified elec-
trician.
The electrical safety of this appli-
ance can only be guaranteed when
continuity is complete between the ap-
pliance and an effective earthing sys-
tem which complies with local and na-
tional regulations. It is most important
that this basic safety requirement is
tested by a qualified electrician. The
manufacturer cannot be held responsi-
ble for the consequences of an inade-
quate earthing system (e.g. electric
shock).
Installation work and repairs may
only be carried out by suitably
qualified and competent persons to en-
sure safety. Repairs and other work by
unqualified persons could be danger-
ous and the manufacturer will not be
held responsible.
A damaged connection cable must
only be replaced by an approved
and suitably qualified technician.

This equipment is not designed for
maritime use or for use in mobile
installations such as caravans, aircraft
etc. However it may be suitable for
such usage subject to a risk assess-
ment of the installation being carried
out by a suitably qualified engineer.
The appliance is only completely
isolated from the electricity supply
when:
–it is switched off at the wall socket
and the plug removed.
(do not pull on the cable, only on the
plug) or
– the fuse from the fused spur connec-
tion unit is withdrawn, or
– the mains fuse is withdrawn, or
– the screw-out fuse is removed in
countries where this is applicable.
Do not use an extension lead to
connect the appliance to the mains
electricity supply.
Extension leads do not guarantee the
required safety of the appliance, (e.g.
danger of overheating).
In countries where there are areas
which may be subject to infestation
by cockroaches or other vermin, pay
particular attention to keeping the
appliance and its surroundings in a
clean condition at all times. Any
damage which may be caused by
cockroaches or other vermin will not
be covered by the appliance guar-
antee.
Use
Never use an open flame beneath
the cooker hood. To avoid the dan-
ger of fire, do not flambé or grill over an
open flame.
When switched on, the cooker hood
could draw flames into the filter. Fat
particles drawn into the cooker hood
present a fire hazard.
When using the cooker hood over
a gas hob ensure that any burners
in use are always covered by a pan.
Otherwise flames could be drawn up by
the suction of the cooker hood, parts of
which could then be damaged.
Always switch the cooker hood on
when using the hob, otherwise
condensation may collect in the hood
which could cause corrosion.
When cooking with oil or fat, chip
pans and deep fat fryers etc, do
not leave the pans unattended. Never
leave an open grill unattended when
grilling.
Overheated oil and fat can ignite and
could set the cooker hood on fire.
Do not use the cooker hood without
the grease filter in place.
This way you will avoid the risk of
grease and dirt getting into the appli-
ance and hindering its smooth opera-
tion.
Clean or change the filters regu-
larly.
An over saturated filter is a fire
hazard. (See "Cleaning and care").

Under no circumstances use a
steam cleaner to clean this appli-
ance.
Pressurised steam could reach the
electrical components and cause a
short circuit.
Installation
The distance between the top of
the cooker/hob and the bottom of
the cooker hood must measure at least:
– 450 mm above an electric hob or
cooker,
– 650 above a gas hob or cooker,
– 650 mm above an open grill from
our range
For non-Miele cooking appliances
maintain the safety distance as recom-
mended by the manufacturer in their In-
stallation and Operating instructions.
If more than one appliance is fitted be-
neath the cooker hood and they have
different minimum safety distances to
the cooker hood, select the higher dis-
tance.
Safety regulations prohibit the fit-
ting of a cooker hood over solid
fuel stoves.
All ducting, pipework and fittings
must be of non-flammable material.
These can be obtained from the Miele
Spare Parts department or from build-
ers' merchants.
The appliance must not be con-
nected to a chimney or vent flue
which is in use. Neither should it be
connected to ducting which ventilates
rooms with fireplaces.
If exhaust air is to be extracted into
a chimney or ventilation duct no
longer used for other purposes, seek
professional advice.

When using the cooker hood at the
same time as another heating ap-
pliance which depends on the air in the
room, (e.g. gas, oil or coal fired heaters,
continuous flow or other water heaters,
gas cooker, gas hob or gas oven) spe-
cial care must be taken, as the action of
the cooker hood extracts air from the
room, which these types of heater need
for combustion.
They could also draw exhaust air back
in from chimneys or ducting in contra-
vention of fire safety regulations.
In order to ensure safe operation, and
to prevent gases given off by the heat-
ing appliances from being drawn back
into the room when the extractor and
the heater are in operation simulta-
neously, an underpressure in the room
of 0.04 mbar (4 pa) is the maximum
permissible.
Ventilation can be maintained by air in-
lets which cannot be blocked, in win-
dows, doors and outside wall vents, or
by other technical measures, such as
ensuring that the extractor can only be
switched on when the heating appli-
ance is switched off or vice-versa.
N.B: The overall ventilation condition of
the dwelling must be taken into ac-
count. If in any doubt, the advice of a
competent builder or, for gas, a "Corgi"
installer must be sought.
If the cooker hood is operated in
recirculation mode the above
restrictions do not apply.
Appliances with external fans
For appliances with an external fan
motor fitted (EXT models) the con-
nection of the two units must be made
using the connection cable and the
plug connectors.
Make sure the correct combination of
the two appliances has been selected.
Disposal of your old appliance
Before discarding an old appliance
switch off and disconnect it from
the power supply. Cut off and render
any plug useless. Cut off the cable di-
rectly behind the appliance to prevent
misuse.
This should be done by a competent
person.
The manufacturer cannot be held lia-
ble for damage caused by non-com-
pliance with these Warning and
Safety instructions.

nTouch control for
the active charcoal filter
The indicator lamp for the active char-
coal filter touch control lights up when
the active charcoal filter used in
recirculation mode needs to be re-
placed.
The touch control is used:
–to reset the operating hours counter
after replacing the active charcoal fil-
ter (see "Cleaning and Care").
–to show how long the filter has been
in use (see "Operation / Filter operat-
ing hours counter").
–to alter the number of hours counted
by the filter operating hours counter
(see "Operation / Altering the filter
operating hours counter").

The cooker hood works with
. . . air extraction
The air is drawn in and cleaned by the
grease filters and then directed outside.
If the on-site ventilation system does
not have a non-return flap the
non-return flap supplied must be fit-
ted.
This flap is closed when the cooker
hood is switched off. No exchange of
room air and outside air can take place.
When the cooker hood is switched on,
the non-return flap opens for the cook-
ing smells to be blown directly outside.
. . . air recirculation
The air is drawn in and cleaned first by
the grease filter and then by an active
charcoal filter. The cleaned air is then
recirculated back into the kitchen
through vents in the top of the cooker
hood extension piece.
Before using the cooker hood for the
first time, ensure that the active
charcoal filter is in place, see sec-
tion on "Cleaning and care".
. . . an external fan
The EXT models are designed to be
connected to an external fan located
outside the room.
The external fan is connected to the
cooker hood by means of a control ca-
ble and is operated by the control
panel on the cooker hood.
Brief description

Main switch
Switch the main switch to "I". The fan
and the lighting can now be operated.
If the appliance is not going to be used
for a longer period of time (e.g. whilst
on holiday) switch the appliance off by
turning the main switch to "0".
The next time it is switched on the
cooker hood will operate at the level
previously used.
To operate the main switch the stainless
steel filter must first be removed (see
"Cleaning and Care").
To switch the fan on
^Press the On/Off touch control.
The fan runs at power level "lI".
The indicator lamp for the touch control
comes on.
Selecting the power level
^Use the –/+controls to select the
power level required.
Touch control += higher setting
Touch control –= lower setting
Depending on the intensity of cooking
vapours, levels "I" to "III" (green indica-
tor lamps) are usually sufficient for nor-
mal cooking.
Intensive setting
When frying or cooking food with a
strong aroma you may wish to select
the Intensive setting (yellow indicator
lamp) for a short period.
Run-on option
If the air still needs to be cleared after
cooking, the cooker hood can be set to
continue running.
The fan is switched off automatically af-
ter either 5 or 15 minutes.
^Press the run-on option touch control
whilst the fan is still running.
Press once = The fan switches off
after 5 minutes.
(left hand indicator lamp)
Press twice = The fan switches off
after 15 minutes.
(right hand indicator lamp)
To switch the run-on option off, press
the run-on option touch control again.

To switch the fan off
^Use the On/Off touch control to
switch the fan off.
The indicator lamp for the control goes
out.
To switch the lighting on
The hob lighting can be switched on
and off independently of the fan.
^Briefly press the lighting touch control
to switch on the hob lighting.
The indicator lamp for the touch control
comes on.
The lighting will come on at maximum
brightness.
To dim the lighting
The brightness of the lighting can be
dimmed.
^With the lighting switched on press
and hold the hob lighting control in.
The brightness will gradually dim until
you release the control.
^Press the control in again to increase
the brightness to the level required
and then release it.
If you keep the control pressed in, the
brightness will continually go brighter
and then dimmer.
To switch the lighting off
^Briefly press the hob lighting control
to switch the lighting off.
The indicator lamp for the control goes
out.
Safety cut-out
Should the cooker hood have been left
switched on, the fan will switch off auto-
matically after 10 hours. The lighting re-
mains on.
^Pressing the On/Off touch control will
switch the fan back on again.

Filter operating hours counter
The number of hours the appliance has
been in operation is stored in memory.
The indicator lamp for the grease filter
control will light up after 30 hours of op-
eration. The grease filter must then be
cleaned.
The filter operating hours counter must
be re-set.
^To do this, press the grease filter
touch control and hold for about
3 seconds.
The indicator lamp will go out.
With recirculation mode:
For recirculation mode the operating
hours counter needs to be set to the re-
quired time:
The indicator lamp for the active char-
coal filter control will light up after the
cooker hood has operated for the num-
ber of hours set. The active charcoal
filter must then be replaced with a new
one.
The filter operating hours counter must
be re-set.
^Press the active charcoal filter touch
control for about 3 seconds.
The indicator lamp will go out.
Reading the filter operating hours
counter
To check the percentage of time set al-
ready used:
^Use the On/Off touch control to
switch the fan on.
^Press the grease filter / active char-
coal filter touch control.
One or several of the indicator lamps
for the –/+touch controls will flash.
The number of flashing lamps shows
the percentage of the operating time
which has already been used up.
1 lamp = 25 %
2 lamps = 50 %
3 lamps = 75 %
4 lamps = 100 %
The number of operating hours used re-
mains in the memory, even when the
appliance is switched off or there is a
power cut.

Altering the filter operating hours
counter
You can set the operating hours coun-
ter to suit the type of cooking you do.
–Select a short time if you roast or fry
a lot.
–If you use very little fat for cooking,
select a longer time.
–If you only cook occasionally we rec-
ommend that you select a short time
because grease which has built up
gradually over a long period of time
will harden on the grease filters and
make cleaning more difficult.
Altering the grease filter operating
hours counter
The operating hours counter for the
grease filter is set to 30 hours. This can
be lengthened or shortened. You can
choose from 20, 30, 40 or 50 hours.
^Use the On/Off touch control to
switch the fan off.
^Press the run-on option touch control
and the grease filter touch control at
the same time.
The indicator lamp for the grease filter
touch control and one of the –/+touch
control lamps will flash.
The –/+touch control lamps show the
time which has been set:
1st lamp from the left = 20 hours
2nd lamp from the left = 30 hours
3rd lamp from the left = 40 hours
4th lamp from the left = 50 hours
^Use the –/+touch controls to select
the desired time.
^Confirm the selection by pressing the
grease filter touch control.
If the procedure is not confirmed
within 4 minutes of programming the
steps, the cooker hood will automati-
cally revert to the "old" data.

Setting/altering the active charcoal
filter operating hours counter
The active charcoal filter is needed for
recirculation mode.
The cooker hood is set at the factory for
extraction mode. On delivery the oper-
ating hours counter for the active char-
coal filter is set to unlimited.
For recirculation mode the operating
hours counter needs to be set to the re-
quired time:
^Use the On/Off touch control to
switch the fan off.
^Press the run-on option touch control
and the active charcoal filter touch
control at the same time.
The indicator lamp for the active char-
coal filter touch control and one of the
lamps for the –/+touch controls will
flash.
The –/+touch control lamps show the
time which has been set:
1st lamp from left = 120 hours
2nd lamp from left = 180 hours
3rd lamp from left = 240 hours
4th lamp from left = unlimited
^Use the –/+touch controls to select
the desired time.
^Confirm the procedure by pressing
the active charcoal filter touch con-
trol.
If the procedure is not confirmed
within 4 minutes of programming the
steps, the cooker hood will automati-
cally revert to the "old" data.

Before any cleaning or maintenance
work disconnect the cooker hood
from the mains supply. Ensure that:
– it is switched off at the wall socket
and the plug has been withdrawn
(do not pull on the cable, only on the
plug), or
– the fuse has been withdrawn from
the fused spur connection unit, or
– the mains fuse is withdrawn, or
– the screw-out fuse is removed (in
countries where this is applicable).
Housing
General notes
Warning: The surfaces and controls
are susceptible to scratches and
abrasion. Please observe the follow-
ing cleaning instructions:
^All external surfaces and controls can
be cleaned using warm water with a
little washing up liquid applied with a
well wrung out soft sponge or cloth.
^Wipe dry using a soft cloth.
Do not use too much water when
cleaning the controls. Water could
penetrate into the electronics and
cause damage.
Please observe the instructions below
for cleaning stainless steel, aluminium
and glass surfaces.
E-Cloth
A microfibre "E-Cloth" is available from
the Miele UK Spare Parts Department,
Part number 98013530, which is suit-
able for cleaning surfaces such as
stainless steel, glass, plastic and
chrome without the use of chemicals.
If you are unsure about a particular
product or need further advice
please contact your nearest Miele
Sales office. See back page for ad-
dress.
Important for appliances with a
stainless steel housing:
Stainless steel surfaces can be cleaned
using a proprietary non-abrasive clean-
ing agent designed specifically for use
on stainless steel.
Avoid:
–cleaning agents containing soda, ac-
ids or chlorides,
–abrasive cleaning agents e.g. pow-
der cleaners or cream cleaners
–abrasive sponges, e.g. pot scourers
or sponges which have been previ-
ously used with abrasive cleaning
agents. These will damage the sur-
face material.
To help prevent re-soiling, proprietary
conditioning agents for stainless steel
can also be used.
Apply sparingly with an even pressure.
Cleaning and care

Important for appliances with an
aluminium housing:
Aluminium is affected by the way that
light falls on it, by the surrounding envi-
ronment and by the angle you observe
it from.
Aluminium surfaces and controls
may suffer discolouration or damage
if soiling is left on them for too long.
Remove any soiling straight away.
Observe the "General notes" on clean-
ing earlier in this section.
Avoid:
– cleaning agents containing soda, ac-
ids or chlorides,
– abrasive cleaning agents, e.g. pow-
der cleaners and cream cleaners.
– abrasive sponges, e.g. pot scourers
or sponges which have been previ-
ously used with abrasive cleaning
agents,
–stainless steel cleaners,
–cleaning agents containing
descaling agents,
–dishwasher detergent,
–oven sprays.
Controls
The controls may suffer discolour-
ation or damage if soiling is left on
them for too long.
Remove any soiling straight away.
Observe the "General notes" on clean-
ing earlier in this section.
Do not use stainless steel cleaning
agents on the controls.
Glass surfaces
^Glass surfaces can be cleaned using
a proprietary non-abrasive cleaning
agent designed specifically for use
on glass.
Avoid:
– abrasive cleaning agents, e.g. pow-
der cleaners and cream cleaners.
–abrasive sponges, e.g. pot scourers
or sponges which have been previ-
ously used with abrasive cleaning
agents,
–oven sprays.
Cleaning and care

Grease filter
The re-usable metal grease filter in the
appliance removes solid particles from
the kitchen vapours (grease, dust, etc)
preventing soiling of the cooker hood.
The grease filter is located in the chim-
ney casing above the stainless steel fil-
ter.
The grease filter should be cleaned
regularly (at least every 3-4 weeks) to
avoid a built-up of fat but always clean
as soon as the grease filter touch con-
trol lamp comes on.
An over saturated filter is a fire haz-
ard.
Remove the stainless steel filter
^To remove the stainless steel filter
pull down on the quick-release
catches. When doing this, hold the fil-
ter securely so that it does not fall on
the hob surface below.
^Remove the stainless steel filter.
Remove the grease filter
^To remove the grease filter pull it by
the hand hold and pull downwards.
Take care not to let the grease filter
fall onto the hob.
Cleaning and care

^Clean the filter
–by hand: with a nylon brush, warm
water with a little washing up liquid.
–in a dishwasher: place the filter
with the short side upright in the
lower basket, ensuring the spray arm
is not obstructed.
Note: some dishwasher detergents
may cause the surface of the metal
grease filter to discolour.
However, this will not affect the func-
tioning of the grease filter in any
way.
^After cleaning leave the filter to dry
for a while on an absorbent surface
before putting it back in place.
^When cleaning the stainless steel fil-
ter please also follow the cleaning in-
structions given for the housing.
^When removing the filters for clean-
ing also clean off any residues of oil
or fat from the now accessible hous-
ing to prevent the risk of these catch-
ing fire.
^After replacing the grease filter, press
the grease filter touch control for
approx. 3 seconds to re-set the oper-
ating hours counter.
The indicator lamp will go out.
^If the grease filter is cleaned before
the operating hours counter has
reached its maximum, the grease fil-
ter touch control should be pressed
for approx. 6 seconds to reset the
counter to zero.
Replace the grease filter
^Holding the grease filter at an angle
fit it into the front of the chimney and
then push it into position along the
front edge.
^Then push it up into position at the
back making sure it clicks into posi-
tion at both sides.
Replace the stainless steel filter
^Fit the stainless steel filter into the ap-
pliance so that it hooks into the re-
tainers at the back, then push it up-
wards at the front and make sure it

Fitting / replacing the active
charcoal filter
If the cooker hood is connected for
recirculation, an active charcoal filter
must be inserted in addition to the
grease filter. It is designed to absorb
cooking odours.
It is fitted in the chimney above the
grease filter.
Active charcoal filters can be ob-
tained from your dealer or the Miele
Spare Parts Department.
Refer to the section "Technical data"
for type and reference number.
^Before fitting or replacing the active
charcoal filter, the stainless steel filter
and the grease filter must first be
taken out, (see previous section for
instructions on how to do this).
^When fitting for the first time:
A guide is installed for extraction
mode which has to be removed for
recirculation mode.
Slightly loosen the two screws on this
guide and pull it off.
^To remove the charcoal filter pull
down on the tab at the back of the fil-
ter.
^Take the new filter out of its packag-
ing.
^Fit the filter into the front of the chim-
ney and push it upwards at the back
and press it firmly into position.
^Replace the grease filter and the
stainless steel filter.
When fitting for the first time:
^Set the operating hours counter to
suit your requirements, (see "Opera-
tion – Setting / Altering the filter oper-
ating hours counter").
