Thisguidewillshowhowtousethebuiltinsystemdiagnosticstoolandwillgooverhowtofix
someofthemostcommonissues.
8XTREMEPLUShasanintegratedsystemdiagnosticsprogramnamedOCTOTESTfor
checkinghealthforvarioussystemdevices,including:powersupplytelemetry,fan
speeds/PWM,systemtemperatures,humidityandairpressure.
Thesystemdiagnosticstool“OCTOTEST”hasbeenpreloadedontheSSDthesystem
shipswith.WheninstallinganewoperatingsystemtoyourX8,itisrecommendedto
eitheruseadifferentSSDortomakeacopyoftheoneprovidedbyMINERDUDE.
1.Holdthedownarrowonthekeyboarduntilyougettothebootselection.
2.SelectOCTOTESTfromthebootselectionandpressenter.
3.Choosethecorrecttestoptionbytypingthenumbercorrespondindtoyoursystem

8XTREMEPLUShasanintegratedsystemdiagnosticsmodeforsystemhealth
monitoring.OCTOTESThasbeenbuilttoverifythatthesystemisrunningnominally
andtopinpointissueswithanerrorcodeonthemonitor.Thistroubleshootingguide
willgothroughtheerrormessagesandhelpyoufixtheseissues.
Toenterthesystemdiagnosticswaitforthesystemtoinitialize.Thesystemwill
rebootseveraltimesatfirst,waituntilthesystembioshasinitialized.
TotestthefansmakesureyouhavetheoriginalSSDthatshippedwiththesystem.

Forexample,forasystemwith2powersuppliesyouwouldselecttheoption:

Issue:TherightmostfanhasPWMissues.Theissuemightbealooseconnector
adefectivefan,somethingblockingtheairflow,oratemporaryissuewiththetestmode.
Solution::Re-runthetestmode.Iftheresultisthesamethenmakesuretheconnector
labeledas“FAN0”onthediagramisfirmlyattached.
TEST FAILS WITH THE FOLLOWING
ERROR MESSAGE:
FAN 0 MAX RPM <4200 FAN 0 50% PWM >3500
Issue:ThesecondfanfromtherighthasPWMissues.Theissuemightbealooseconnector
adefectivefan,somethingblockingtheairflow,oratemporaryissuewiththetestmode.
Solution:Re-runthetestmode.Iftheresultisthesamethenmakesuretheconnector
labeledas“FAN2”onthediagramisfirmlyattached.
FAN 2 MAX RPM <4200 FAN 2 50% PWM >3500
Issue:ThethirdfanfromtherighthasPWMissues.Theissuemightbealooseconnector
adefectivefan,somethingblockingtheairflow,oratemporaryissuewiththetestmode.
Solution:Re-runthetestmode.Iftheresultisthesamethenmakesuretheconnector
labeledas“FAN4”onthediagramisfirmlyattached.
FAN 4 MAX RPM <4200 FAN 4 50% PWM >3500
Issue:ThefourthfanfromtherighthasPWMissues.Theissuemightbealooseconnector
adefectivefan,somethingblockingtheairflow,oratemporaryissuewiththetestmode.
Solution:Re-runthetestmode.Iftheresultisthesamethenmakesuretheconnector
labeledas“FAN6”onthediagramisfirmlyattached.

BUILT IN DISPLAY DOESN’T WORK/ BLUE LED
BLINKS SLOWLY.
NO VIDEO FROM FRONT PANEL VGA
Herearesomeofthetroubleshootingstepstofixanissueinthecaseofamalfunctioningor
nonfunctioningdisplay.
CheckthattheVGAconnectorlabeledontheschematicsinredissecurelyconnectedtothe
motherboardandthesystemcontroller.
CLEAR CMOS BUTTON NOT WORKING
CheckthattheclearCMOSconnectorlabeledontheschematicsinpurpleissecurely
connectedtothemotherboardandthesystemcontroller.
1.MakesurethatthepowersuppliesturnonatthesametimefromaPDU(PowerDelivery
Unit)Plugginginthepowersuppliesoneatatimemayinterferewiththenormalfunctioning
ofthesystemscontroller.
2.MakesurethatthegreenLEDonthepowersuppliesisworking.Ifthelightisnotturned
on,trytakingapowersupplyfromadifferentslotandseeiftheLEDturnsonandthatthe
testmodeisworking.Ifthisisthecasethentheissueismostlikelywiththepowersupply.
However,ifafterswappingtheworkingpowersupplyitalsodoesn’tlightuptheLED,then
theissueiswiththepowersupplybackplane.Inspectthepinsofthebackplanetoseeifanyof
themarebent.
3.Makesurethatthe4-pincableisfirmlyconnectedtothedisplay.
IF NONE OF THE FANS ARE WORKING
MakesurethatthePCIEpowercableisfirmlyconnectedtothesystems
controllerandthepowersupplybackplane.Checkfor“PSU”labeledinblue
inthegraphiconthenextpage.

POWER DELIVERY SYSTEM,POWER SUPPLIES,
COMPATIBLE CABLES AND PDU
MINDERDUDEX12andX8comewithvariousconfigurationsofpowersuppliesranging
fromonetofourunitswithratingsrangingfrom460Wupto1800Wperunit.Verifythe
specificationofyourpowersupplyandcalculatetheratingbasedonyourmainsvoltageas
110-250voutputhasdifferentwattageratings.Thesystemconsumesupto200Wat100%
fanspeed.Leaveatleast10%powersurplusforoptimaloperation.
Theaccessoriesincludeapowersplittercable.TheC13endsaremeanttobepluggedinto
thepowersupplies.Ontheotherendyou'llfindaC20inletthatiscompatiblewithproperly
ratedcablesandPDU's(PowerDeliveryUnit).
C20inletsareratedat16A/250VACinternationaland20A/250VACNorthAmerica
whereasC13isratedat15A/250VinNorthAmericaandinternationalat10A/250V.
DuetothehigherratingoftheC20inlet,aproperlyratedcableandPDUcombination
mustbeused.Ifsuchapowerdeliveryoptionisnotavailabletoyouitispossibletouse
individualC13cablesforeachofthepowersupplies.
RefurbishedserverpowersuppliesprovidedbyMINERDUDEandtestedinstresstest
cabinetsbeforetheygetinstalledinyourmachine.Inadditiontostresstesting,theoutput
voltagesaremeasuredtobewithinoptimalrange.Howeverhereareafewtipstopinpointif
youarehavinganyissueswithyourpowerdelivery.
Makesureyourgraphicscardspowerrequirementsdon'texceedtheratedoutputofthe
powersupplies.Poweroutputofthepowersuppliesisdependentonthesuppliedinput
voltage.CheckthelabelonthepowersupplytomatchyourACvoltagetotheoutputrating
andadd200Wforthesystemrunningwithfansat100%.It'sstronglyrecommendedtonot
runyoursystemover90%ofthemaximumpoweroutput.
Checkthatthe6-pincablelabeledasPSONisfirmlyconnectedonthemotherboard
andPSUbackplane.
MakesureeachpowersupplyisinsertedproperlyandthestatusLEDisworking.
IfthesystemkeepscrashingremoveallbutonepowersupplyandremoveallbutoneGPU.
Ifstillfacingthesameissuereplacethatsinglepowersupplyandreplacethegraphicscard
withadifferentone.
ReseatRAMintoanotherslot,makesureit'sproperlyseated.
UnplugthesystemscontrollerPCIecable,disablingthefans.
TROUBLESHOOTING POWER DELIVERY

THE SYSTEM DOESN’T TURN ON
Checkthatthe6-pincablelabeledasPSONisfirmlyconnectedonthemotherboard
andPSUbackplane.

SYSTEM CONTROLLER
Issue:Thetemperaturesensorlocatedatthelower-centerofthefrontofthemachineisnot
reportingthecorrecttemperature.
Solution:Makesuretheconnectorlabeledinlightgreenas“BME0”onthediagramisfirmly
attached.
BME 0 OUT OF RANGE
Issue:Thetemperaturesensorlocatedattherearofthemachineisnotreportingthecorrect
temperature.
Solution:Makesuretheconnectorlabeledindarkblueas“TEMP1”onthediagramisfirmly
attached.
TEMP 1 OUT OF RANGE
Issue:Thesystemscontrollercan’tcommunicatewiththepowersupply,thepowersupplyis
notfirmlyconnected,thepowercableisbrokenorthepowerdeliveryunitdoesn’twork.
Solution:Makesuretheconnectorlabeledonthediagramaboveinblueas“PSU”
onthesystemscontrollerisfirmlyattached.
PSU AC OUT OF RANGE
Makesuretheotherendofthecableissecurelyattatchedtothepowersupplybackplane
shownonthediagrambelow.

Issue:Thesystemscontrollercan’tcommunicatewiththepowersupply,thepowersupplyis
notfirmlyconnected,thepowerbackplanehasabentpinorthepowersupplyisnot
functional.
Solution:Makesuretheconnectorlabeledonthediagramaboveinblueas“PSU”
onthesystemscontrollerisfirmlyattached.
Makesuretheotherendofthecableissecurelyattatchedtothepowersupplybackplane
shownonthediagrambelow.
PSU DC OUT OF RANGE
SomeissuescannotbedisplayedthroughthesystemscontrollerTestmode,The
followingissuesthatmighthappenare:
OTHER ISSUES WITH THE FRONT PANEL:
NO IMAGE DISPLAYED ON THE STATUS DISPLAY.
Thisissuecanoccurwhenthedisplaycablehascomeloose.Makesurethatthe
connectorlabeledinmintgreenas“7”isfirmlyconnectedonboththeoledpanelbelow
thesystemscontroller,aswellasonthesystemscontrolleritself.
THE USB ON THE FRONT PANEL IS NOT WORKING.
ThisissueismostlikelyrelatedtotheBlackUSBcablebetweenthemotherboardand
thesystemscontroller.MakesurethecableLabeledingreenas“USB”isfirmly
connected.
THE RESET AND POWER BUTTON ARE NOT WORKING.
Thisissueiscausedbythepowerheadercablebeinglooseordamaged.Makesurethe
redtippedcablelabeledinredas“3”isfirmlyconnectedonthemotherboardaswellas
onthesystemsconnector.
THE MONITOR WILL NOT DISPLAY A PICTURE.
Thisissuecanbecausedbyseveralfactors.First,checkthattheVGAcableis
firmlyconnectedonboththemotherboardandthemonitor.
THE MACHINE CAN’T CONNECT TO THE INTERNET.
Aftermakingsuretheethernetcableworks,proceedtocheckingifthegrayethernet
cablelabeledingrayas“6”isfirmlyconnectedonboththemotherboardandthesystems
controller.Ifthisdoesn’tsolvetheissueseeiftheportontherearofthemachineworks.
