.1.1. Intended use & permitted load
Your Saigon is designed for city usage and to
carry one person on paved or asphalt roads in
relatively flat areas. The total permitted load
on the bicycle is 125kg including the cyclist,
the accessories and luggage.

The Saigon is not designed for the following:
• Racing or competition purposes
• Cycling in heavy rain or flooded areas
• Off-road cycling or any rough/partially rough terrain
• Charging the bike outdoors in wet or excessively hot
condition
• Cleaning the bike using highly pressurized water jets
(anything above 6000 PSI)
The intended use is further limited by:
• The safety instruction in this user manual
• The “Technical Specifications” chapter in this manual
• The specific road traffic regulations of the country of
operation
Use of the vehicle is not recommended for the following:
• People with limited physical, sensory or mental abilities
• People who cannot operate the vehicle safety due to their
height or weight
• Any modifications that increase motor performance such
as increasing the maximum assistance speed. This may
put your safety at risk which may result in regulatory or
criminal consequences.
This electrical bicycle accelerates faster than a bicycle.
Always bear in mind that other road users cannot anticipate
your acceleration capacity.
It is highly recommended to get accustomed to the
acceleration, handling and braking of the E-Bike on empty
roads before using crowded public roads.
Please verify your countries specific requirements concerning
lighting and ensure you install the appropriate passive
reflectors and compliant lights (front & rear) on the bike.

The Saigon is an electric bicycle that offers pedal assistance
via an electric motor. This feature is controlled by the
handlebar speed controller, which provides 5 levels of
assistance.
Following the legal requirements of Europe (168/2013, article
2, (2) h) the electrical pedal assistance is programmed to
disable when the bike reaches a speed of 25km/h. However,
you may still pedal above 25km/h with no additional
resistance from the electrical motor.
When riding the Saigon, we highly recommend that you
always wear the appropriate safety equipment (helmet,
gloves, glasses, etc.).

1.3. How to get your E-bike ready for the road

The following section explains how to get your Saigon E-Bike
ready for riding
Required Tools:
• Allen Key 4-5-6 mm
• Spanner
A. Adjusting the Handle Bar
B. Inflate the tyres
• Recommendation: 35 – 45 psi. Riding the E-Bike with tyres over or under pressure may result to faster deterioration and/or damage.
• We recommend to check the air pressure regularly every 2 - 4 weeks, as bicycle tubes inevitably loose air over time, especially
when not used regularly.
Step 1. Rotate the handlebars until they
are perpendicular to the wheel and frame
Step 2. Tighten the two lateral screws on
the handlebar using the 5mm Allen key
Step 3. Ensure the top-cap is fastened
tight, please be mindful of how tight the
fixture is as it can cause the handlebar to

1.3.1. Adjusting the Saddle height
The correct saddle height is reached when your leg is almost
straight when putting the ball of your foot on the pedal. The crake
arms are thereby aligned vertically.
To check the saddle height, sit on the bike trial the height via a
ride or leaning against a wall.
To change the saddle height, proceed as follows:

Step 1. Loosen the screw of the seat post clamp
with the Allen key provided in the Modmo
Toolbox until the seat post can move freely
Step 2. Adjust to the desired height Step 3. Retighten the screw to a torque of
5-12 Nm. Do not over-tighten the bolt as it
can cause it to break
Important Information:
The seat post clamp is tightened enough when the seat post
cannot be turned or when it no longer slides down into the seat
tube under your weight.
Attention:
Do not clamp the seat post above the minimum insertion
height or you will be at serious risk of injury. The seat post is a
part of electrical system. Do not remove the seat post from the
frame. It will damage the wiring system and could result in an
electrical fault. In case of damage, please contact Modmo
Customer Service or a Modmo Service Centre in your area.

1.3.2. Removing/installing the battery
Before remove/install the battery, please disconnect the charger.
Step 1. Turn the key in the battery
lock counter-clockwise.
Step 2. Using your key, press the pin
located on bottom of down tube
Attention: Dropping the battery into
the down tube will break the
charging connector.
Attention: Always remove the key
before riding.
Step 1. Insert the battery into the
down tube. Ensure the lock is facing
the bottom bracket
Step 2. Press the battery upwards until the button springs clicks into place. Check the
battery is firmly in place by making sure that there is no gap between the frame and
the battery and that the battery cannot be removed by pulling the battery cap lever.

1.3.4. Switching the electrical system on/off
When you receive your bike it will be in ‘sleep
mode’. To wake your bike, simply connect it to the
charger for a minimum of 2 seconds. To turn the
system on/off, Press and hold “M” for 2 seconds
on the handle bar controller device. You can then
unplug the charger.
1.3.5. Adjusting the assistance level
To increase the assistance level, press the “Up”
button on the Controller until the desired
assistance level appears in the display.
To reduce the assistance level, press the “Down”.
1.3.6. Switching the light on/off
• Turn on: Press “Up” button for a for 2 seconds
• Turn off: Press “Up” button for a for 2 seconds
1.3.7. Push Function
The ‘Push Function’ propels the bike to 6km/h
without peddling. It can be activated by holding
the “Down” button for a minimum of 2 seconds.
Note: The motor will only ‘Push’ while you are holding
the ‘Down’ button.

1.3.3. Identifying the pedals
Start by identifying which is the left and right pedals, as they have
different thread patterns. The right pedal has a “R” and left pedal has a
“L” on the pedal axle. The right pedal is screwed clockwise and the left
pedal is screwed counter-clockwise.
Pedals installation:
Step 1. First screw the pedal in loosely by hand.
Step 2. Tighten the pedals with the 16mm spanner
Warning:
Inserting the pedals on the wrong side will result in damage to
the crank-arms.
Warning:
Pedals are components that if improperly installed, can become
a safety hazard. When screwing in the pedal axle, make sure to
tighten them firmly enough according to the instructions.

1.3.8. Charging the battery
For safety in battery transportation, the battery will be drained out partially. To ensure full battery pack capacity, completely charge
the battery pack before using the first time.
To activate your battery to full capacity it must be charged to 100% and fully discharged 3 to 4 times.
There are two ways of charging the Modmo Battery
On the charger, Red Light indicates “Charging”, Green Light
indicates “Fully Charged”. You can also monitor the charging
process on the Handle Bar Screen & Modmo app on your
smartphone in Point 2.5.

one’s safety. You must therefore ensure that you have read
and understood the rules of conduct set out in these
operating instructions.

Attention:
The term “battery” is used in these instructions to mean all original
Modmo rechargeable battery packs.
• Remove the battery pack from the bikes before beginning work (e.g
inspection, repair, assembly, maintenance, work on the chain, etc.) on
the bike, transporting it by car or plane, or storing it. Unintentional
activation of the bike system poses a risk of injury.
• Do not open the battery pack. Danger of short-circuiting. Opening
the battery pack voids any and all warranty claims.
• Protect the battery against heat (e.g. pro-longed sun exposure) and
fire and from being submerged in water. Do not store or operate the
battery near hot or flammable objects. There is a risk of explosion.
• Prolonged exposure to cold temperatures will damage the battery.
Store your battery indoors for best results.
• Avoid mechanical loads and exposure to high temperatures. These
can damage the battery cells and cause the flammable contents to
leak out.
• Do not place the charger or battery pack near to flammable object.
• Charge battery packs only when dry and in ventilated and in a
fireproof area. The is a risk of fire due to the heat generated during
charging.
• The Battery must not be left unattended while charging. Keep the
batteries and chargers out of reach of children.
• Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery
pack. Avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs, flush with water.
If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected
from the battery pack may cause skin irritations or burns.
• Battery Packs must not be subjected to mechanical impacts. There is
a risk that the battery pack will be damaged causing vapours to
escape. The vapours can irritate the respiratory system. Provide for
fresh air and seek medical attention in case of complications.
• Modmo Battery & Modmo Charger are designed for each other and
only for Modmo E-bikes. Do not use for any other usage.

2.3. Electric System & Connection
The Modmo Saigon electrical hardware including the battery, controller and sensors, wireless module are integrated inside the frame.
This will help prevent a negative impact from outside elements such as rain, humidity, hold and cold temperatures.
The hardware doesn’t require any specific maintenance. However, you may need to update your bike firmware to keep your bike
functioning smoothly.
2.4. ON/OFF Mode Button
The mode button will help you turn on, off and reset your bike. It will
resolve majority of the problems connected to the hardware, and any
other related problems between the bike and mobile app
To turn on, off and reset your bike:
•Hold down the “M” button for 2 seconds. This will reset and turn off
your bike
•Turn on the bike again from the “M” button for 2 seconds
2.5. The Modmo App
You can download the Modmo app via Google Play Store
(Android) and App Store (IOS). Firmware update is done via
the Modmo App. If your Modmo bike is connected to the app,
you will get a notification in your app about the new
available firmware.

2.6. Gates Carbon Drive System:
Gates User Manual
The chain is an element that will naturally relax by the efforts it
undergoes. During the life of the bike it will be necessary to
control its tension regularly.
Using two 15mm flat wrenches, loosen the nuts on the rear hub.
If you have chain tensioning screws, refer to paragraph 3.
Otherwise, pulling the rear wheel toward the rear, tension
your chain.
Using a 3 or 4mm Allen wrench, tighten the two chain tensioning
screws gradually until an acceptable voltage is reached (see
below). Through the unique adjustment of each chain tensioner
screws you can center the tyre between your stays.
You can then tighten the clamping nuts of the rear hub using
two 15mm flat wrenches tightening with 30 Nm. torque.
When properly tightened, the chain must be able to move
vertically by about 10mm when pressed in the middle of the
chain.

Important Information:
Please be aware that use of the Gates Carbon Drive system in ice and snow,
can lead to the teeth of the pulleys becoming clogged. This can lead to the
belt being pushed off of the pulley, or lifted up and ratcheting over it. Both of
these possibilities could reduce the safe operation of the system. For this
reason, the use of the bike in snow and ice should be avoided. The use of the
system in mud should also be avoided for the same reasons

2.7. Brake System
Your Modmo Saigon E-Bike is equipped with hydraulic disc
brakes that will stop you quickly and safely when needed.
Use both brakes simultaneously for safe braking.
2.8. Display Error
If there is something wrong with the electronic control
system, the display will show the error code automatically.
The following is the definition of the main error codes
Display return to normal only after problem being fixed and
bike will not run before fixing the problem.

MAINTENANCE
3.1. List of consumable parts, not covered by
warranty.
• Battery capacity. (Functionality of the battery is
covered under warranty. However, there is no warranty
on the retained capacity levels of a lithium-ion battery as
it’s chemical composition will naturally degrade with use)
• Tires and tubes
• Brake pads, brake discs and hydraulic oil
• Belts and sprockets
• Bearings & seals (wheels, headset, pistons, bottom
bracket, etc)
• Gear Cables & cable housing
• Lubricants
• Handlebar grips
• Paint and all surfaces
Precise explanations regarding the wears of some parts can
be found in the following sections. For most parts, the wear is
due to friction.
3.2. Recommended maintenance intervals
The maintenance needs of your bike depend on its use. As a
guide, we suggest maintenance after every 500km of use or
once per year. For any issues regarding the maintenance of
your bike, please refer to your local Modmo Service Provider.
General Maintenance Check List:
• Bolt check - Ensure each nut/bolt on your bike is set to
the correct torque.
3.3. After an accident
If parts of the electrical system (Cables, display, motor,
battery, sensors) are visibly damaged due to an accident,
there is a risk of electric shock
In this case, remove the battery immediately, have
the electric system checked by Modmo Service
Centre, Customer Services or a specialist retailer.
3.4. Battery
Batteries are a consumable component and their capacity
will degrade over time or with extended use. Frequent
charging/discharging will result in a shorter lifespan of the
battery.
During storage/non-use, the following factors will affect the
service life of the battery:
• Storage temperature. Optimal: 5-20 °C. Temperatures
above 30 °C or parking the bike with the battery in
direct sunlight reduce the service life of the battery.
• Charge level. Optimal charge level: 40-60%. Storing the
battery fully charged or flat reduces the service life.
• Wear condition such as but not limited to cracks, tears
and other forms of damage on the brake pads and
belt/chain, initially after 100 km and then every 1,000
km thereafter.
• Check that all bearings are rotating freely; the headset,
hubs, pedals, bottom bracket, etc.
• Electrical cables are in good condition and have not
been cut or damaged.
• Charging connectors are clean and free from dirt,
debris or corrosion.
• Bolt check - Ensure each nut/bolt on your bike is set to
the corect tỏque

3.5. Changing a tyre/tube/wheels
We recommend to put the E-Bike on a service stand to perform a wheel assembly and disassembly. It is the safest, both for the E-Bike
and the user, as well as the easiest way to perform any kind of replacement and maintenance procedures.
It is still possible to perform tyre or wheel changes with the E-Bike upside down but protection should be added on the display to
prevent damage and care must be taken to not tip over the E-Bike.
3.5.1. Removing/Fitting the Front Wheel
Please refer to the assembly videos provided on Modmo’s YouTube channel for further detail on the removal and fitting of the front wheel.

Step 1. Unplug the motor cable located on the side of the front
electric motor.
Step 3. Carefully remove the front wheel from the dropout.
Step 2. Loosen the bolt with the 16mm spanner so it can turn freely
without completely removing it and there is visible space between
the nut and the fork/frame. One hand should hold the front wheel
to prevent it from slipping down when loosening the Nuts.

MAINTENANCE
Step 1. Carefully mount the wheel to the
dropout and align the brake rotor inside of
the front brake. If necessary, loosen the nuts
to make this step easier.
Step 2. Tighten the nuts using the 16mm
spanner provided in the tool box to
35-40Nm.
Step 3. Rotate the front wheel and make
sure that the disc brake is not visibly
touching the brake pads and that friction
noise is not created.
Step 4. In the case of friction between the disc and the pads, it
is possible to align the brake to the rotor with the following
steps:
•Loosen the two bolts holding the brake to the frame without
removing them completely.
•Apply and maintain pressure to the brake lever with one
hand or by using a rubber band.
•Tighten the two brake bolts again while keeping the brake
lever pressed.
•Release the pressure from the brake lever.
•Test that the friction is between the rotor and pads is gone
by rotating the wheel.

3.5.2. Removing/Fitting the Rear Wheel
Please refer to the assembly videos provided on Modmo’s YouTube channel for further detail on the removal and fitting of the front wheel.
Step 1. Loosen the bolt with the 16mm spanner so it
can turn freely without completely removing it and
there is visible space between the nut and the
frame. One hand should hold the rear wheel to
prevent it from slipping down when loosening the
nuts.
Step 2. Carefully remove the rear wheel from the dropout
and guide the belt of the pulley to remove the wheel
completely.

3.6. Tyres
The tyres are subjected to inevitable wear due to friction. You can reduce the tyre wear by ensuring optimal air pressure and refraining
from locking the tyres when braking (skidding). You will need to replace your tyres if the rubber tread is worn down, or if the tyres have
become porous due to ageing and frequent exposure to the sun. The above sections explain how to change the tyres.

Step 1. Guide the belt onto the pulley and
carefully fit the rear wheel in the dropout.
Step 3. Tighten the nuts using the 16mm
spanner provided in the tool box to
35-40Nm.
Step 2. Carefully mount the wheel to the
dropout and align the brake rotor inside
of the front brake. If necessary, loosen the
nuts to make this step easier.
FITTING

3.8. Transporting on a car
To avoid damage caused by transporting the vehicle on the
outside of a car, observe the following instructions:
Attention: The battery can become loose when the vehicle is
being transported on a car roof and poses a risk to other road
users.
• Remove the battery and any non-bolted accessories from
your bike before transporting it on a car on a rear or roof
rack. If you transport the Saigon on a car in the rain and at
high speeds, water can get in to the electrical system.
• Use a protective cover for the bike
Attention: Unsuitable bike racks can break during the journey
or may not be completely safe for your vehicle. Check the
potential roof load in the car's operating manual and the
bearing load in the car's bike rack manual. Li-ion batteries are
subject to the requirements of the hazardous goods law.
Important Information: Private users can transport the battery
on the road without restrictions. In the case of commercial
transport (e.g. haulage), regulations on packaging and
labelling must be observed (e.g. the provisions of the ADR).
3.7. Brakes
Work on the hydraulics should be carried out by Modmo
Service or a specialist workshop. In any case, please contact
Modmo Service if the pressure point of the brakes fluctuates.
3.7.1. Brake pad and brake disc wear
Brake pads and brake discs are subject to functional wear
caused by friction between the two parts. The wear depends
on the riding style, terrain, weather and ground conditions
and may require more frequent inspections. It is
recommended to check the brake pads every 500 km.
3.7.2. Checking the brake pads
The brake pads must be replaced in the following conditions:
• If the brake pads only 2.5 mm thick (width of
carrier plate and friction surface)
• If the brake pads come into contact with oil (leads
to reduced braking power).
Pull the brake lever and insert the rear side of the transport
lock between the carrier plates of the corresponding brake
calliper. If the transport lock still fits between the pads, they
are not worn out.
3.7.3. Checking the disc rotor
The brake discs must be replaced if they have a thickness of
less than 1.8 mm. The thickness can be determined using a
disc thickness measuring tool.
3.7.4. Cleaning and care
If necessary, clean the bike with water and a soft sponge or
soft brush. Do not use a high pressure jet washer. Modmo will
not be liable for any damages caused by water damage.

MAINTENANCE
Firstly, remove the battery and ensure the charging
connector caps are installed.
- The Gates Carbon Drive Belt is also cleaned with
water and does not need to be lubricated.
Attention:
-> Only use a weak garden hose that provides a slow jet of
water. Oil or spray wax that gets onto the brake discs or pads
reduces the performance of the brakes.
-> Prevent the spray wax or oil from coming into contact with
the brake.

WARRANTY

Every Modmo bike is covered by a limited warranty of 5 years
against manufacturing defects in materials or workmanships
of the frame & forks and 2 years on other components.
This warranty applies only to the original registered owner of
Modmo Bicycle and is not transferable. This limited warranty
does not apply to normal wear and tear, malfunctions, or
failures due to abuse, neglect, improper repair, improper
maintenance, alteration, modification, accidents, or other
improper use.
It is important that you register your new bicycle within 30
days after purchase in order to activate the warranty and
provide the proof of purchase and a record of the serial
number of your Modmo bike located on the frame.

4.1. Warranty Overview
• The frame and fork warranty covers the products to be
free from defects in material or workmanship for a
period of five (5) year from the date of receipt. After any
warranty period has elapsed, you may purchase spare
and replacement parts by contacting Modmo.
• Original Modmo batteries except the battery capacity
are warrantied to be free from defects in material or
workmanship for a period of two (2) years from the date
of receipt. Replaced Batteries (If provided) are warranted
to be free from defects in material or workmanship for a
further period of two (2) years from the date of delivery.
• Other components are warrantied to be free from
defects in material or workmanship for a period of two
(2) year from the date of receipt.
For warranty cases, the customer should contact Modmo
directly, and we will make the necessary arrangements to
solve your case. If a part or component is faulty, email
contact is preferred, along with a video or photo of the faulty
part inside the warrenty form.
The warranty does not include:
• All wear parts according to the list of consumable
parts, unless those parts have a production or
material defect
• Damage caused by improper use
• Damage caused by failure to observe the
procedures described in the “Maintenance” section
• Damage caused by improper repair tools and
insufficient care
• Damage caused by the use of used parts
• Damage caused by retrofitting of non-standard
equipment and by technical modifications
