FUNCTIONAL DISCRIPTION
Double Insulation
The MBX® Electric has a double insulation structure. Double-Insulated tools are constructed throughout with two
separate layers of electrical insulation or one double thickness of insulation between operator and the tool's electri-
cal systems. An MBX® Electric built with this insulation system need no be plugged into a grounded electrical cord
or outlet. As a result, this tool is equipped with a two-prong plug, which permits you to use extension cords without a
ground connection. Double insulation does not take the place of normal safety precautions when operating this tool.
The insulation system is intended to provide added protection against the injuries that could result from a possible
electrical insulation failure within the tool.

Before plugging in the tool, always check to see that the switch actuates properly and returns to the “off” position
when the rear of the switch button is depressed. To start the tool, depress the rear of the switch button and push it
forward. Then depress the front of the switch button to lock it. To stop the tool, depress the rear of the switch button.
The switch button then returns to the backward, “off” position. Always be sure that the switch button is not in the
lock-“on position before plugging it in.
Extension Cord
Double Insulated tools have 2-wire cords and can be used with 2-wire or 3-wire extension cords. Use only round-
jacketed extension cords. If the extension is to be used outside, the cord must be suitable for outdoor use. Any
cord marked for outdoor use can also be used for indoor work. An extension cord must have adequate wire size or
gauge (AWG) for safety, and to prevent loss of power and overheating. When using more than one extension cord,
be sure each individual cord contains at least the minimum wire size. To determine the minimum wire size required,
refer to the chart bel.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE FOR MBX
®
BELTS
Phase 1: The belt works at full efficiency: Even a slight amount of pressure on the belt will remove a lot of material.
The bristle tips are sharp and straight. They don't break off.
Phase 2: The sharp bristle tips have become dull. The operator increased pressure on the belt to try to compensate
for the deceased efficiency of the slowly dulling tips. This caused the bristles to be bent backwards and
some of the bristle tips fell out.The belt is worn out and must be changed.
Phase 3: If you do not change the belt in Phase 2, the condition of the belt will be as shown in Phase 3.
Explanation: A traditional sanding disc is used up in a constant curve (see diagram) and you can see how much
it has been used and how much life remains. Conversely, in Phase 1, the belt operates with no visible wear for
a long time. The rapid progression to Phase 2 and then to Phase 3 is considered normal.
Tipp: If the belt begins to lose efficiency, check the belt bristles for wear. If wear has progressed to Phase 2,
change the belt. Increasing the pressure is incorrect use and will reduce the life of the belt. You can extend the life of the
belt in Phase 1 by re-sharpening the bristles, as described below.

Belts, knee style
MBX® Belts, straight
MBX® Vinyl Zapper®
When using, never allow eraser to stand in one spot during use.
This could result in surface damage due to excessive heat build up.
Re-sharpening of the MBX
®
Belts
After you have used the MBX® Belt for a certain period, the tips of the
bristles will become round, and this will reduce the brushing effect.
Re-sharpening the bristles will restore the MBX® Belt to its proper per-
formance.
MBX® Belts, knee style:
Assemble the MBX® Belt upside down to provide reverse spinning to
the belt. Spin the belt on the grinding stone for 15 to 30 seconds, apply-
ing slight pressure. Then assemble the MBX® Belt again, in the correct
direction.
MBX® Belts, straight:
Do not attempt to re-sharpen the bristles on the straight belt.
These bristles cannot be re-sharpened and the belt must replaced.

MAINTENANCE
WARNING: Always be sure that the tool is switched off and unplugged before attempting to perform inspection
or maintenance.
Cleaning
After each use, use compressed air to blow dust and grit out of the motor housing, and especially the air vent. This
necessary regular maintenance procedure will prevent dust and grit from accumulating on interior surfaces and
reducing motor cooling efficiency.
