installthe coolertopreventtheCPUfromoverheating.If youdonothaveaCPU
cooler, contact yourdealertopurchaseand install itbeforeturning onthe computer.
Important
1.Overheatingwillseriouslydamage the CPUand system.Alwaysmake
surethe cooling fan canwork properlytoprotect the CPUfromoverheating.
2.Makesurethat youapplyan even layerofheatsinkpaste(orthermaltape)
betweentheCPUandtheheatsinktoenhanceheatdissipation.
3.While replacingtheCPU,alwaysturnoffthepowersupplyorunplugthe

WhenintegratingaPentium4processor-basedsystem,besuretotaketheproper
electrostaticdischarge(ESD)precautions.Considerusing ground straps,gloves,ED
mats,orotherprotectivemeasurestoavoiddamaging theprocessorand other
electricalcomponentsinthesystem.
Do nottouchsocketsensitive
contacts.Weassumeno re-
sponsibilityforthe potentialdam-
agescaused bythisactionand
thereforethe warrantyweprovide
maybeinvalid.
nDisengageLoadLeverbydepressing downandoutonthe hooktoclear
retention tab. RotateLoadLevertofullyopenpositionat approximately135°
nRotateLoadPlatetofullyopenposition at approximately100°.RemoveSocket
ProtectiveCover.Withleft hand indexfingerand thumbtosupport theloadplate
edge, engage protectivecoverfingertabwithright hand thumband peelthe
coverfromLGA775Socket while pressingoncenterofprotectivecoverto
assist in removal.
nLocatetwo orientationkeynotches.
nGrape processorwiththumbandindexfinger. (Graspthe edgeswithout the
orientationnotches.)Thesocket hascutoutsforyourfingers tofitinto. Carefully
pacethepackageintothesocketbodyusing apurelyverticalmotion.(Tilting the
processorintoplaceorshiftingitintoplaceon thesocketcandamagethe
sensitivesocketcontacts.)
nVerifythatpackageiswithin thesocketbodyand properlymatedtotheorienta-
tionkeys

3.SecureLoadLeverwithLoadPlatetab underretention tabof LoadLever.
SmearthermalgreaseonthetopoftheCPU.LowertheCPUfan ontothe CPUand
socket, andsecureitusing theattachmentsorscrewsprovidedonthe fan. Finally,
attachthefanpowercabletotheCPUFANadapter.
Cooler Installation
Thisprocessorhastofitaspecial coolingfan.Whenthe processor
runs,it willincreasetheinternalambient temperature.Achassiswith
amaximuminternal ambienttemperatureof 38oCattheprocessorfan
inletisarequirement. Failuretoprovidethiscould resultindamage to
theboard.Pleasemakesurethe coolerhasbeen recommended by

3. Theplasticclipateachsideof theDIMM slot willautomaticallyclose.
