INTRODUCTION & GETTING STARTED
Congratulations on selecting the RPR 580 Series Receiver. Your pager has many
features and functions including an icon driven user interface. This guide will describe
the operation of the product and ensure that you receive the full benefits of paging with
the RPR 580.

SWITCHING THE PAGER ON
Before switching the pager on you will need to insert the battery, please refer to the
section on changing the battery.
To switch-on the pager, press and hold the yXbutton for one second. A short alert will
sound and the programmed switch-on message will be displayed. After one second the
Time, Optional Date or Nameplate will be displayed, which is then followed by the
Standby Screen:

Having switched the pager on, other symbols may also be displayed. For example,
symbols will indicate if there are any unread messages, whether an audible or vibrate
alert has been selected, and if appropriate, low battery and/or out-of-range warnings
may also be displayed:

HOW TO SELECT MAIN MENU OPTIONS
From the Standby Screen press yXto select the Main Menu, the following symbols will
be displayed:

To select a Main Menu function press the Wor Xbuttons and step to the required icon,
then press the yXbutton to select the feature.

SWITCHING THE PAGER OFF
From the Main Menu select the Pager Off icon. Press yXonce the display will ask
you to confirm this action by displaying the Pager Off Conformation ? Icon. Press yX
once to turn the pager off.

SETTING THE TIME & DATE
From the Main Menu select the Time and Date icon and press the yXbutton twice to
set pager time and date.
Use the Wor Xbuttons to change the Hour, then press the yXbutton to confirm your
selection and adjust the tens-of-minutes:

confirm your selection and adjust the minutes:
Use the Wor Xbuttons to change the minutes, then press the yXbutton to confirm your
selection and change the date:
Use the yXto select the day/month, month/day and the year, use the Wor Xbuttons to
change the values then press yXto confirm your selection and to change the 12/24-
hour clock:
At the 24 icon use the Wor Xbuttons to switch from 24 hour to 12 hour clock mode,
then press and hold the yXbutton to return to the Standby Screen:

SLEEP FUNCTION
This feature automatically switches the pager off at preset times, for example overnight.
From the Main Menu select the time and date icon. Then select the sleep function
icon and press yXbutton to confirm selection. You may Activate, Adjust or De-activate
the sleep feature:

1. To activate the sleep function press the Xbutton, when the switch-on and switch-off
times are displayed, press-and-hold the yXbutton to confirm selection. The sleep
icon will be displayed in the Standby Screen indicating feature activation.
2. To adjust the switch off and switch on time press the Xbutton, the switch-on and
switch-off time will be displayed. Press yXbutton to select switch-on and switch-off
times using the Wor Xbuttons to select the hours and minutes. Once completed
press-and-hold the yXto confirm your selection and activate this function.
3. To de-activate the sleep function press the Wbutton, when the switch-on and
switch-off times are removed from the display, press-and-hold the yXbutton to
confirm selection. The sleep icon will be removed from the Standby Screen.

SETTING THE PAGER ALARM
From the Main Menu select the pager alarm function icon and press the yXbutton to
select this feature:

Activating the Alarm
To activate the alarm press the Xbutton, when the alarm is activated the icon and the
time at which the alarm is activated will be displayed. Press and hold the yXbutton to
return the pager to the Standby Screen. The Standby Screen will now display the
icon indicating alarm activation.
Setting the Alarm Time
To set the alarm time use the yXbutton to select hours or minutes at which the alarm
will activate - the selected item will flash. Use the Wor Xbuttons to change the hours
or minutes, once you have set the alarm time press and hold the yXbutton to return the
pager to the Standby Screen.
De-activating the Alarm
To de-activate the alarm press the Xbutton, when the alarm is de-activated the icon
will be displayed. Now press and hold the yXbutton to return the pager to the Standby
Screen.
Alarm Activation
When the alarm activates the Standby Screen will display a flashing icon and the
pager alert will beep for 8-seconds. Pressing the yX, Wor Xbuttons within the 8-
second period will terminate the alert.

SELECTING PAGER ALERT OPTIONS
The RPR 580 allows you to select one of seven different audible alert tones, alert
duration, silent alert, and vibrate alert.
From the Main Menu select the pager alert icon.

Selecting Audible Alert
Press the yXbutton and select the icon. Use Wor Xbuttons to select the alert
pattern; the pager will give a sample of the alert to stop this press any button. Having
made your selection press and hold the yXbutton to return to the Standby Screen.
Note: If the (Musical Note) icon does not flash then the personal alerts options is not
available.
Selecting the Alert Duration
Press the yXbutton and select the x1 icon. Use Wor Xbuttons to select the alert
duration - the alert duration increases in multiples of x1, x2, x4 and x16. Having made
your selection press and hold the yXbutton to return to the Standby Screen.
Selecting Silent Alert
Press the yXbutton and select the icon. Press Wor Xbuttons to mute the alert, the
icon will be displayed in the Standby Screen indicating that silent alert is activated.
Press and hold the yXbutton to return to the Standby Screen.
Alternatively, you may toggle between audible and silent alert by pressing and holding
the yXbutton for 3-seconds whilst the pager is in the Standby Screen.

Activating Vibrate Alert
Press the yXbutton and select the icon. Press Wor Xbuttons to activate vibrate
alert, the pager will vibrate for 1 second and the icon will be displayed in the Standby
Screen indicating that silent alert is activated. Press and hold the yXbutton to return to
the Standby Screen.
De-Activating Vibrate Alert
Press the yXbutton and select the icon. Press Wor Xbuttons to de-activate vibrate
alert, the icon will be removed from the Standby Screen. Press and hold the yX
button to return to the Standby Screen.

DISPLAY OPTIONS
From the Main Menu select the pager display options icon.

Selecting Character Size
At the flashing ABC icon press Wor Xbuttons and select the required character font.
There are three font options available: 4-line, 2-Line and 2-Line Bold. Once you have
made your selection press and hold the yXbutton to return to the Standby Screen.
Activating The Pager Back Light
Press the yXbutton and select the icon. Press Wor Xbuttons to activate ( )or de-
activate ( ) the pager backlight, once you have made your selection press and hold the
yXbutton to return to the Standby Screen.
Changing the Display Contrast
Press the yXbutton and select the icon. Press Wto reduce the screen contrast, or
press Xto increase the screen contrast. Once you have made your selection press and
hold the yXbutton to return to the Standby Screen.

RECEIVING A MESSAGE
Providing that audible or vibrate alert has been activated your pager will admit an alarm
on the receipt of a message. You may cancel the alert by pressing any of the pager
buttons.
The message will be displayed during the initial alert. If you are away from your pager
the alert will continue for a few seconds, the display will then revert to the Standby
Screen and the message icon will be displayed indicating an unread message. If the
pager supports extended alert a reminder alert will sound.
To display the message press the Xbutton. If the message length exceeds one screen
you can scroll through to the end of the message by pressing yX. At the end of each
message an end-of-message marker ()will be displayed:
Each message is time and date stamped when it is received this information is accessed
by pressing yXafter the end of message marker.

REVIEWING STORED MESSAGES
When the pager has received a new message the Standby Screen will display the
message icon. To view an existing message press Xnow press Wor Xto scroll
through the messages. If you wish to read a message and it occupies more than one
screen, press yXto step through to the end of the message.
To return to the Standby Screen at any time, press yXfor one second.
When the pager has 64 messages in its memory, the Standby Screen will show the
memory full icon. If a new message is received when the memory is full then the
oldest read message will be deleted. However, if all messages are unread then the
oldest unread message will be deleted.
When the end of the message marker is displayed press yXto enter the message
menu, this also displays the message time and date stamp:

ARCHIVING MESSAGES
Select the message you wish to archive, scroll to the end of the message marker ()
and press yXto display the message menu. Use the Wor Xto select the icon and
press yXto select this function. At the following display ? press yXto archive
the message.
If the archive memory is full, the message memory full icon will be displayed. A
message must be deleted from the archive memory before a new one can be archived.

REVIEWING ARCHIVED MESSAGES
To view archived messages from the Standby Screen press yXtwice, then press Wor
Xto select the message to be viewed. Use the yXbutton to scroll through the
message text. If there are no archived messages the will be displayed.
If your pager does not have information services, the Wbutton may be used as a
shortcut to access archived messages.
