1. FOREWORD

product fulfils you requirements and serves you for a long time. We advise you to carefully go
through these instructions before commissioning the machine. T e inspection and maintenance
activities described in t ese instructions are vitally important for t e proper functioning of t e mac ine
and t e validity of t e warranty.
All instructions, warnings and cautions must be followed wit out exception. T ey are given to ensure
t e safety of t e user and t e durability of t e mac ine.
T ese operation and maintenance instructions apply to Optima range arrows starting from serial
number 05240016.
1.1. Intended use of the machine
Multiva s-tine arrow is designed to perform seedbed preparation of soil, to w ic primary tillage as
already been carried out, to prepare t e soil for seeding. Multiva s-tine arrow produces a smoot
seedbed and a sufficiently fine crumb structure, w ic are t e requirements for even and optimal
growt , economically wit a minimum amount of arrowing. T e s-tine arrow, wit two or t ree
levelling boards and narrower tine spacing, can also be used for levelling. Never use the s-tine harrow
to perform primary tillage to unprepared soil!
Multiva Optima T is an efficient arrow for various soil types. T e spacious frame structure prevents even
extensive amounts of plant residue from causing arrow clogging. T e supporting w eels ensure
uniform tillage dept even on soft soil types. Due to t e great weig t and robustness of t e tines of t e
arrow, it is also suitable for tilling eavy soil. T e tilling power of Optima T models can be increased by
utilising a rear levelling board w ic is available as an option. T e working widt can be c anged by
using extension parts in models T600 and T800. Extension parts are bolted to t e base frame of t e s-
tine arrow.

2. SAFET INSTRUCTIONS
T ese safety instructions and safety distances must wit out exception be followed w en using t e
mac ine. T e mac ine must be configured according to t is manual and t is manual must be utilised in
t e operation and maintenance of t e mac ine.
Never allow any person to ride the harrow during work or transport!
2.1. Warning symbols

2.2. Hitching and unhitching
T e arrow can only be itc ed to t e trailer itc of t e tractor. Follow all safety instructions
concerning t e tractor w en itc ing or un itc ing t e arrow. T ere is a danger of crus ing in
itc ing and un itc ing activities. Also beware t e bruising of feet, fingers and arms. Do not disconnect
pressurised ydraulic connectors. W en t e arrow is itc ed to t e tractor, standing near t e arrow,
and particularly its side sections, is forbidden.
2.3. Transport on public roads
W en transporting t e arrow on a public road, please take care and follow all orders under t e Road
Traffic Act and special regulations concerning slow ve icles. Before moving, c eck t e visibility of t e
arrow's reflectors and t e slow ve icle triangle as well as t e functioning and visibility of t e tractor's
lig ts. T e reflectors, triangle and tractor lig ts must be maintained clean, as t ey affect t e traffic
safety of t e entire combination. W en transporting t e arrow, particular attention s ould be given on
t e visibility of t e rear turn signals. Always ensure t at t e arrow is sufficiently clean before transport
on public roads.
As standard, t e arrow is fitted wit reflectors at t e extremities of t e arrow to indicate t e over
widt portion of t e towed mac ine. W en driving on public roads, make sure t at t e lig ts of t e
tractor are also visible from be ind t e arrow.
The maximum transport speed for the harrow with 300 tyres is 40 km/h and with 340 tyres 50
km/h.

T e arrow as a transport support w ic prevents t e mac ine lowering down accidentally in case of a
users fault or a sudden leak in t e ydraulics. Transport support pin 1 must be set to its ole and locked
wit pin 2 before any road transport.
Always before t e road transport, make sure t at t e side wings ave locked to t e transport position.
Unintended opening of t e wings s ould be prevented by closing t e ball valve in t e ydraulic ose.
Turn t e lever crosswise to t e ose. See section 4.4 in t is manual.
2.4. Using the harrow
T e operator must be familiar wit t e operation of t e arrow and e/s e must ave t e knowledge
and skills to operate t e arrow correctly. T e operator must study t e operating instructions and
follow t em.
T e condition of t e arrow, t e tig tness of t e bolts and t e tyre pressures must always be visually
c ecked before starting work. Never adjust or clean a moving arrow. During work, persons are
forbidden to ride t e arrow or stand wit in t e working area (safety distance 5 m). Safety distance
s ould also be kept w ile t e arrow is not moving w en t e ydraulics is being used. Pressurised
ydraulic cables can release a deadly liquid spray. T e side sections of t e arrow can only be raised and
lowered w en t e arrow is not moving. W en raising or lowering t e side sections, ensure t at no
persons are standing near t e arrow. Before transport, ensure t at t e side sections are set to transport
position and locked. Before commencing working wit t e arrow, side sections must be fully lowered,
so t at t e cylinders are fully extended.
T e side sections of t e arrow s ould be raised and lowered by keeping t e ydraulic pressure
continuously on during t e w ole movement. Interrupting t e movement may disturb t e function of a
valve in t e system and t e side sections will not move at t e same time. Sudden c ange to t e balance
may cause t e arrow to tip over. T is applies in particular 800 – 1500 arrows.

2.5. Maintenance
For maintenance, t e arrow must be stopped and it must be blocked to stop it from moving.
Maintenance must be carried out on an even and stable surface to prevent t e arrow from tipping
over or moving. Note t e danger of slipping: Do not step on any part of t e mac ine.
Maintenance-related and ot er measures s ould not be carried out w en t e arrow or one of its parts
is raised and unsupported.
W en maintenance is carried out to t e arrow, t e side blocks must be lowered. In any event, ensure
safe working conditions and sufficient lig ting. Turn off t e tractor and release t e pressure from t e
ydraulics before andling any ydraulic oses or components.
Only use original spare parts in t e maintenance of t e arrow. Using non-original spare parts will void
t e warranty.

3. COMMISSIONING AND BASIC ADJUSTMENTS
3.1. Measures before commissioning
T e sections of t e arrow requiring lubrication ave been lubricated at t e factory and oil as been
driven to t e cylinders during test runs. Still, it is recommended to review t e lubrication points before
t e first period of usage. Lubrication points are described in section 7 MAINTENACE PROGRAMME,
LUBRICATION.
3.2. Hitching to tractor
Attac t e towing eye of t e arrow's drawbar to t e ydraulic tow itc of t e tractor. Note t e safety
distance. Ensure t at t e itc of t e tractor locks on and t at t e itc is not supported by t e lifting
device.
Remember t at pressurised oses s ould never be andled and t e ydraulics s ould be depressurised
before andling.
Hydraulic oses are marked wit colourful collars. Hoses are connected to dual purpose outputs.
Optima T500 - T700 :
T e tractor must ave 2 dual purpose ydraulic outputs.
T e selector valve of t e arrow directs t e oil to t e levelling board cylinders or t e opening/closing
cylinders of t e side sections depending on t e eig t setting of t e arrow. T e operation of t e
selector valve is described in section 3.4
Optima T800 - T 500
T e tractor must ave 3 dual purpose ydraulic outputs.
NB! All models: Ensure t at t e dual purpose valve used for eig t adjustment is actually set to
function as dual purpose and t at t e float position of t e valve is not activated. If t e float position
remains activated during eig t adjustment, t is may result in t e c anging of t e arrow's working
dept between sections during tillage!
NB! Optima T800 - T 000 : T e raising cylinders of side sections must be connected to a ydraulic
output wit a float position. T e float position of t e side section's raising cylinders must always be
activated during tillage. T e float position allows t e oil to flow freely in bot oses.
Adjust t e pulling arms of t e tractor to a eig t at w ic t ey do not become in contact wit t e
drawbar or ydraulic oses during turning. W en you un itc t e arrow from t e tractor, remember to
also disconnect t e ydraulic connectors.

3.3. Adjusting hydraulic hoses
After itc ing t e arrow to t e tractor, adjust t e ydraulic oses between t e ose rack and tractor to
a suitable lengt . T e lengt of t e oses can be adjusted by loosening t e ose rack lock (point 1 in
t e illustration, x 3). Extra ose is left looped in t e rack. Tig ten t e bolts after making t e adjustment.
T e lengt of t e oses is correct w en t e oses do not become in contact wit t e tractor's pulling
arms during turning. T e lengt of t e oses is too s ort if t ey tense up and disconnect from t e
tractor's ydraulic connector during turning. T e smallest allowed diameter for a ose loop is 200 mm.
If t e diameter is too small, t e loop must be opened and t e oses placed on t e rack wit out looping.
If t e loop is too small, t ere is a danger of breaking t e oses. Turn off t e tractor and release t e
pressure from t e ydraulics before andling t e ydraulic oses
3.4. Side section and front levelling board hydraulics selector valve, Optima T500 - T700
In models Optima T500 - T700, t e levelling board ydraulics and t e side section ydraulics function
alternately using t e same tractor valve, depending on t e eig t adjustment of t e mac ine. W en
t e arrow is raised up for transport, t e selector valve in t e frame of t e mac ine directs t e ydraulic
pressure to t e lifting cylinders of t e side sections. W en t e mac ine is in work position, t e valve
directs t e pressure to t e levelling board cylinders. T e valve operates automatically w en t e eig t
of t e mac ine is adjusted between t e work and transport positions. T e selector valves are located in
front of t e axles, in t e centre section of t e arrow and t ey are actuated from t e axles t roug t e
actuator arm.

Troubles ooting in t e event t at t e side sections cannot be raised, Optima T500 - T700 :
Feel w et er t e pressure reac es t e oses of t e side sections' lifting cylinders w en t e side sections
are raised.
•T ere is pressure -> C eck t at t e ydraulic return connector is properly attac ed to t e
tractor and t at t e oses are not pinc ed anyw ere. Quick connectors are not always
compatible wit t e tractor's connectors. Also test in anot er ydraulic return. C ange anot er
quick connector to t e ose.
•No pressure -> Lift t e arrow up to t e transport position. C eck w et er t e selector valve
spindles are moving. T e spindles can be moved manually by twisting t eir actuator bar. C eck
w et er t e actuator bar of t e selector valves is properly attac ed and t at it is not kinked. If
t e levelling board is working also w en t e arrow is raised up, t e problem is t at t e
spindles of t e selector valves ave not moved.
3.5. Operating principle of the front levelling board and depth adjustment hydraulics
T e front levelling boards and t e dept adjustment in models
equipped wit fully ydraulic dept adjustment are operated by
t ree series-connected cylinders. T e series-connection of
cylinders means t at t e oil flows from t e piston side of one
cylinder to t e rod side of t e ot er cylinder. T e oil only flows
t roug t e tractor's valve to t e first and last cylinder. All t e
cylinders in t e series are of different sizes, so t at t e oil volume
of t e piston side corresponds to t e volume of t e next
cylinder’s rod side. Bot t e levelling board and dept
adjustment circuits ave a double operated pilot valve t at keeps
t e working dept set even in t e case t at t e valve of t e
tractor leaks.
3.6. Synchronizing the cylinders
Series-connected cylinders must be set to t e same level for t em to work precisely.
Cylinders are sync ronized by fully extending t e cylinder rods using tractor ydraulics and maintaining
t e pressure for about 30 seconds, and running t e motor on low rpm. W en t e cylinder rod is fully
out, t e oil can flow t roug a small opening past t e piston to t e next cylinder. Hydraulic oil flows
t roug all cylinders in t e circuit, setting t em to t e same level and bleeding possible air out from t e
system. Moving t e cylinders back and fort will not sync ronize t em.
Sync ronizing of dept and levelling board cylinders must always be carried out at t e beginning of an
operation period. And always after c anging a cylinder or a ydraulic ose to t ese circuits. Dept
adjustment cylinders must be sync ronized at times also during tillage keeping t e pressure on for a
few seconds.

3.7. Harrow position adjustment
T e orizontal position of t e frame in relation to t e vertical position is adjusted wit t e top link 1.
T e adjustment ensures t e even working dept of all tines. T e position adjustment is tractor-specific
and depends on t e eig t of t e tractor's tow itc . W en t e top link is s ortened, t e front end of
t e frame lowers - correspondingly, lengt ening t e rod raises t e front end. T e top link must be
locked in place w en t e rig t position is found.
T e adjustment must be c ecked during work as t e tractor and t e arrow may sink differently in t e
field.
3.8. Basic adjustment of the side sections
T e aim of t e adjustment is to ensure t at bot side sections are at t e same dept wit regard to t e
centre block. T e factory adjustments must be c ecked w en t e mac ine is commissioned on t e field.
NB! Before making adjustments, make sure t at t e dept cylinders are equalised and t at t e raising
cylinders of t e side sections are not supporting t e side sections.
T e adjustment is performed by loosening t e locking nut at t e end of t e cylinder (point 1). By
rotating t e cylinder rod (point 2), you can adjust t e dept of t e side sections. By extending t e
cylinder rod, t e working dept of t e side section decreases and by s ortening it t e working dept
increases. One rotation affects 5 mm to t e cultivation dept .

Optima T500 and T550
Standard models wit mec anical cranks for dept adjustment:
T e centre section limiter pieces adjust t e working dept similar to ot er models.
The working depth of side sections is always separately adjusted from t e side section crank (point 1).
W en t e crank is turned, t e working dept grows. One revolution of t e side section adjustment
crank corresponds to one limiter piece in t e dept adjustment of t e centre section. T e scale of t e
side section dept adjustment can be moved to correspond to t e dept scale of t e centre section by
loosening t e tig tening bolt (point 2), 17 mm key.

4. USE AND ADJUSTMENT OF THE HARROW
Depending on the model of the harrow, some of the equipment mentioned in this manual are
installed as standard and some are available as options.
4.1. Seedbed preparation
T e Multiva Optima T s-tine arrows are designed to perform seedbed preparation of soil, to w ic
primary tillage as already been carried out, to prepare t e soil for seeding. T e arrow is used to
loosen and crumble t e soil to ac ieve a sufficiently fine result. T e requirements for t e even and
optimal growt of t e cultivated plant include a seedbed t at is as even as possible and t e correct
surface crumb structure. An even seedbed is also important for t e dept - olding of t e seeder's
coulters.
T e tillage effect is determined by c anging t e working dept , number of tillage rounds, number of
tillage times, tillage speed and directions as well as t e tillage intensity of t e levelling boards and cage
roller.
T e correct tillage dept is t e dept of sowing for t e plant. On clay and silt soils, t ere must be a
sufficient amount of fine crumbs on top of t e soil. T is layer of crumbs forms a barrier against
evaporation, preventing t e excessive drying of t e soil. T e surface of t e seed layer must ave larger
crumbs. T ey reduce t e risk of slaking and maintain t e seedbed loose. Particularly on silt soil, t e
surface layer s ould not be tilled excessively fine. T e primary objective of seedbed preparation of
easily cultivated sand, mull and peat soil is to level t e soil for seeding.
In favourable conditions, t e Multiva s-tine arrow may only need one tillage run. However, t e number
of tillage passes must always be selected according to conditions. If several tillage passes are carried
out, t e run directions s ould be made perpendicular to eac ot er. T is ensures t e maximum
evenness of t e seedbed.
T e suitable tillage speed for t e operation of t e s-tine and rear arrow is, depending on t e
conditions, 8 – 12 km/ . Wit excessive tillage speed, t e tillage c aracteristics of t e s-tine suffer.
NB! Optima T s-tine harrow should not be used for the primary tillage of unprepared soil.
4.2. Tillage technique
Suitable tillage tec nique is influenced by several factors, e.g. t e size and form of t e block and
direction of seeding. Correctly selected tillage tec nique reduces required work and ensures t e best
possible result. If several tillage passes are made, t e last pass s ould be performed in t e intended
direction of seeding. T is reduces unnecessary tilting of t e seeder unit. If possible, it is recommended
to drive parallel to t e longest side of t e block to minimise t e time spent on turning.
Turn t e wide arrow smoot ly or rise it up a bit w en turning around at t e end of a field strip.
Do not reverse the harrow while the tines are in the soil.

4.3. Starting and setting into work position
Raise t e arrow to transport eig t. Ensure t at t e safety distance of t e side sections is clear. Lower
t e side sections. T e lock pieces on t e side sections open automatically. Maintain t e ydraulics
actuated until t e cylinders are fully extended.
1250 and 1500 models ave valves t at divide t e oil to t e outermost side sections. W en opening t e
wings, inner sections open first and t en t e outermost wings turn open. Outermost wings turn first
w en setting t e arrow to t e transport position.
Before tillage, it is recommended to eac time perform t e sync ronization of t e front levelling boards
and dept adjustment as described in section 3.6. T is ensures t at t e levelling board and working
dept cylinders operate accurately. W en t e sync ronization is performed sufficiently often, t e
ydraulics needs to be recirculated only for a few seconds. If you notice t at t e relative position of t e
front levelling boards or t e working dept adjustment as c anged, t e tractor must be stopped and
sync ronization s ould be performed.

4.4. Transport position
Raise t e dept adjustment of t e arrow to t e
ig est position. After t is, raise t e side sections
using t e ot er valve to transport position. T ey lock
automatically wit t e locking piece springs (point
1). However, ensure t at t e locking piece as locked
t e sections to top position before transport (point
2). If t e sections are not locked, lower t em slig tly
and raise t em again to top position.
W en t e sections are raised, t e tractor valve must be activated until t e lock piece of t e side section
as wit out doubt risen up from t e bottom position and locked t e side sections up. Only after t is
can t e valve be left in old position. Some of t e tractor valves mig t produce suc a ig reaction
pressure t at t e force of t e lock piece string may not be sufficient to lock t e side sections. In t is
case, t e tractor valve s ould be set to float position and it s ould be simultaneously ensured t at t e
side sections actually lock.
Ensure t at t e arrow is sufficiently clean w en you go to public roads.

4.5. Adjusting working depth
Working dept must always be measured from be ind t e arrow, from tilled soil and t e arrow
s ould be adjusted according to eac field block and t e sown plant. T e adjustment must be carried
out according to t e ardest soil of t e block. On softer areas, t e working dept may be decreased
during tilling by using t e dept adjustment ydraulics and t e dept indicator.
T e lowest working dept of t e arrow is adjusted wit t e limiter pieces of t e centre section
cylinder. Limiter pieces can limit t e dept in steps of 5 mm. T e arrow must be slig tly raised up so
t at t e adjustment can be made. Note a danger of crus ing. Turn off t e tractor always before making
any adjustments.
NB!
Limiter pieces must be in eit er of t e extreme positions, ie. eit er turned against t e piston rod or
fully to t e side.
4.6. Adjusting the depth scale
T e scale under t e limiter pieces can be adjusted to correspond to t e actual working dept by
opening t e wing nut located under t e scale (point 1). After t e adjusting, t e scale is locked wit t e
wing nut.
T e working dept indicator (in front of t e arrow, in t e centre) can be adjusted to s ow t e true
dept in centimetres. After you ave adjusted t e arrow to desired dept , measure t e true working
dept from t e tilled soil be ind t e arrow. T e scale is set to indicate t e same working dept .
Loosen t e locking bolt of t e scale (point 2), using a 17 mm key, and turn t e scale.

4.7. Using the levelling boards
T e purpose of t e levelling boards is to crus clods and even out t e level c anges of t e surface of
t e field. A correctly adjusted levelling board crus es and mills clods but does not gat er a large wall of
soil in front. T is also creates fuel savings as t e excessive use of t e levelling board requires a great
deal of power from t e tractor.
Basic adjustment:
T e rod of t e arrow cylinders is t readed so t at t e sections can be adjusted to t e same position.
T e adjustment is carried out by loosening t e lock nut (36 mm key) and rotating t e piston rod (point
2, 24 mm key). Lengt ening t e rod raises t e front levelling board and s ortening it lowers t e board.
Before making any adjustments, we recommend to tillage for a w ile and sync ronize t e levelling
board. T is ensures t at t e misalignment of t e levelling boards is not caused by t e differences
between t e cylinders.
Basic height adjustment:
C anging t e eig t level can be done by opening two bolts from eac attac ment brackets (point 1
above). Wit t e ig position, t e front levelling board is more vertical and it breaks, for instance,
slaked surface better. Wit t e low position, t e levelling board mills t e clods smaller more efficiently.
Factory setting is at t e ig position. It is recommended for almost all conditions. Lower position can
be considered on very s allow cultivation.

T e relation between t e front and rear levelling boards in Optima T arrows can be quickly c anged by
using t e crank adjustment at t e back end of t e arrow. T e adjustment position can be seen from
t e scale.
4.8. Using the rear harrow
T e purpose of t e rear arrow is to even out t e ridges caused by t e s-tine arrow and to sort out t e
soil material in t e tilled layer. T e rear arrow sorts out t e small crumbs to t e bottom of t e tilled
layer and moves t e large ones to t e surface. As a result, t e tilled layer does not evaporate t e
moisture and endures t e effects of rain wit out slaking.
Angle adjustment:
T e angle of t e rear arrow is adjusted from t e arrow fixing piece using t e adjusting pin (point 1).
T e rear arrow as t ree different positions. W en t e tines of t e rear arrow are at t eir most vertical
position in relation to t e ground, t e arrow sorts out t e fine material most efficiently to seeding
dept and produces t e most even result. By making t e angle of t e rear arrow less steep, t e
passing of plant residue is improved. If necessary, t e rear arrow can be locked up by turning t e tines
backward to t e front and locking t em to t is position wit an adjustment pin or by setting t e lower
limiter sufficiently ig .
Height adjustment:
T e eig t is adjusted so t at t e tines of t e arrow even out t e ridges left by t e s-tines, but do not
leave any grooves. T e lowest position can be limited wit position of t e pins 2. Bot ends of t e
arrow section must be set to t e same level.
T e tilling power of t e arrow can be increased by limiting t e upwards movement by setting anot er
pin above t e bar. T is s ould be used carefully and only on even fields. NB. Harrow must be able to
rise up so t at it will never ave to bear t e weig t of t e arrow. It is recommended to place t e upper
pins to t e ig est position oles and leave t e arrow to work on its own weig t.
