What You Need
Connect the controller to an Ethernet network using Ethernet port 1 on the
controller front panel.
Use a standard Category 5 (CAT-5) or better Ethernet cable to connect the controller
to an Ethernet hub.
You can start setting up devices independently from NI InsightCM Server. However, to
complete the setup, NI InsightCM Server must be online. The following flowchart shows
how the device setup depends on NI InsightCM Server.
This document prompts you to complete the server-related steps when necessary to
continue setting up the device.
1. This document assumes the device is mounted as desired. For physical dimensions and
mounting instructions, refer to the Maintaining Hardware document, available by visiting
ni.com/info and entering insightcmdocs.
2. This document assumes the device is unwired. If the device is already connected to
the network, a power source, and sensors, proceed to step 4.

What You Need
Connect the controller to an Ethernet network using Ethernet port 1 on the
controller front panel.

The rest of the setup process requires assistance from a server administrator with
permission to add and configure devices in the NI InsightCM web application:
1. Ask the server administrator to add the device to the NI InsightCM web application.
2. Ask the administrator if you need to manually provision the device with an IP address
or credentials. If so, obtain a USB drive that contains the connection information file.
Wire sensors to C Series modules installed in the device chassis.
In a CMS-9036 device, only connect tachometers to the module in slot 1.
In an IR-3120 device, you only need to connect cameras.

When you apply power to the controller, it starts up:
1. The POWER LED is lit while the device is powered on to indicate that the power
supply connected to the chassis is adequate.
2. After the device boots, the USER1 LED flashes steadily to indicate normal operation.
If you have access to the NI InsightCM web application, make sure the device connects to
NI InsightCM Server successfully:
1. Browse to http://serverHostname:82 in a web browser on the same network
as NI InsightCM Server.
2. Log in to the NI InsightCM web application.
3. Expand the Configuration pull-down menu and click Devices. Verify the device appears
with a status of Online.

1. Connect the chassis grounding terminal to the grounding electrode system of your facility.
2. Connect the positive lead of the power source to either V terminal on the power
connector plug, and the negative lead to the C terminal.
If instructed by the server administrator, complete the following steps to manually
provision the device:
1. Insert the USB drive with the connection information in the USB port on the controller.
2. The USER1 LED lights solid, which indicates that the device is reading network and
connection properties.
You can remove the USB drive when the USER1 LED returns to blinking steadily.

Caution The C terminals are internally connected to each other.
