Installation Pointers
When determining location o the unit, try to place the solar attic an on the south side o the roo , also consider
potential problems such as objects shading the unit during certain times o the day. The unit should also be
centered on the roo and the center o the unit should be about 2 eet down rom the roo ridge.
Choose location or solar vent unit, south exposure is best. I a southern ex-
posure is not easible or your installation, the an can be installed on any
other exposure and the solar panel adjusted to capture maximum sunlight.
Step 1
Hammer a nail at the center o the location chosen between ra ters or the
solar attic an unit. The center o the unit should be about 2 eet down
rom the ridge. Attach a string to the nail. Measure 9.5” o string and attach
a marking pen to the string, see diagram. Scribe a 19” circle onto the roo
shingles or use the template created earlier.

Step 2
With a reciprocating saw, cut the diameter o the hole.
IMPORTANT: The solar attic an must be installed between the roo
ra ters or over a roo ra ter. DO NOT CUT THROUGH ANY FRAMING
MEMBER.
Step 3
Roo ra ters are generally 16” or 24” on center. On 16” on center
construction, the installer can either cut a 14” hole between the ra ters or
cut a 19” hole with the roo ra ter running through the cut hole - do not
cut the ra ter (see diagram). On 24” on center construction, center the an
between the ra ters. NEVER CUT THROUGH ANY ROOF RAFTERS. LEAVE
ALL FRAMING MEMBERS IN PLACE. Only remove roo sheathing.
Step 4

RAFTERS
With a razor kni e, cut a our inch slit through the shingles and tar paper
at the three and nine o’clock position o the lashing. This allows or the
oot print o the lashing to be inserted under the shingles.
NOTE: I a 14” hole was cut instead o a 19” hole in Step 3,
additional shingles may also need to be removed on the
high side towards the ridge to allow the lashing to slide
over the hole (see inset Illustration).
Step 5
16” ON CENTER INSTALL

Insert the reciprocating saw blade sideways at the three o’clock position
and commence cutting the roo ing nails up and around to the nine o’clock
position. This process removes the nails that will prevent the
lashing oot print rom sliding up underneath the shingles.
Step 6
Caulk underside o lashing with the provided caulking material. Two
concentric rings o caulking material is su icient.
NOTE: Installation on tile roo s will require the use o a skirt.
Step 7
Taking care not to smear caulk on the exposed shingles, slide lashing
under tar paper and shingles and orce lashing up until the shingles come
in contact with the raised portion o the lashing. The bottom side o the
lashing will be on top o the shingles. Secure lashing with our Phillips
head screws at the 3:00, 6:00, 9:00 and 12:00 positions. The 3:00 and
9:00 positions screws should go under the shingles. The 6:00 and 12:00
position screws should go on top o the shingles.
Step 8
At the 6:00 and 12:00 positions, caulk over the screw head, since it will be
exposed to the weather. Use remaining caulk to seal the areas where the
4” slits were made and around the area where the shingles meet with the
raised area o the lashing.
Step 9
Loosen, but do not remove, the screw on the clip/screw assembly located
on each side o the solar panel bracket. Adjust the solar panel to the
position it will collect the most sunlight throughout the day. Tighten screws
at the desired position.
Step 10

This Natural Light Solar Attic Fan has a 25 year warranty
on the housing, the solar panel and the motor.

YOUR SOLAR ATTIC FAN IS INSTALLED. This card will serve as proo o your purchase,
should you misplace your original invoice.
The manu acturer warrants this product to be ree rom de ects in material
and manu acturer’s workmanship or a period o 25 years on the motor, the solar
panel and the housing, rom the date o installation. This warranty is subject to
proper installation o the unit in accordance with the manu acturer’s written
installation instructions. The manu acturer will not be liable or any special, incidental
or consequential damages in any way related to, or arising out o , de ects in,
or damage to, the solar attic an.
This warranty gives you speci ic legal rights, and you may have other rights which vary rom
state to state concerning exclusion or limitation o incidental or consequential damages.
