1INTRODUCTION
This document describes how to configure NCR 7895 scanner with RS232 communication
interface and its parameters.
2SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
2.1 NCR 123Scan Configuration Utility

3RS232 CONFIGURATION PROCEDURES
There are two ways to configure the 7895 scanner with RS232 interface:
(A) via NCR 123Scan Configuration Utility
(B) via 7895 Programming barcodes

3.1 Configuration via NCR 123Scan Utility
PRECONDITION:
➢Latest NCR 123Scan Configuration Utility is pre-installed in PC/POS
terminal.
STEPS:
1. Using a USB communication cable, connect the NCR 7895 scanner to a
computer or POS terminal and boot up the scanner. The scanner produces three
incrementing beeps after booting up.
2. Launch NCR 123Scan Configuration Utility.
3. To create configuration file with default settings,
a. Click “Create new configuration file” menu (new Untitled tab will be
created)
b. Select “My scanner is connected via USB cable” option.

c. Select 7895 latest Firmware Plug-in (Configuration wizard will
automatically show)
d. Set Configuration name following the naming convention below.
•Configuration name MUST start with NCR7895
•Configuration name MUST end with CFG
Example: NCR7895_DF_CFG
e. Add Notes for brief description of the configuration file (optional).
f. Proceed to step 5.
4. To create configuration file based on the scanner’s current settings,
a. Click “Clone/modify my connected scanner settings” menu. Scanner’s
current configuration file summary will show.
b. Click “Start configuration wizard >>”.
c. Proceed to step 5.
5. On the left menu, click “2. Cable connection”. USB options will be shown on
the right by default.
6. Click “+add cable” then select “Single RS232C”.

7. On Single RS232C tab, set the following configurations:
(*) Default values
a. Basic Settings:
•Set as reboot default: Enabled (tick the checkbox to enable)
•RS232 Host Type: NCR Host
•Baud Rate: 9600 *
•Parity: Odd *
•Stop Bits: One Stop Bit *
•Data Bits: Seven Bits *
b. NCR Host settings:
•NCR Use Prefix: Enable *
Note: If customer doesn’t use prefix, disable this setting.
•NCR Use BCC: Enable *
Note: If NCR Interface is Scanner Only, disable BCC, if
Scanner/Scale, enable BCC.
•NCR Interface: Scanner Only or Scanner/Scale *
•NCR Prefix: 1002 *(prefix 02)
Note: Set parameter to blank if customer doesn’t use prefix.
•NCR Suffix: 1003 *(terminator byte 03)
•NCR Label ID mode: NCR Mode *

8. Select other menu options on the left to set other needed configurations (e.g.
symbologies, scale parameters, etc.), else proceed to step 9.
9. Load new configurations to the scanner. Select “9. Load and print” (left
menu) then click Load to scanner (right menu, either of the menu buttons
below).

Note: To save configuration file, click Save to PC.
10. Select scanner to load and configuration upload will start automatically.
11. Once configuration upload is completed, click Close button.
12. Close the NCR 123Scan Configuration Utility (scanner automatically reboots)
13. Remove power from the 7895 scanner then connect it to the POS with RS232
cable (replacing USB cable).
14. Supply power to the 7895 scanner device. The scanner produces three
incrementing beeps after booting up.
15. Launch any Serial application with correct com port settings then perform
tests on the 7895 scanner (ex. barcode scanning, commands sending, etc.).

3.2 Configuration via Programming Barcodes
PRECONDITION:
➢Print the 7895 programming barcodes in this section.
STEPS:
1. Using a RS232/Serial communication cable, connect the NCR 7895 scanner to
a computer or POS terminal and boot up the scanner. The scanner produces
three incrementing beeps after booting up.
2. Scan the following barcode to set RS232 Host Type to “NCR Host” interface
and activate RS232 driver.
3. Set the RS232 parameters for NCR Host:
(*) Default values; no need to change unless needed
•Baud Rate: 9600 *
•Parity: Odd *
•Stop Bits: One Stop Bit *
•Data Bits: Seven Bits *
•NCR Use Prefix: Enable *
Note: If customer doesn’t use prefix, disable this setting. Scan the
following barcodes to enable/disable NCR Prefix.

•NCR Use BCC: Enable *
Note: If NCR Interface is Scanner Only, disable BCC, if Scanner/Scale,
enable BCC. Scan the following barcodes to enable/disable NCR BCC.
•NCR Interface: Scanner/Scale
Scan the following barcodes to configure NCR Interface.

•NCR Prefix: 1002 *(prefix 02)
•NCR Suffix: 1003 *(terminator byte 03)
•NCR Label ID mode: NCR Mode *
4. Launch any Serial application with correct com port settings then perform
tests on the 7895 scanner (ex. barcode scanning, commands sending, etc.).
Note: If the serial application is not able to detect the 7895 scanner, reboot
the scanner to re-enumerate the device.
