Eco Dipper-Wagtail
Nest Box
A1DIPZZZZ
Thank you for purchasing this Eco Dipper-Wagtail
Nest Box.
The box has been designed to be easy to mount beneath
bridges and provide a nest site for both dippers and grey
wagtails. The Eco Dipper - Wagtail Nest Box is made enre-
ly from recycled plasc board all xed together using tabs
which means there are no nails or staples to rust or cor-
rode.
Dippers and grey wagtails almost invariably build their
nests by or over running water and frequently use man-
made structures such as walls and bridges on which to nest
and roost. Even when natural sites exist these birds have
oen been found to prefer bridges and on lowland rivers,
bridges may provide the only suitable nest sites. Whilst old
stone bridges and steel girder bridges oen provided crev-
ices and ledges on which dippers and wagtails could nest,
modern bridges, especially those made of concrete, do not
provide the same range of nest and roost sites. Nest boxes
are readily occupied by both species. The provision of nest
boxes on bridges can help to sustain and in some instances
has been shown to have increased breeding populaons.
Whilst both grey wagtails and dippers use similar nest sites
they don’t defend a territory against each other and have
been recorded nesng within a few metres. So if both spe-
cies are present it may be worthwhile pung up two box-
es at opposite ends of the same bridge and if you are lucky
they may both be occupied. Its best to posion the box a
few metres above the water level to reduce the risk of it
being submerged during oods. The box is designed with
an angled back to deect the ow around the box and re-
duce the chance of it being damaged or swept away by
rivers in spate. When mounng this box close to ood
prone rivers it should be posioned with the hole of the
box facing downstream.

Assembly instrucons
The Eco Dipper-Wagtail Nest Box is sup-
plied atpacked but is designed to be
quick and easy to make into the box.
Check you have all the parts of the box. The centre panel has 6 tabs on each side which t
through the slots in the side panels. Before the three
panels can be put together the tabs on the centre pan-
el need to be bent slightly. One side of the central
panel has two trenches cut into it and the other does
not. With the trenches facing up, push the tabs down
and away from you . They only need bending by about
20 degrees so they t through the slots in the side

Finally to nish o the box and get it ready to mount
in posion bend the mounng brackets out ward so
so they are about at 90 degrees. Then x the box in
posion with the supplied stainless steel screws or a
suitable alternave depending on the surface the
box its being aached to.
Next aach the three panels together. Start by bending
the centre panel along the trenches (the trenches
should face into the box) so the tabs line up with the
slots in the side panels. With the slots lined up push the
side panels on to the centre panel. The side panels
should have the trenches near the mounng holes fac-
ing outwards. When the panels are all together bend
the tabs back to their original posion to hold the box
together.
