The photos above reveal the human body’s preferred posture, called Neutral Posture.
Research by Dr. Jerome J. Congleton, P.E., C.P.E., established the potential for the comfort and
health benets of this space-age posture for the seated worker on Earth.
Dr. Congleton combined patented, contoured seat designs with 10 active ergonomic
adjustment features (see callouts - left) to create a chair that will transform your daily,
seated work life. Adjustability, and this more open trunk–thigh angle, deliver exceptional
comfort and a life-changing foundation of healthful back and body support. It is actually
registered with the FDA as a medical device.
Your chair should be adjusted frequently during long periods of sitting, and as you include the
Neutral Posture Position among the variations, you will reduce or eliminate body aches at work.

1Seat Height: This is your rst adjustment to ensure that your feet are rmly on
the oor while seated.
HOW TO: Middle lever (right side) activates height cylinder. While out of chair, lift
lever and chair rises. Lift lever while seated, and seat height sinks. The cylinder
on your NP chair has a lifetime warranty.
Seat Depth: Ensure proper seat depth with 2" adjustability.
HOW TO: While seated, lift up the lever on the left side of your chair and lean
your back against the backrest and then shift your hips forward or backward to
achieve the proper seat depth.
Seat Angle: Your chair allows changes in seat angle or rocking.
HOW TO: Push down on the front lever (right side) to adjust forward or rearward
seat tilt, rocking and locking. Find desired seat tilt and lift the lever to lock it in
place. When fully down, lever allows free-oat rocking (see seat tilt tension).
Seat Tilt Tension (not pictured): Adjusts rocking resistance to your weight.
HOW TO: Tighten or loosen knob located under the front of the seat.
NOTE: Tension knob turns most easily when seat is tilted fully forward. Always
make this adjustment while in front of the chair, never while seated.
Backrest Angle: Your chair provides a 24° range of backrest angle adjustment.
HOW TO: While seated, lift rear lever (right side) to release back from its locked
position and move your body to desired back angle position. Once you are
satised with back angle position, return lever to down/locked position.
Backrest Height: Your chair has a 4” range of backrest height adjustability.
HOW TO: While seated, reach behind you and lift backrest slowly with both
hands. Each “click” is a ½” increment in the 8-position range. To reset to lowest
starting height, lift to top and then gently lower it back to its lowest position.

Inatable Lumbar Support: If your NP chair has the inatable lumbar, you are
able to ne-tune lumbar rmness by inating the built-in pillow.
HOW TO: Locate the small lever protruding at bottom right side of backrest. Lift
the lever slowly and repeatedly to inate lumbar pillow. To deate, depress and
hold.
NOTE: NPS6000 series has a bulb on the back outer instead of a lever. Depress
bulb to inate, and depress release valve at base of bulb to deate.
Armrest Height: Your chair has a 4” range of arm height.
HOW TO: Squeeze button on outside of arm to release and position height.
There are 10 positive-lock height settings.
Armrest Pivot/Angle: Your chair arms allow 360° rotation, with 24 position locks.
HOW TO: Squeeze the lever under the front edge of the pad upward to release
and position arm pad in one of the positive-lock angles. Adjust pad to the angle
most favorable to your task and need for arm support.
Arm Pad Movement: 1” Width & 2” Fore/Aft
HOW TO: Squeeze the button on the edge of the pad to release and position
the pad for both width and depth. Inward width brings pad closer to your torso.
Depth creates a short end forward for closer workspace access.
Arm Post Width: 4” Range
HOW TO: Locate the lever against the bottom of each arm post, and push it
down to release and position desired arm width. To lock arm width, lift the lever
again. If the width setting seems call your Neutral Posture representative to
discuss the simple tightening procedure.
Forward Tilt stop: Your chair seat tilts forward up to 10° which, when combined
with opening the back angle, allows you to sit in a more open (i. e. neutral) pos-
ture, but it can be locked out so it won't tilt past horizontal.
HOW TO: Recline seat angle slightly (see seat angle-#3), and then turn the
control to horizontal to lock out forward tilt. To allow forward tilt, turn control
vertically.

Guidelines to Remember
• The computer screen should be positioned to avoid glare.
• Avoid high luminance sources in the peripheral eld of the
computer user and the display (e.g. monitor).
• The head should be tilted 15 degrees forward or less to maintain
a vertical position.
• The elbows should be kept close in to the body or supported.
• Wrists and hands should be kept in a neutral/natural position.
• The keyboard slope should not be between 0˚ and 15˚ negative.
• Fingers on the home row of a keyboard should be approximately
0 to +1.5 inches below elbow rest height.
• The lumbar curve should be maintained.
• The backrest should support the lower back area and not interfere
with turning motion.
• The edge of seat pan should be between 2” and 4” from the soft
tissue area behind the knee (popliteal area).
• Feet should never dangle and should always be supported.

Lifetime Warranty
Neutral Posture, Inc. (NP) warrants all Neutral Posture® Seating and N·hancements® Accessories to
be free from defects in workmanship and materials under normal use for the product’s lifetime.
Normal use is dened as wear which occurs in an oce environment during the course of a
normal single-shift workday (8 hours/per day/5 days per week).
This lifetime warranty shall be for all lines and components except as noted: chair controls, arms
and plastic components are warranted for ten (10) years. Fabric is warranted for three (3) years.
The fabric warranty does not include leather, Ultra-leather™, NovaSuede®, UltraSuede®, Finesse® or
COM and COL. The inatable lumbar is covered for ve (5) years.
NP’s warranty obligation is limited to the replacement or repair, at NP’s option, of defective
products which have been reported by the original purchaser to be defective in workmanship
or material and which are found to be so by NP upon inspection. Defective products shall be
returned at the discretion of the factory, and all returns must be authorized in advance. NP will
assume no responsibility for any labor charges unless agreed to in writing by NP’s Corporate
Oce.
Freight for products and parts covered under warranty will be at NP’s expense for the forty-eight
(48) contiguous states, with the method of shipping at Neutral Posture’s discretion.
The user shall be responsible for all maintenance service, which includes: lubricating and
cleaning of the product, assembly, adjustment and performing operation checks.
NP will have no warranty obligation if the product is subjected to abuse, alteration, misuse,
negligence or accident or if the user fails to perform the maintenance service referred to above.
The warranty printed above is the only warranty applicable to these products. All other
warranties, expressed or limited, including, but not limited to, the implied warranties of
merchantability and tness for a particular purpose are disclaimed.
Continuous-Shift Operations
The continuous-shift warranty covers all components of the chair for a period of ve (5) years
from the date of purchase except for upholstery and inatable lumbar. Only upholstery with a
doublerub rating of over 1M is warranted for the complete 5-year period. Neutral Posture
products not subject to the terms of our continuous-shift warranty, but used in such an
environment (exceeding 8 hours per day/5 days per week), are to be free from defects in
workmanship and materials for a period of two (2) years. Neutral Posture shall have no warranty
obligation if the product is subjected to abuse, alteration, misuse, negligence or accident. All
other terms and conditions of our lifetime single-shift warranty apply.
