PRECAUTIONARY WARNING!
Please read and understand all operation instructions as
detailed in this manual. Failure to follow specified instructions
may result in equipment damage or serious injury to personnel
up to and including death!
ALWAYS STRAIN THE PAINT. Field marking paint often has
oversized material, lumps, and debris. If not strained, these
contaminates will be drawn into the hoses and gun, and may
restrict paint flow.
THIN THE PAINT, as per manufacturer’s recommendations prior
to use. Almost all field-marking paints MUST BE THINNED before
use with the FieldLiner 3™. These paints are typically thinned at a
minimum ratio of 1:1. Follow suggested paint thinning
guidelines per the paint manufacturer’s instructions.
NEVER perform maintenance on the machine while the system is
pressurized.
NEVER use any kind of tool to tighten the pump.
NEVER use tools or excessive force to close pump lid.
NEVER pressurize the unit above 35 psi.
Please note that modifying, changing or servicing any portion of
the machine, system or components outside of the procedures
and parts outlined in the owner’s manual will VOID the
warranty.
Always consult your Facility Safety and/or Personnel
Department for specified safety protocols prior to operating
this equipment.

OPERATION
1. Open the paint tank by turning the pump/lid
handle counter-clockwise until it is loose, and
then remove the pump from the tank.
2. Replace the pump/lid assembly into the tank.
Turn the pump handle clockwise until snug. DO
NOT OVER TIGHTEN. Never use any kind of tool
to tighten the pump lid.
3. Operate the hand pump up and down until the
desired pressure is reached. The pressure used
is dependent on many factors, including type of
paint, viscosity, ambient temperature, etc. A
little experimenting will be necessary, but the
normal pressure range is 20 - 30 psi. NEVER
PRESSURIZE ABOVE 35 PSI.
4. Check for any leaks. The pump/lid should seal
with normal hand pressure. Never use pry bars,
other tools, or excessive force to close. If
necessary, clean the gasket and gasket seating
area and lubricate or replace the gasket.
5. Position the spray nozzle where the painted line
is to begin. Pull the control lever. An even flow
of paint should spray from the nozzle. It might
be necessary to thin the paint or increase the
pressure to get the proper pattern.
6. The spray pattern can be adjusted from 2" to 6"
by moving the spray gun up or down on the
support arm
7. When low on paint the unit will begin to
“sputter" and paint will come out unevenly. To
refill, turn the knob counter-clockwise 1/4 turn
on the pressure relief valve to release the tank
pressure. Turn the pump/lid handle counter-
clockwise and remove it from the tank. Refill
the tank with properly thinned, strained paint
and re-pressurize
9. To use the spray gun as a hand sprayer, remove
the gun from the gun mount and un-strap the
hose from the handle. Depress the lever on the
gun to spray. After use, coil the hose and secure
it to the handle with the Velcro strap and then
return the gun to the gun mount.
OPERATIONAL NOTES!
If this is your first time, use water to practice.
NEVER Pressurize above 35 psi.
Never use any kind of tool to tighten the pump lid.
Lubricate the lid gasket with petroleum jelly.
Never try to open the tank when it is pressurized.
ALWAYS strain the paint.

CLEANING PROCEDURES
CLEAN AFTER EVERY USE!
1. When your painting job is complete, empty the tank of unused paint. To do this, relieve the tank pressure by turning
the knob 1/4 turn counter-clockwise on the pressure relief valve.
2. Disconnect the paint hose at the spray gun and place the open end in a container you wish to save the paint in.
Pressurize the tank to 2-3 psi and the paint will be pumped from tank into the container. After the paint has been
drained, reconnect the hose to the spray gun.
3. Pour 1-2 gallons of water into the tank and swab the inside with a rag. Re-pressurize the tank and force the liquid
through the system by pulling the control lever. Repeat the above procedure until no residue of paint is shown in
the liquid. Operate the spray nozzle until the gun is cleared of all paint.
4. Remove the nozzle cap and nozzle from the spray gun and clean them thoroughly.
5. Clean and rinse the exterior of the machine. Pressure washing is not recommended. Use soapy water (dishwashing
detergent or Simple Green) once each week.

TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
PROBLEM
REMEDY
Paint leaving the nozzle in a stream
instead of a spray
1. Check the thickness of paint. Thin the paint if needed.
2. Check if the paint tank pressure is low. Re-pressurize if
needed.
The spray is inconsistent/does not
spray
1. Check the nozzle for an obstruction. Remove the nozzle
to clean it, or replace it if necessary.
2. Check for an obstruction in the tank outlet. Remove the
paint and clean the tank. Run 2-3 quarts of
recommended solvent or water through the system.
Strain the paint back into the tank.
3. The control cable may be out of adjustment. Adjust the
cable so that the gun lever is properly depressed.
4. Check the strainer (inside the gun body) for an
obstruction. Clean if needed.
The spray pattern is too narrow or too
wide
1. Move the gun up to make the spray pattern wider.
2. Move the gun down to make the spray pattern
narrower
3. Select a different nozzle if the above steps do not
achieve the desired results.
The paint is too thick
Thin the paint by water at a rate of 1/4 cup per gallon (2
ounces) at a time. Cold temperatures (50-65 degrees) will
require more thinning of the paint.
The pump is hard to operate
Lubricate the pump leather through hole in the pump nut
where the pump rod goes through, with a few drops of oil.
Air leaks from the pump lid
1. Tighten the lid. Turn the pump D-handle clockwise until
snug. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN.
2. Check the pump gasket for build-up, clean and
lubricate the gasket or replace it if necessary.
3. The pump gasket is worn, hardened, or cracked.
Replace the gasket.
The pump will not pressurize the tank
Check the pump gasket, pump valve, and pump leather.
Disassemble the pump and inspect all of the parts. Clean and
lubricate, or replace if worn.
The paint drips from the nozzle after
releasing the control lever
1. Check the control cable adjustment. Adjust the cable at
the spray gun mount if needed.
2. Check the spray gun to make sure it is closing properly.
Clean or replace the gun if necessary.
