Phonak Marvel digital hearing aids are specically designed for
children and use Bluetooth connectivity to pair (connect) with
electronic devices like smartphones and tablets.
The hearing aid performance however will not be affected
should parents/children choose not to make use of the
connectivity.
These hearing aids also come in a rechargeable model (Phonak
Marvel PR)
Important
These hearing aids are very expensive. Should they be lost or
damaged we cannot guarantee replacement with an identical
device. A hearing aid that does not have the Bluetooth
connectivity/non-rechargeable model may be supplied as a
replacement.
Bluetooth connectivity
To use a paired device to:
• control hearing aid volume
• monitor hearing aid usage
• monitor battery life
• stream audio and media directly through the hearing aids
• receive phone calls directly through the hearing aids
Phonak Marvel hearing aids are Bluetooth 4.2 certied and
are compatible with a wide range of electronic devices (for

4
instance iPhones and iPads, Android smartphones, laptops and
computers).
Please note:
Any phone supporting Bluetooth 2.1 and newer should work for
phone calls. Phones with Bluetooth versions before 2.1 may still
work depending on the model.
When using the myPhonak app, the phone/device must full the
following minimal requirements:
o iOS version 12.0 and Bluetooth version 4.2 or newer (for
Apple products)
o Android version 7.0 and Bluetooth version 4.2 or newer (for
Android products)
Connectivity is dependent on the device manufacturer. For more
information please contact the manufacturer of the device you
intend to use these hearing aids with.

The Phonak Marvel PR is the rechargeable model of hearing aid
currently being used at the Children’s Hearing Centre.
It suitable for children with a mild to moderate hearing loss.
The rechargeable battery is locked within the hearing aid making
it very safe for younger children as the battery cannot be removed.
On/off button
Pressing the bottom button for 3 seconds will turn the hearing aids
on or off.
A solid green light indicates they have turned on.
A solid red light indicates they have turned off.
Battery charger
A charger is provided with the hearing aids. It is powered by USB-c
and can be plugged into a standard power outlet or into a USB
device such as a laptop or desktop computer.
A full charge will provide the hearing aids with a whole day of
battery life (including the time spent streaming via the Bluetooth
function).
It is recommended that the hearing aids are
charged every night regardless of their current
charge. Keeping this regular routine will help
ensure the aids do not run at at inconvenient
times.
To charge the hearing aids insert them into the
charging device and switch on. The hearing aids will:

• turn on automatically when removed from the charger (this is
optional and can be changed in the software)
• turn off automatically whilst charging.
We request you take good care of the charger as it may not be
possible to replace the charger at short notice should it become
damaged.
Light indicators and battery life
It
has lights which indicates the following:
• a ashing red light indicates low charge
• a ashing orange light indicates up to 80% charge and will take
approximately 90 minutes to reach full charge
• a ashing green light indicates close to full charge
• a solid green light indicates full charge and will take
approximately 3 hours to fully charge.
60 minutes of charging will provide 50% charge which will be
6

7
enough for several hours of usage - should it be required at
short notice.
Pairing
Phonak Marvel hearing aids can be paired to a device through
the Bluetooth menu. This process may vary amongst devices
however the process should be no different to pairing any other
type of Bluetooth product.
Streaming
The hearing aids will act as a ‘hands free’ device once they are
connected. The sound produced by the paired device can play
through the hearing aids, for instance; music, phone calls, games
and notications.
To control which sounds play through the hearing aids, it is
recommended you explore the device’s audio options. These
options will vary between devices.
Most devices will allow you to change between media and
phone calls so, for example, media such as music will play
through the device while phone calls will play through the
hearing aids.
Notication settings
It is highly recommended that you explore the notications
settings on your device to control which ones play through the
hearing aids. Notications that occur regularly may interfere
with listening and it is recommended that these notications are
turned off to make listening easier.

8
Streaming controls
While streaming, the buttons on the back of the hearing aids
can be used for volume control and a mute/unmute function:
While streaming from a device the hearing aids reduce the
volume of environmental sounds in order to avoid too much
sound in the ear.
This means that while your child is streaming they cannot hear
other’s speaking clearly and may miss sounds around them like
trafc noise. It is therefore important to teach your child when
it is a safe and appropriate time to stream.
It is strongly recommended that children avoid streaming audio
and media when in the classroom. If volume control is necessary
in the classroom, children are able to do this without the use of
Bluetooth.
Phone calls
During phone calls the hearing aids will play all sounds
directly for greater sound quality. The hearing aids also act
as a microphone to receive the wearers own voice - therefore
speaking into the phone is not necessary.

9
Phone calls can be answered, ended, and rejected by using the
two buttons on the back of the hearing aids as pictured below:
Flight mode
As the hearing aids use Bluetooth they must be set to ‘Flight
Mode’ when requested on an aeroplane. In order to do this:
• hold the bottom button on the back of the hearing aid for
7 seconds. A solid orange light will appear.
It is only necessary to perform this action on one hearing aid,
the other will follow suit automatically. The hearing aids will
continue to work normally however all Bluetooth features will
be disabled.
• To deactivate Flight mode and return to normal function,
again hold the bottom button for 7 seconds.
• Alternatively, turning the hearing aids off and on again
will also deactivate Flight Mode.
