[I] Turn the camera off, remove the body cap, a nd de ta ch the rear lens cap.
[[] Position the lens on the ca mera body, keeping the mounting mark
on the l ens aligned with the mounting mark on the camera body,
a nd then rotate the l ens cou nte rclock wi se until it dicksinto pl ace.

[I] Turn the camera o ff .
[[] Pr ess and hold thelens release button whileturning thelens clockwise.
(1) Before Use
The lens is retractable and must be extended befo re use. Rota te the zoom ri ng as
shown until the lens clicks into the extended position . Pictures can only be taken
when the focal length mark points to positions between 14 and 30 on the foca l
length scale.
To retract the lens, rotate the zoom ring in the opposite direction, stopping when
you reach the (eJ posit i on on the focal length scale.
If the camera is turned on with the l ens retrac t ed, a warning will be displayed.
Extend the lens befo re use.

and then rotate rhe hood (8 ) unril rhe • mark is aligned wirh rhe lens hood
lock mark (O).
To remove the hood, reverse the above steps.

When attaching or removing the hood, hold it near the • symbol on its base and avoid
gripping it too ti ghtly. The hood can be r eversed and mounted on t he lens when not
in use
IWhen the Lens Is Attached
The focus position may change if you turn t he camera off and then on aga in after
focusing. Refocus before shooting. If you have focused on a pre-selected location while
wa i ting for your subje<ttoappear, we recommend t hat you do not turn the camera off
until the pictu re is taken.
Precautions for Use
• Do not pick up or hold t he lens or camera using only the lens hood .
• Keep the CPU contacts clean .
• Should t he rubber lens-moun t gasket be damaged, cease use immediately and take
the lens to aNi kon-authorized service center for repair.
• Replace the fron t and rear lens caps when the lens is no t in use.
• To protect the interior of the lens, store it out of direct sunlight.
• Keep the lens dry. Rusting of the in t ernal mechanism can cause irreparable damage.
• Leaving the lens in extremely hot locations could damage or warp parts made from
reinforced plast i c.
• Rapid changes in temperatu re may cause damaging condensation inside and outside
the l ens . Before taking the l ens from a warm to a cold environment or vice versa, pl ace
it in its case or a plastic bag to slow the change in temperature
• We recommend that you place the lens in its case to protect it from scratches du r ing
transport.
lens Care
• Removing dust is normally sufficient to cl ean the glass surfaces of the lens
• Smudges and fingerprints can be removed from fluorine-coated lens elements us-
ing a soft, clean cotton cl oth or l ens cleaning tissue; clean from the center outwards
using a circular motion. To remove stubborn sta i ns, wipe gent ly using a soft cloth
lightly dampened with a small amount of dis t illed water, ethanol,or l ens cleaner. Any
drop-shaped mark.s left from this process on the water- and oil-repellent surface can
subsequently be removed wi th adry cloth_
• When cl eaning lens elements that are not fluorine-coated, remove smudges and fin-
gerprints using a soft, clean cotton cloth or l ens cleaning tissue lightly dampened
with a small amount of ethanol or lens cleaner. Wipe gently from the center outwards
in a circular motion, taking care not to leave smears or touch the lens with your fin -
gers
• Never use organic solvents such as pa i nt thinner or benzene to clean t he lens
• Neutral Color (NC) filters (available separately) and the like can be used to protect the
front lens el ement.
• If the lens will not be used for an extended period, store it in a cool, dry location to
prevent mold and rust. Do not store in direct sunlight or with naphtha or camphor
moth balls.
