insert the battery
1Keep the + and - on the top of the
battery facing the + and - of the phone.
2Slide the battery onto the contact points
and press it down until it clicks into place.
3Slide the battery cover into place.
remove the battery and cover
1Press the release key and gently slide
the battery cover from the phone.
2Lift the battery out of the phone.
charge the battery
The first charge must be for a minimum of
three hours in order to achieve optimum
performance. Subsequent charges should
be three hours if the battery
is completely flat. You can
make calls while charging as
long as you have registered
with Orange, although this
may increase the time
needed to fully charge
your battery.
1Plug your charger into a
mains socket.
2Insert the lead into the
socket on the base of
your phone. The battery
indicator on the right-hand side of the
display will show up to seven bars
while charging. Do not remove the
battery covers while charging.
3To remove the charger socket, pull the
lead away from the phone.
Rechargeable batteries have a limited
lifespan and Orange recommends that you
purchase a new one every year. Call the
Orange accessories hotline on
0500 178 178 for more details.

1 insert your SIM card
Your new SIM Card may already have been
inserted when you bought your phone.
If not, remove the SIM Card by carefully
pushing it out from the credit card sized
SIM carrier.
Slide your card under the metal holder on
your phone, with the gold contacts facing
downwards. Make sure that the cut off
corner of the SIM Card is in the top left.
3Remove the battery cover and battery and
lift up the SIM Card holder. Insert your SIM
Card so that the cut off corner is at the
bottom of the holder, and the gold
contacts of the card are facing down.
4Push the SIM Card holder down until it
clicks into place
Note: If you’ve upgraded your phone you
must insert your new SIM Card to use
Multi Media Messaging. Your Orange
phone number will not change.

When your phone is registered you will
receive one or more SIMupdates. They will
arrive as text messages and the message

If you are already an Orange customer and
wish to register an upgraded phone, please
call 0800 079 0027 from any other phone
before you make any other calls. This only
applies if your phone was not registered at
the time you bought it.
acknowledging and deleting your
SIM update
If your phone is switched on when the
message arrives you will hear a tone and
see 1 message received. If your phone is
switched off when your SIM update arrives,
you’ll hear the tone and see when you
turn the phone on.
1Press the left soft key under Show to
open and read the message.
2When you have read the message press
the left soft key under Options.
3Highlight Delete then press the left soft
key under Select. Press OK.
4You should turn your phone off and back
on again. This will enable you to make
your first call.

wish to receive any marketing material from

keep you informed of any special offers or
promotions which could save you money,
and make you aware of new services and
products that could be useful to you.
If you answer No, Orange will not
communicate with you unless it is in
connection with your own account.
If you change your mind at any time,
simply call 150.

switch your phone on
To switch your phone on press and
hold the power button , which is on the
top of your phone.
When you switch your phone on for the
first time you will be required to enter the
time and date.
Enter the time in 24hr format using the
keypad and press the soft key under
OK. Enter the date in the same way and
press under OK again.

To enter the menus, press under Menu.
Use the and keys to find your way
around the menus. Each menu has its own
set of submenus. Have a look at the menu
map overleaf for a breakdown of the
submenus.
make your selection
The soft keys control how you choose a
function. On your display you will see what
feature the soft key controls, depending on
what you are doing at the time. So, for
example, from the main display the left soft
key will access Menu and the right soft
key will access your contacts list.
To select an item from a menu, scroll to
that item using the and keys.
When the item is highlighted press
under Select. From inside the menus,
press the right soft key to return to the
previous screen.
You can also access some of your
features directly from the main display.
Press to write a text message.
Press to open your Calendar.

How do I change my phone’s ring tone?

menu. Scroll to highlight Settings and press

If you call someone and get disconnected
or forget to tell them something, you can
call them straight back by redialling the
last dialled number.
To redial the phone number last called
press twice.
To redial other numbers that were
previously dialled:
1Press once.

the and keys.

Sometimes you may need to say something
to another person that you don’t want your
caller to hear. In these cases, you can
mute your call and preserve your privacy.
1Press Options while the call is active.
2Scroll to Mute and press Select.
3Press Unmute to cancel the mute.
call back a missed number
When you miss a call a notification will
appear on your display.
1Press List to open a list of your
missed calls.
2Scroll to the number you want and press
to call the number back.
hide your number when you make
a call
Your Caller id identifies you to the person
you are calling and identifies a caller to you.
To hide your number when calling
another person,simply dial 141 before
the number.
To hide your number permanently, call
Customer Services on 150 from your
Orange phone or 07973 100 150 from any
other phone. If you are a pay as you go
customer, please call 450 from your
Orange phone. While your number is
hidden you will not be able to see the
Caller id of any incoming calls.
Note: If you are abroad, the availability of
the services described in this section
depends on the network that you are using.

To open your phonebook press .
This will open your phonebook at the first
alphabetical entry.
The quickest way to find a name is to press
the key that corresponds with the initial
letter of the name you are looking for. If you
press a key twice, quickly, you will go to
the names starting with the second letter
on the key.
You can also search by selecting Contacts
from the main menu. Press Search and key
in the name or the first few letters of the
name you are looking for. The menu will
move to the entries that match.
To call an entry in your phonebook, scroll
to the person you would like to talk to and
press .

To add a new entry to your phonebook:
1At the main display, key in the phone
number including the full area code.
Press Options and you will see Save
highlighted. Press Select.
2Key in the name. Press each key the
relevant number of times to get the letter
you need. For example, to get the letter
J press the 5 key once and to get the
letter S press the 7 key four times.
Press 0 for a space.
3Press Clear if you need to delete a
character or press and hold Clear to
delete the entire name.
4Press OK when you have finished.
The number will be saved to your
phone memory.

Orange Directory Enquiries
The new number for Directory Enquiries is
118 000. So save 118 000 to your phone now,
and it’ll be there the next time you’re out and
about and need a number in a hurry.
Otherwise, it’s the same convenient service from
Orange. Simply call 118 000 and tell the
operator the name or place you are looking for
and they will tell you the number (you can
request three numbers per call). Then, they will
send a text message to your phone at no extra
cost, allowing you to call the number directly
from the message or add it straight to your
phonebook.
Calls to Directory Enquiries are charged at 59
pence per call. If you choose to be connected
via 118 000, calls are charged at 35 pence per
minute once connected.
which phonebook should I save
my numbers in?
You can store up to 200 names and
numbers on your SIMCard. Your phone’s
internal memory is dynamic and is shared
by all your phone’s features. Therefore,
saving a high number of ring tones, for
example, may affect the number of contacts
you can store to your phone’s memory.
You will be able to access any numbers
stored in the SIM phonebook if you use your
SIM Card in another phone.
You should store contacts in your phone’s
phonebook if you wish to add extra data to
the phone number. You can personalise these
contacts in a number of ways, including
assigning ring tones and pictures to appear
when they call.

To assign an image to a contact:
1At the main display, press and select
a name to add to.
2Press Options and select Add image.
3Your Gallery will open. Select an image
to appear when that contact calls you.
You can also edit the contacts in your
phonebook.
To edit an item:
1Press to enter your phonebook.
2Scroll to the name of the person whose
details you want to edit and press
Details.
3Scroll to the name, number or other item
you want to edit and press Options.
Select Edit name/number/detail. Press
OK when you have finished editing the
item to save your changes.
4Press to return to the main display.
delete unwanted contacts from
your phonebook
1Press Contacts. Scroll to Delete and
press Select.
2Select One by one to delete a name or
names. Press Delete to delete a contact.
To delete all the contacts in your
phonebook select Delete all. Choose to
delete either Phone or SIM Card and
press Delete. Press OK to confirm your
choice.
3Enter your Security Code, which is
preset to 12345, and press OK.
For more information about your
Security code see Chapter 11 .

You can add extra numbers and
information to contacts, providing they are
stored in the phone’s memory rather than
on the SIM Card.
To add extra numbers to a name:
1At the main display, press and scroll
to the name you need to add numbers to.
2Press Details and then Options and
select Add number.
3Select a type for the number.
Choose from:
■General
■Mobile
■Home
■Office
■Fax.
4Enter the new number and press OK.
5You will see Saved to phone memory in
the display.
If a contact has extra numbers you will
need to set one of the numbers to act as a
default. This will be the number that you call
if you scroll to the contact and press .
1At the main display, press and select
a contact.
2Scroll to the appropriate number and
press Options.
3Select Set as default.
To add a website, postal address or a
note to a contact:
1At the main display, press and select
a name to add to.
2Press Options and select Add detail.
Choose from:
■Email address
■Web address
■Postal address
■Note
3Enter the information and press OK.
4You will see Saved to phone memory in
the display.

keep your phonebook organised by
dividing your contacts into groups
You can group your contacts together
and then assign different ring tones and
logos to each group to help you identify
who is calling.
1Press Menu and select Contacts, then
select Caller groups. Select the Caller
group that you want.
2Select Group name and enter a new
name. Press OK.
3Select Group ringing tone to assign the
ring tone that will sound when a member
of the group calls you. Group logo lets
you choose whether you want the group
logo to appear when you receive a call.
4Select Group members then select Add
and your phonebook will open. Scroll
through it and press Add to add a new
member. Press Options and select Add
contact to add more people to the group.
5To remove a name press Options then
select Remove contact.

Speed dialling allows you to call eight
of your most used numbers by pressing
just one key. These numbers are stored
in keys 2 to 9.
To activate Speed dialling:
1Press Menu and select Settings.
Select Call settings.
2Select Speed dialling and select On.

it's a good idea to copy numbers
from your SIM Card to your phone
It’s easy to swap all your names and
numbers from your SIM Card to your
phone’s memory or vice versa.
1Press Menu and select Contacts. Scroll
to Copy and press Select.
2Choose whether to copy your contacts
from the phone to your SIM, or from
your SIM to the phone. Press Select.
3Select how to move your contacts.
Choose from:
■One by one
Scroll to the contact you wish to
move and press Copy. Choose Keep
original to keep a copy of your
contact in the original destination, or
Move original to have a copy of your
contact only in the new destination.
Press Select. To move more of your
contacts simply repeat this step.
■All
Choose Keep original to keep a copy
of your contacts in the original
destination, or Move original to have
a copy of your contacts only in the
new destination. Press Select.
Confirm your choice by pressing OK.

information between phones
Your Nokia 3120 can send and receive
contact information in the form of business
cards via text message.
To send a business card:
1Press to enter your phonebook.
2Scroll to the name of the person
whose details you want to send and
press Details.
3Press Options and select Send bus. card.
Select Via text message.
When you receive a business card press
Show then Save when the message arrives
to save the contact to your phone’s memory.

backup your SIM Card address book
Make sure that losing your phone doesn’t
mean losing all of the important contact
information stored on your SIM Card.
Memory Mate is a new service which
ensures that the details you have stored on
your SIM Card for all of your friends,
colleagues and family are safely backed up.
So, if the worst happens, they will still be
available to you.
For a low one-off charge you can purchase
a Memory Mate card from any Orange shop
which will backup your SIM Card address
book. Then, simply return to your Orange
shop regularly to have any new information
backed up at no additional cost.
And, if you’re joining Orange from another
network, Memory Mate can be used to
transfer the contacts and text messages
saved on your old SIM Card to your new
Orange SIM Card, keeping your move
totally hassle-free.

To assign a number to a speed dial:
1Press Menu and select Contacts, then
select Speed dials. Scroll to the speed
dial key that you want to assign the
number to and press Assign.
2Press Search and choose the name and
number that you wish to assign then
press Select twice.
To make a call using speed dialling:
1Press and hold the key assigned to the
number you want.
2If speed dialling is not activated you
can still dial your contacts quickly by
pressing the location number you want
and then pressing .
To edit your speed dial numbers:
1Press Menu and select Contacts,
then select Speed dials.
2Scroll to the number you wish to edit
and press Options.
3Press Select to view, change or delete
the assigned number.
