Introduction
This document contains release notes for the BayStack Instant Internet version
7.11.2 on:
•Using Windows ME and Instant Internet
•Installing Instant Internet in a Windows NT environment
•Using Windows 2000 and Instant Internet
•Using Microsoft Internet Explorer with Web cache
•Upgrading a V.35 or X.21 unit to an S series unit

Using Windows ME and Instant Internet
Microsoft®has confirmed an issue with Windows ME and 16-bit Winsock
applications. If you are running Windows ME and experience failures for Instant
Internet utilities, you have two options:
•Download the appropriate Microsoft patch from:

MSPSS_gn_SRCH&SPR=MSALL and follow the instructions to apply the
patch to Windows ME.
•Try removing Dial-Up Networking to see if that solves the problem:
aChoose Start > Settings > Control Panel.
bClick Add/Remove Programs.
cFrom the Windows Setup tab, double click to select Communications.
dIn the Communications dialog box, uncheck Dial-Up Networking.
eClick OK.
If you continue to experience problems with Windows ME and Instant Internet
after installing the Microsoft patch, contact one of the Nortel Networks Technical
Solutions Centers. For contact information, see the manuals that came with your
Instant Internet unit.

When you install Instant Internet on a computer running Windows NT®(3.51, 4.0
or Windows 2000), you must have administrator rights on that computer.
Using Windows 2000 and Instant Internet
If you use the Windows 2000 operating system, members of your network that do
not have administrative rights may find that iiLogin cannot connect to the Instant
Internet unit. In this case, the iiLogin icon remains red instead of turning green.
You can correct this problem by logging in with administrative rights and adding a
parameter to the iiLogin command line.
To edit the iiLogin command line to correct the problem between Instant Internet
and Windows 2000:
1Right click the Start button.
2Choose Open All Users.
The Start Menu window opens for all users.
3From the Start Menu window, open the Programs folder.
4From the Programs folder, open the Startup folder.
5In the Startup folder, right click Login and select Properties.
The Login Properties dialog box opens with the Shortcut tab displayed
(Figure 1).

6In the Target field, do one of the following:
•If you have set Instant Internet to be the gateway for the computer, add
maxhops=0 (Figure 2).

•If you have not set Instant Internet to be the gateway for the computer,
add the Instant Internet unit’s IP address (Figure 3)
C:\WINNT\System32\IILOGIN.EXE xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of the Instant Internet unit, for
example: 192.168.1.1.

Using Microsoft Internet Explorer with Web cache
If you use Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.5 or older with the Web cache
functionality of Instant Internet, you may not be able to use Internet Explorer to
update the cache. In this case, you have to wait until the cache content expires.
Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 5.5 SP1 and newer have corrected this
problem.
Additionally, if you use Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.5 with the Web
cache functionality of Instant Internet and you save the Web sites configured on
the Instant Internet unit (Web Cache > Web Sites > Backup > Save) to disk,
Internet Explorer saves the Web page instead of saving the Web sites configured
on the unit.
To save the Web sites configured on the unit:
1On the unit’s Web page, click Web Cache.
2On the Web Cache page, click Web Sites.
3On the Web Sites page, click Backup.
4On the Backup Web Sites page, click Save.
The File Download dialog box opens.
5Select Open this file from its current location and click Ok.
6Do one of the following:
•If the Web cache backup list opens, choose File > Save as. Next, choose
Text File (*.txt) in the Save as file type field and click Save.
•If the File Download dialog box redisplays with the file name changed to
default, choose the Save to disk option and click OK.
The correct file is now saved to disk. However, if you saved the file as a
Text file, you will need to look for that file instead of the .wcb file for the
Restore.
Note: The name of the file to be saved should be default.wcb but it is
backup instead.

The V.35/X.21 card used on the Instant Internet 400-S unit has a universal
interface and the wiring selects the line drivers. Note that the connector on the
V.35 or X.21 card for the Instant Internet 400 models is the same as the connector
for the V.35/X.21 card for the Instant Internet 400-S model. However, the specific
cables used for each model are not compatible. Therefore, you cannot use the
same cable for your Instant Internet 400-S as you used for your Instant Internet
400 without some modification to the cable.
Setting the Aux port speed for out-of-band management
Using the configuration switches on the rear of the Instant Internet 100-S or
Instant Internet 400-S unit, you can change the Aux port connection speed from
115200 to 9600 baud in order to use a device or terminal emulation software that
does not support 115200 baud.
During the power-up sequence, your Instant Internet unit checks the settings of the
configuration switches to determine certain configurations. If switch number 4 is
on, the Aux port connection speed is set to 9600 baud. If switch number 4 is off,
the Aux port connection speed is set to 115200.
Table 1 shows the switch settings for configuring your Aux port speed to 9600
baud.
Table 2 shows the switch settings for configuring your Aux port speed to 115200
baud.

Using the IICTL program
The IICTL program is a 32-bit console program available for Windows 95 or
newer operating systems. This program allows you to bring a group of interfaces
up or down or to enable or disable them from a batch file.
With IICTL, you can regulate the hours that users can access the Internet by
disabling all relevant interfaces for a specific period of time. IICTL provides a
means for automating this process using the Windows scheduler or a third-party
scheduler product.
“IICTL /?”shows the following help screen.
