Persons who fail to meet any of these requirements are
not qualified to use the equipment or handle blades.
Wear protective gloves when working with the
equipment or handling blades. Risk of cutting
injuries when handling blades. Blades and
engine can be hot immediately after sawing.
Wear approved hearing protection when
operating the equipment. Hearing can
be permanently impaired after only short
exposure to high-frequency sounds.
Wear approved close-fitting safety goggles
when working with the equipment or handling
blades.
Wear approved protective footwear with saw
protection, steel toe-cap and non-slip sole
when working with the equipment or handling
blades.
Wear full-length protective pants when working
with the equipment or handling blades. Never
wear loose-fitting clothing, scarves, jewelery
or similar long items that can get caught when
working with the equipment. Always secure loose hair
before working with the equipment.
Wear respiration protection when working
with the equipment. Long term inhalation of
sawdust and the engine’s exhaust fumes can
represent a health risk.
Always remove the lap siding/shingle jig from
the mill before trailering or moving the sawmill.
Failure to do so can cause an accident or
injury.

Install the Handle – Revolving (4) onto the Crank
Handle (18) using the 1/2” nylon lock nut (2).
Attach these assembled items to the Cam Shaft (16)
through the matching semi-circular slots using two of
the 1/4 x 1” carriage bolts (6) and 1/4” nylon lock nuts
(3).
You will require a platform of three layers of 3/4” (2 cm) plywood, 14” (36 cm) wide x 96” (244 cm) long with
the remainder cut lengthwise to make two pieces 2 1/8” x 96” (6 cm x 244 cm). These will box in the long
edges. This laminated board will form the platform on which you will mount the jigs.
Install the Foot Bracket (Swivel) (21) and Foot Bracket (Fixed) (20) onto the Fixture Base (19). Use 1/4” x
3/4” flanged bolts (9), and 1/4” nylon lock nuts (3).
DO NOT OVER-TIGHTEN THE FOOT BRACKET (SWIVEL) (21) – The Fixture Base (19) must be allowed
to “rock” freely.

Secure the Shingle Cams
(25) to the Cam Shaft (16)
using the 1/4 x 1/4” socket
set screws (8).
Instructions for adjusting
the Shingle Cams will
follow in later steps.
Install the Shingle Cams (25) onto the Cam Shaft (16) before passing through the other side of the Fixture
Base (Item 19). The flat ends of the Shingle Cams should face the closest end of the Fixture Base, with the
threaded holes on the ‘long side’ facing downward.

Mount the assembly created in step #4 to the opposite end
of the Cam Shaft (16) to the Handle Assembly.
Fasten in place using the socket set screws included with
the Collar on the Roller Cam Mount (24).
Attach the Wheel – 2” x 9/16” x 1” x 1/4” Urethane (27) to the Roller Cam Mount (24) using a 1/4 x 1 1/2”
carriage bolt (5), and 1/4” nylon lock nut (3).
With a 1/4” Fibre Washer (4) between the Roller Cam Mount (24) and the Link Arm (23), attach the Link
Arm (23) to the Roller Cam Mount (24) using a 1/4 x 1” flanged bolt (7) and 1/4” nylon lock nut (3).

Align the Clamp Saddle (17) over the two
slots in the centre of the Fixture Base (19) and
secure with two 3/8 x 1” flanged bolts (11).
Apply some grease to the Screw
Crank Clamp (26) and screw it into
the threaded hole of the Clamp
Saddle (17).
Install the Bolt Fixture (15) into the Fixture Base (19) so that the ‘Thin end’ of the Bolt Fixture is over the
Cam Shaft (16) (Refer to illustration for orientation). Insert the Hinge Tube (22) through the Fixture Base (19)
and Bolt Fixture (15). Attach a Collar (13) to each outside end of the Hinge Tube and secure with the set
screws supplied with the shaft collar. At this point centre the Bolt Fixture in the Fixture base and tighten the
set screws (included with collars) to hold in place.

Thread a 3/8” regular hex
nut (10) about 1/2 - 3/4 of
the way up one of the 3/8” x
3” hex bolts (12), insert this
through the slot in the Fixture
Base (19) near the handle
assembly, with the head of
the bolt on the outside of the
Fixture Base (19). Secure
with another 3/8” regular hex
nut (10). Repeat this process
for the slot on the opposite
side of the Fixture Base (see
illustration). These bolts will
be used as handle stops
during operation.
For Shingle-Making: During Shingle operation
the Shingle Cams (25) will raise and lower the Bolt
Fixture (15). Position the operating handle straight
down, with the Urethane Wheel (27) resting on the
Plywood Platform. Adjust the Shingle Cams (25) on
the Cam Shaft (16) so that the cam lobe is facing
forward (outward), toward the front of the Fixture
Base (19). The 3/8 x 3” hex bolt (12) nearest the
Handle will need to be adjusted for the desired
thickness of the shingle. NOTE: The Shingle Cams
should be located on the shaft so that they support
the outer edges of the Bolt Fixture when actuated.
For Lap-Siding: When making Lap Siding, the
Roller Cam assembly will raise and lower the
Fixture Base (19) side to side. Install the Roller
Cam Mount on the end of the Cam Shaft (16), as
indicated in step #4, above. Position the operating
handle straight down. Clamp the Roller Cam Mount
assembly onto the operating handle rod so that the
Wheel (27) rests on the Plywood Base mentioned
in step #1. The 3/8 x 3” hex bolt (12) nearest the
Roller Cam will need to be adjusted for the desired
thickness of the siding.
NOTE: Please follow the above instructions to
assemble other Lap Sider jig units, noting that only
one Crank Handle is supplied per standard set of
two jigs.
Place each completed assembly onto the platform
with the operating handle facing the operator (as
illustrated). Position the Swivel Foot Bracket (21) 1”
(2.5 cm) from the edge of the platform measured
from the operator’s side.
Install the connecting Link Arm(s) (23) as required
either for a single or double unit. Secure the
connecting Link Arm(s) with 1/4” x 1” carriage bolts
(6), 1/4” Fibre Washers (4) and 1/4” nylon lock nuts
(3).
IMPORTANT: During operation, you will require a
certain amount of friction in the connecting Link
Arms (23) to prevent slippage. This friction is what
will hold the Fixtures in the desired position. To
increase friction, tighten items 3 & 6 slightly.
Once all the connecting links have been installed,
allow the jigs to position and space themselves
naturally on the platform. Secure the jigs to the
platform with the #12 x 1 1/2” self-tap screws (1).

Lap-Siding Making
1. For sawmills equipped with log dogs, clamp the
platform onto the sawmill using the log dogs.
TIP: To prevent splitting the plywood platform,
place a small block of wood between the log
dog screw and the platform.
2. To set the desired taper of the lap-siding,
position the 3/8 x 3” hex bolt (12) up or down to
the desired depth. The higher the adjustment
bolt is screwed into the frame, the lower the
frame is permitted to descend to the platform
and the greater the taper angle.
3. Place the cant in the pivot frames against the
stops and clamp it.
4. Produce lap-siding by alternatively rocking the
jig frame — milling a board with the operating
handle in the down position (Roller Cam not
engaged) and in the ‘Forward’ position (Roller
Cam engaged). Adjust the depth of cut on the
sawhead as required to achieve the desired
board thickness.
Shingle Making
1. For sawmills equipped with log dogs, clamp the
platform onto the sawmill using the log dogs.
TIP: To prevent splitting the plywood platform,
place a small block of wood between the log
dog screw and the platform.
2. Place a cedar block in to the pivot frame, flush at the
pivot end and clamp it with the screw clamp.
3. Position the operating handle straight down in the
neutral position. Take a saw pass along the top of the
cedar blocks to “true” the top surfaces.
4. To set the desired taper of the shingles, position the
Handle in the ‘Backward’ Position. Slide the 3/8 x 3”
hex bolt (12) up or down to the desired height and
secure in place by tightening the 3/8” nuts previously
installed on the bolt (10). This acts as a handle “stop”
to provide uniform shingles.
NOTE: Assuming a 16” (41 cm) block length and
maximum taper, 1/4” (6 mm) thickness at the thin
end results roughly in 5/8” (16 mm) at the thick end.
You can alter the thickness and taper of shingles by
changing the following variables:
a. Position of the operating handle stop — The
higher the stop, the greater the taper angle;
b. Length of the block — The longer the block, the
thicker you will cut the thick end; and
c. Depth of cut — The lower you set the sawhead,
the thicker both the thin and thick ends will be.
5. Cut your first shingle with the operating handle in the
backward position (i.e. with the cam engaged).
6. Thereafter, return the operating handle straight down
in the neutral position, lower your sawhead and
make the second cut. Continue alternating cuts for
the remainder of the block.

négligence ou autre, pour tous dommages,
blessures ou pertes de quelque nature que
ce soit durant l’assemblage, l’utilisation ou
la manutention de l’équipement, des pièces
achetées en option, des accessoires ou des
lames, quelle qu’en soit la cause.
La responsabilité de l’inspection finale
des pièces de la LumberMate et de ses
composants, de l’assemblage, de l’entretien
et de l’utilisation sécuritaire de l’équipement
repose entièrement sur la ou les personnes
qui assemblent et utilisent l’équipement et qui
manipulent les lames.
Les personnes de moins de 18 ans ne peuvent pas
utiliser cet équipement ni manipuler les lames.
Seules les personnes satisfaisant toutes les
exigences suivantes sont qualifiées pour opérer cet
équipement et manipuler les lames.
Les opérateurs qualifiés:
a. ont lu attentivement et comprennent la signification
de tous les avertissements, mises en garde,
instructions et procédures figurant dans ce guide,
dans le guide du moteur, dans les instructions
fournies avec tout accessoire acheté en option et
sur les autocollants apposés sur l’équipement,

c. sont en bonne santé physique et ont une bonne
capacité visuelle,
d. n’ont pas consommé d’alcool ou de drogues, et
e. ne prennent pas de médicaments pouvant altérer
le jugement, le temps de réaction, la mobilité,
la vivacité d’esprit ou causer d’autres effets
secondaires quelconques.
Toute personne ne satisfaisant pas ces exigences n’est
pas qualifiée pour utiliser cet équipement ni manipuler
les lames.
Portez des gants de protection quand vous
travaillez avec l’équipement ou manipulez les
lames. Il y a un risque de coupure lors de la
manipulation des lames. Tout de suite après le
sciage, la lame et le moteur peuvent être très chauds.
Portez des protecteurs d’oreilles approuvés
lors de l’utilisation de l’équipement. La
capacité auditive peut être diminuée de
manière permanente après seulement une
courte période d’exposition à des sons haute fréquence.
Portez des lunettes de protection approuvées
et bien ajustées lors de l’utilisation de
l’équipement ou de la manipulation des lames.
Portez des chaussures de protection
approuvées incluant une protection contre
les scies, des embouts d’acier et des
semelles antidérapantes lors de l’utilisation de
l’équipement ou de la manipulation des lames.
Portez des pantalons de protection à jambes
longues lors de la manipulation de l’équipement
ou des lames. Ne portez jamais de vêtement
amples, d’écharpes, de bijoux ou d’articles longs
pouvant se prendre dans le mécanisme de l’équipement
pendant que vous travaillez.Attachez toujours les cheveux
longs avant de travailler avec l’équipement.
Portez un masque de protection des
voies respiratoires lors de l’utilisation de
l’équipement. L’aspiration de la sciure et des
gaz d’échappement du moteur peut être un
risque pour la santé à long terme.
Retirez toujours l’ensemble de production de
parement à recouvrement et de bardeaux du
moulin avant de remorquer ou de déplacer la
scierie. Le non-respect de cette consigne peut
provoquer un accident ou des blessures.

Posez la poignée de rotation (article 14) sur la
manivelle (article 18) avec le contre-écrou en nylon
de 1/2 po (article 2).
Attachez ces articles assemblés sur l’arbre à cames
(article 16) en les insérant à travers les fentes en
demi-cercle correspondantes à l’aide de deux
boulons mécaniques de 1/4 x 1 po (article 6) et les
contre-écrous en nylon de 1/4 po (article 3).
Il sera nécessaire de construire une plateforme avec trois couches de contreplaqué d’une épaisseur de 3/4 po, d’une
largeur de 35,5 cm (14 po) et d’une longueur de 244 cm (96 po). Le reste doit être coupé en longueur pour créer deux
morceaux de 20,5 x 244 cm (2 1/8 x 96 po). Ces pièces seront utilisées pour créer une boîte autour des rebords plus
longs. Cette planche laminée sera la plateforme sur laquelle vous pouvez monter les ensembles.
Posez le support de pied pivotant (article 21) et le support de pied fixe (article 20) sur la base d’accessoire (article 19).
Utilisez les boulons à bride de 1/4 x 3/4 po (article 9) et les contre-écrous en nylon de 1/4 po (article 3).
NE SERREZ PAS TROP LE SUPPORT DE PIED PIVOTANT (article 21) – La base d’accessoire (article 19) doit
pouvoir pivoter librement.
