RECEIVING THE HEAT EXCHNAGER
Inspect the air conditioner. Check for concealed damage that may have occurred during shipment. Look for dents,
scratches, loose assemblies, evidence of oil, etc. Damage evident upon receipt should be noted on the freight bill.
Damage should be brought to the attention of the delivering carrier -- NOT to nVent Equipment Protection -- within
15 days of delivery. Save the carton and packing material and request an inspection. Then le a claim with the
delivering carrier.
Hoffman®cooling cannot accept responsibility for freight damages; however, we will assist you in any way
possible.

PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION
Hoffman cooling air-to air heat exchangers cool and protect sensitive electronic control systems operating in
hostile factory environments.
Two entirely separate air circulation systems are used to transfer heat from inside the enclosure to the outside
atmosphere. The separated air ow systems are referred to as “closed loops”.
In one air circulation system (loop), heat from the air inside the cabinet is absorbed by the bottom half of the
heat pipe core. This enclosure air is continuously cooled and recirculated, assuring that only clean air comes in
contact with the electronic components. Outside (ambient) air, which might be dirty, is locked out of the sealed
cabinet.
The second circulation system utilizes ambient air to draw off heat from the top of the core.
Referring to the illustration, the heat pipe core contains a liquid refrigerant. A fan at the base of the exchanger
pulls heated cabinet air (black arrow) over the bottom half of the core. The refrigerant inside the core absorbs
heat from the cabinet air and the cooled air is blown back into the enclosure.
As the refrigerant liquid absorbs heat, it boils and turns into vapor, which rises within the core. Ambient air (light
arrows) is pulled into the outside atmosphere. This cools the vapor in the core, and it condenses back into liquid
form. The cooled liquid returns to the bottom half of the core, ready to begin the cooling cycle again.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
When mounting the heat exchanger to the electronic cabinet or enclosure the following procedures should be
followed:
When mounting to the enclosure, an opening must be provided as shown in Figure 1.
To protect the integrity of the closed loop design (see Principles of Operation), a die cut adhesive-backed
gasket tape is provided for sealing the heat exchanger to the enclosure-mounting opening. The gasket is
shipped already adhered to the heat exchanger.
WARNING! To avoid possible personal injury or property damage when the heat exchanger is to be
mounted on the enclosure door, be sure that the hinges will support the added weight of the heat
exchanger. Also, be certain that the heat exchanger does not over-balance the electronic cabinet when the
door is open, causing the cabinet to tip over.

WARRANTY
Please note: Warranty effective at time of shipment. nVent Technical Products warrants that all material
and workmanship are free of defects in quality which impair the usefulness of the thermoelectric cooler
or heat exchanger for a period of ve (5) years for nonoperating parts, except for the lter; and for one (1)
year for everything else when installed and operated under the following conditions:
A. Maximum voltage variation no greater than plus or minus 10% of nameplate nominal rating.
B. Maximum frequency variation no greater than plus or minus 3 Hz. of nameplate nominal rating.
C. Must not exceed minimum and maximum stated temperatures on the nameplate.
D. Not to exceed (BTU/Hr.) rating, including any heat sink, as indicated on the nameplate.
E. The unit must not be restarted for a period of one (1) minute after intentional or accidental shut-off.
(This does not apply to heat exchanger or lter fan.)
nVent Technical Products warrants that all material and workmanship are free of defects in quality which
impair the usefulness of the lter fan package and all custom thermoelectric coolers and heat exchangers
for a period of one (1) year, except for the lter, when installed and operated under conditions A, B, C and
D as listed above.
Not covered in this warranty is damage to the thermoelectric cooler or heat exchanger due to the
introduction of other than the nameplate-designated refrigerant. Operation of any nVent Technical
Products product that has not been designed with proper protective coatings and/or options and is in an
abnormal or corrosive environment voids the warranty. Prolonged operation with dirty lters also voids the
warranty.
Should any part prove defective within the above warranty period, the customer may choose to return
the defective product that is under warranty to nVent Technical Products for repair at no charge or
the customer has the option to repair the defective products at his own expense and nVent Technical
Products will supply repair parts at no charge providing the defective part is returned and found to have
failed under warranty. Parts supplied as warranty replacement parts will assume the balance of the
warranty on the part returned for warranty consideration.
Please be advised: According to the Federal Register, no person maintaining, servicing, repairing, or
disposing of appliances may knowingly vent or otherwise release into the environment any class I or class
II substance used as refrigerant.
nVent Technical Products assumes no liability beyond the repair or replacement of its own product.
Customer modication of any nVent Technical Products product voids this warranty.
The purchaser assumes the responsibility of grounding the unit and installing it in accordance with local
electrical and safety codes, as well as the National Electric Code (NEC) and OSHA.
