UNPACKING

After unpacking unit, inspect carefully for any damage

that may have occurred during transit. Check for loose,

missing, or damaged parts. If any damage is observed,

a shipping damage claim must be ﬁled with carrier. Do

not use the OEMTOOLS 3 Piece HVLP Spray Gun Kit

if broken, bent, cracked or damaged parts (including

labels) are noted. Any 3 Piece HVLP Spray Gun Kit that

appears damaged in any way, operates abnormally

or is missing parts should be removed from service

immediately. If you suspect that the 3 Piece HVLP Spray

Gun Kit was subjected to shock load (a load that was

dropped suddenly, unexpectedly, etc.) immediately

discontinue use until it has been checked by a factory

authorized service center.

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS

AND SAFETY RULES

1. Know your tool. Read this manual carefully. Learn the tool’s

applications and limitations, as well as, potential hazards speciﬁc

to it.

2. Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark work areas

invite accidents.

3. Keep children away. All children should be kept away from the work

area. Never let a child handle a tool without strict adult supervision.

4. Do not operate this tool if under the inﬂuence of alcohol or drugs.

Read warning labels on prescriptions to determine if your judgment

or reﬂexes are impaired while taking drugs. If there is any doubt, do

not attempt to operate.

5. Use safety equipment. Eye protection should be worn at all times

when operating this tool. Use ANSI approved safety glasses.

Everyday eyeglasses are NOT safety glasses. Dust mask, non-skid

safety shoes, hard hat or hearing protection should be used in

appropriate conditions.

6. Wear proper apparel. Loose clothing, gloves, neck-ties, rings,

bracelets or other jewelry may present a potential hazard when

operating this tool. Keep all apparel clear of the tool.

7. Don’t overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times when

operating this tool.

8. Check for damage. Check your tool regularly. If part of the tool is

damaged it should be carefully inspected to make sure that it can

perform its intended function correctly. If in doubt, the part should

be repaired. Refer all servicing to a qualiﬁed technician. Consult

your dealer for advice.

9. Keep away from ﬂammables. Do not attempt to operate this tool

near ﬂammable materials or combustibles. Failure to comply may

cause serious injury or death.

10. Store idle tools out of the reach of children and untrained persons.

Tools may be dangerous in the hands of untrained users.

11. Maintain tools with care.

12. Keep tools dry and clean.

13. Do not use a damaged tool. Tag damaged tools “Do not use” until

repaired.

14. Use only accessories that are recommended by the manufacturer

for your model. Accessories that may be suitable for one tool may

become hazardous when used on another tool.

15. Tool service must be performed only by qualiﬁed repair personnel.

Service or maintenance performed by unqualiﬁed personnel could

result in a risk of injury.

16. When servicing a tool, use only identical replacement parts. Use of

unauthorized parts or failure to follow maintenance instructions may

create a risk of injury.

17. Maintain a safe working environment. Keep the work area well lit.

Make sure there is adequate surrounding workspace. Keep the work

area free of obstructions, grease, oil, trash, and other debris. Do not

use this product in a damp or wet location.

18. Maintain labels and nameplates on this product. These carry

important information. If unreadable or missing, contact customer

service for a replacement.

19. Before use, read and understand all warnings, safety precautions,

and instructions as outlined in the vehicle manufacturer’s service

manual. It is beyond the scope of this manual to properly describe

the correct procedure and test data for each vehicle.

20. Always perform vehicle service in a properly ventilated area. Never

run an engine without proper ventilation for its exhaust. Stop work

and take necessary steps to improve ventilation in the work area

if you develop momentary eye, nose, or throat irritation as this

indicates inadequate ventilation.

Important Safety Instructions

WARNING

1. Use only attachments recommended or sold by manufacturer.

2. DO NOT disassemble the HVLP Spray Gun. Take it to a qualiﬁed

professional when service or repair is required.

3. Keep air hose away from heat, oil and sharp edges. Check air hose

for wear before each use and ensure that all connections are

secure.

4. Only use accessories which are speciﬁcally designed for use with a

HVLP Spray Gun.

5. Wear approved safety eye/face shield, ear defenders and hand

protection.

6. When not in use disconnect from air supply and store in a safe dry,

childproof location.

7. DO NOT use this HVLP Spray Gun for tasks it is not designed

to perform.

8. DO NOT carry the HVLP Spray Gun by the air hose, or yank the hose

from the air supply.

9. DO NOT operate the HVLP Spray Gun if you are tired or under the

inﬂuence of alcohol, drugs or intoxicating medication.

10. DO NOT direct air from the air hose at yourself or others.

DISPOSAL

At the end of the useful life of the OEMTOOLS HVLP Spray Gun, dispose of

the components according to all state, federal and local regulations.

PURPOSE

The OEM 3 Piece HVLP Spray Gun Kit features high volume, low pressure

sprayers that reduce overspray and provide smooth, natural looking

results.

WARNING

Ensure the air supply is clean and does not exceed 50 PSI while operating

the HVLP Spray Gun. Excessive wear will result if air pressure is too high

and/or you use unclean air. This can shorten the product life and may be

dangerous causing damage and/or personal injury.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

WARNING

Ensure you read, understand and apply safety instructions before use.

1. Always inspect, maintain and operate in accordance with ANSI

safety code for portable air tools (ANSI B186.1) and other local

safety codes and regulations.

2. DO NOT operate this tool over 50 PSI air pressure.

3. Always disconnect this tool from the air supply before installing,

adjusting or removing any accessory from this tool or before

performing maintenance.

4. Always assume the air tool is loaded.

5. DO NOT carry any air tool by the hose. Keep air hose away from

heat and sharp objects.

6. Continuous use of vibrating air tools by susceptible users may cause

damage to hands.

7. Always lubricate and maintain the tool in safe operating condition.

8. Only use accessories which are speciﬁcally designed for use with a

HVLP Spray Gun.

9. Connect the HVLP Spray Gun to the air hose.

10. Air hose ﬁttings may get hot. Allow ﬁttings to cool before

disconnecting, or wear gloves to prevent burns.

11. DO NOT use an automatic oiler system or add oil to airline. The

oil will contaminate the material being propelled, ruining the

ﬁnal result.

12. This HVLP Spray Gun is meant for spraying oil-based paints. It

is not recommended for regular wall paint or thin coatings of any

type. While these products can be used with the HVLP Spray Gun,

coverage will not be even.

13. DO NOT use latex paints with this HVLP Spray Gun.

14. Before spraying, cover nearby objects not being sprayed and lay

cloths (not included) on the ﬂoors.

AIR SUPPLY

Ensure the HVLP Spray Gun air valve (or trigger) is in the “off” position

before connecting to the air supply. Always use clean dry air as excessive

moisture will lower the available torque and rust the interior moving parts.

Make sure all hoses and ﬁttings are of the recommended size and be

sure the units are not used with less than or more than the recommended

pressure of the tool (29-50 PSI).

SPRAY GUN SETUP

CAUTION

Keep hands away from trigger while making adjustments.

1. The HVLP Spray Gun may be shipped with a protective plug covering

the air inlet. Remove this plug before set up.

2. Before ﬁrst use, clean the HVLP Spray Gun with a solvent-based

thinner to remove the protective coating used to prevent corrosion. If

it is not removed, it will contaminate the paint.

3. Thread the Cup to the top of the Gun Body and tighten until the Cup

is securely in place.

4. This HVLP Spray Gun is meant for spraying oil-based paints. It is

not recommended for regular wall paint or thin coatings of any

type. While these products can be used with this HVLP Spray Gun,

coverage will not be even.

5. It is important that you mix the paints properly. Follow the

manufacturer’s instructions. Most paints will spray easily if they are

thinned correctly.

6. Carefully strain the paint through a paint strainer or a piece of

cheesecloth.

7. Fill the Cup to 3/4 full and close the Cup.

8. Start the air compressor and set the regulator to the needed

pressure. Do NOT exceed maximum pressure (50 PSI).

9. Test the consistency by spraying a piece of scrap material.

NOTE: If it still appears too thick, add a very small amount of thinner

(not included) and mix thoroughly. Use the proper thinner for the type of

paint. Thin CAUTIOUSLY. Proceed slowly, adding minimal amounts at a

time. Do NOT exceed the manufacturer’s thinning recommendations.

FAN DIRECTION

1. To change the direction of the fan from horizontal to vertical, loosen

the Lock Ring and turn the Nozzle 90°.

2. After the adjustment, tighten the Lock Ring by hand.

PATTERN ADJUSTMENT

1. Adjust the air supply pressure during operation with the Trigger fully

depressed and the Air Knob fully open. If reducing air pressure for

speciﬁc areas, use the Air Knob.

2. Use the Pattern Knob to adjust the spray pattern. Turn Pattern Knob

counterclockwise (all the way open) to ﬂatten the spray pattern.

Turn it clockwise for a round spray pattern - see Figure E: Pattern

Adjustment.

FLUID ADJUSTMENT

1. Turn the Fluid Knob clockwise until it is fully closed.

2. After setting up a piece of test material, squeeze the Trigger in short

bursts while turning the Fluid Knob counterclockwise to set the

amount of ﬂuid - see Figure F: Fluid Adjustment.

If spray is too ﬁne: Reduce the air pressure or allow more paint to come

out by opening the Fluid Knob.

If spray is too thick (globs of paint):Close the Fluid Knob slowly,

checking the pattern after each adjustment.

SPRAYING TECHNIQUE

IMPORTANT: Proper spraying technique is ESSENTIAL to achieve good

results.

1. First, prepare the HVLP Spray Gun according to the instructions

under HVLP Spray Gun Setup on page 3.

2. Keep the HVLP Spray Gun upright and at a right angle to the

workpiece- See Figures G and H.

3. Using two hands, one to steady the Cup and the other to operate the

HVLP Spray Gun, aim the Nozzle at the workpiece.

CAUTION

DO NOT STOP WHEN SPRAYING. Spraying materials will start to set

and dry as soon as they come in contact with the air. They will cause a

permanent clog if not cleared immediately. If discontinuing spraying for

more than half an hour, turn off the air supply, disconnect Cup from Gun

Body and thoroughly rinse Cup and Gun Body with fresh, clean water.

4. Pull Trigger slowly and move the HVLP Spray Gun in parallel strokes

to the workpiece. Keep the distance from the workpiece at about

6” to 9”, depending on the ﬂow adjustment and the paint.

5. To avoid paint build up, start moving the HVLP Spray Gun before

squeezing the Trigger. When ﬁnished with the stroke, release the

Trigger while still moving the HVLP Spray Gun. Doing this will

produce a smoother ﬁnish. If the HVLP Spray Gun stops even brieﬂy

while spraying the paint will build up and run down the workpiece.

NOTE: The stroke speed, the Fluid Knob adjustment, and the distance

from the workpiece, will determine how much paint is being applied.

Apply two thin coats rather than one thick coat.

MAINTENANCE

WARNING

Disconnect the HVLP Spray Gun from air supply before changing

accessories, servicing or performing maintenance.

1. Replace or repair damaged parts. Use genuine parts only.

Unauthorized parts may be dangerous and will invalidate the

warranty.

2. Blow out air line to clear it of accumulated dirt and moisture.

3. Clean the HVLP Spray Gun immediately after EVERY use.

4. DO NOT use worn or damaged accessories.

5. To prevent accidents, release trigger, detach air supply, safely

discharge any residual air pressure, and release trigger again after

use.

INSPECTION

NOTE: These procedures are in addition to the regular checks

and maintenance explained as part of the regular operation of the

air-operated tool. BEFORE EACH USE, inspect the general condition of

the tool. Check for:

• Loose screws

• Misalignment or binding of moving parts

• Clogged nozzle

• Damaged air supply nose

• Cracked or broken parts

• Damaged electrical wiring

• Any other condition that may affect its safe operation

CLEANING / SOLVENT SELECTION

CAUTION

Do NOT use chlorinated solvents (e.g. 1-1-1 trichloroethylene and

dichloromethane, also known as methylene chloride) to clean spray guns.

Many spray guns contain aluminum, which reacts strongly to chlorinated

solvents. Contact the solvent or coating manufacturer as needed

regarding potential chemical reactions.

1. Follow the paint manufacturer’s recommendations for cleaning,

solvent type and disposing of used solvent.

2. Flush the HVLP Spray Gun a full hose length from the air

compressor.

3. If collecting ﬂushed solvents in a metal container, transfer to a

nonmetal container and ﬂush the metal container.

4. Do NOT immerse the HVLP Spray Gun.

IMPORTANT: Do not use mineral spirits on latex paints or the

mixture will congeal, making it very difﬁcult to remove.

• Oil Based Paints: Use mineral spirits.

WARNING

TO PREVENT FIRE, IF A FLAMMABLE SOLVENT

NEEDS TO BE USED, ADHERE TO THE FOLLOWING:

1. Work far away from any ignition sources in a vapor free area.

2. Keep a class ABC ﬁre extinguisher nearby.

AFTER EACH USE:

1. Empty the Cup and ﬁll the Cup with the solvent to clean it.

2. While shaking the HVLP Spray Gun, spray the solvent through the

gun into a container.

3. Once the Cup is empty, repeat the process until the solvent comes

out clean.

4. Disconnect from the air source.

5. After disconnecting, point the HVLP Spray Gun into the spent

solvent container and squeeze the Trigger again to make sure no air

remains.

6. Remove the Nozzle and soak it in the solvent until it is clean.

7. Use an old toothbrush or toothpicks to remove any leftover paint.

8. Inspect the Fluid Needle and make sure it is not bent. If it is bent,

have it replaced by a qualiﬁed technician.

9. Use appropriate solvent (See Solvent Selection) to wipe down the

HVLP Spray Gun body.

10. Lubricate the HVLP Spray Gun after cleaning.

11. A non-silicon or a light lubricant may be used on threaded

connections before storing.

NOTE: To prevent damage to the passages, do NOT use metal objects

to clean the Nozzle.

SOLUTION DISPOSAL

After cleaning, dispose of the cleaning solution according to the solution

manufacturer’s directions and local hazardous waste standards.

If for up to one year from the date of purchase of this OEMTOOLS product you ﬁnd any defect in material or workmanship, through normal usage, return it

to the place of purchase, or to OEMTOOLS for repair or replacement at our discretion. In order to obtain this service send your tool and proof of

purchase, transportation pre-paid. We will not be responsible for lost or damaged goods during transportation, please insure your package. If our

inspection verifies the defect, we will either repair or replace the product at our election, or we may elect to refund the purchase price if we cannot

readily and quickly provide you with a replacement. We will return repaired products at our expense, but if we determine there is no defect, or that

the defect resulted from causes not within the scope of our warranty, then you must bear the cost of returning the product.

OEMTOOLS does not provide warranty for products labeled other than OEM or OEMTOOLS. OEMTOOLS will not provide any warranty for products

subjected to abnormal use. Abnormal use includes, but is not limited to, abuse, accident, alteration, neglect, and unauthorized or unreasonable use or

repairs. This warranty does not cover bits, blades, ﬁles, batteries, or calibration. We recommend that you maintain your tools and sharpen or replace

blades, bits, ﬁles, and batteries as necessary. OEMTOOLS reserves the right to make any changes in construction or design at any time without any

obligation in incorporating such changes to tools or equipment previously sold.

OEMTOOLS makes every effort to assure that its products meet high quality and durability standards, and warrants to the original purchaser that this

product is free from defects in materials and workmanship for the period of one year from the date of purchase. This warranty does not apply to damage
