the batteries simply unscrew the handle end-cap in an anti-clockwise direction and
replace the batteries with the positive polarity towards the top of the handle. Replace the
end-cap by screwing in a clockwise direction. We recommend use of good quality Alkaline
batteries to provide the best performance from your instrument.
Operating your OPTICLAR Otoscope
The otoscope is designed for examination of the outer, inner and middle ear and
enables the medical professional to recognise diseases and conditions within the ear
and monitor treatments effectively. It can also be used for nasal and throat examination,
removal of foreign bodies in the ear and nose and pneumatic resistance testing of
the ear drum.
Before you begin, please select a disposable speculum from the set (2.5mm paediatric
or 4mm adult) and fit to the cone-shaped distal end of the otoscope by twisting in a
clockwise direction.
Fit the Otoscope head to the pocket handle by aligning the screw threads and turning
clockwise until it is fully secure on the handle.
Disposal and re-ordering of Speculae
The speculae are designed for single patient use and must be disposed of in clinical waste
after each patient.Your set includes 4 x 2.5mm and 4 x 4mm speculae and extras can be
ordered from your medical supplier using the following codes:

Turning On and Off
Turn on the Otoscope using the on/off switch situated on the handle pocket clip. The
LED will come on and the light will be visible from the distal end of the otoscope cone,
directly where it is required during examination. Perform the examination and switch off
immediately after use to conserve battery power.
Performing Dynamic Otoscopy
The OPTICLAR P2 Mini Pro Otoscope includes a port for pneumatic / insufflation testing
of the ear drum. By purchasing the optional insufflation adaptor and bulb, a small amount
of air can be puffed in to the ear canal to test for resistance in the ear drum from build up
of mucus in the inner ear. This is a rudimentary visual test and should only be carried out
by a Doctor or other qualified medical professional. Please order the insufflation adaptor
and bulb from your local medical supplier using the following codes:
100.000.019 Insufflation bellows
100.000.020 Insufflation port adaptor
Swivel Lens and Working with External Instruments
It is possible to use a fine aural forceps through the otoscope head, to remove foreign
bodies from the ear. The 3x magnification viewing lens can be swivelled left or right
to allow access through the otoscope head. Only fine instruments should be used and
great care should be taken to not obscure the view excessively (for patient safety)
and to not damage the fibre optic bundle at the distal end.
Care and Maintenance
The OPTICLAR P2 Mini Pro Otoscope requires no routine maintenance. All external
surfaces, the lenses, can be cleaned using a damp cloth or suitable surface
disinfectant, for example:
• Alcohol/Isopropylbasedwipes
• Saniclothdisinfectantwipes
• Actichlor,ataratioof1000ppm(0.1%)or10,000ppm(1%)followingblood
contamination etc.
The instrument must not be immersed in disinfectant solutions.Viewing windows
and lenses must be cleaned with a damp cloth and mild detergent only and dried
immediately using a lint-free cloth or Q-tip in a circular motion.

replace the batteries with the positive polarity towards the top of the handle. Replace the
end-cap by screwing in a clockwise direction. We recommend use of good quality Alkaline
batteries to provide the best performance from your instrument.
Operating your OPTICLAR P2 Mini Pro Ophthalmoscope
The ophthalmoscope is designed for direct examination of the eye. It enables the medical
professional to recognise diseases and conditions apparent through changes to the eye and
monitor treatments effectively. A practiced user can obtain a clear, focused image of the
rear section of the retina, including the optic disk and macula regions and using the functions
of the ophthalmoscope, adjust colour, light and focus to gain the most suitable image
possible. The ophthalmoscope can also be used for examination of the anterior segment of
the eye, usually for the detection of corneal damage and abrasion.
Before you begin, make sure the patient is seated and comfortable. Prepare the ophthalmoscope
by checking you have power, select a normal aperture (medium spot) and neutral (0) lens. The
examination should be performed with the practitioners left eye to the patients left eye and
right eye to right eye.Ask the patient to look at a fixed point over your shoulder. Look through
the ophthalmoscope and bring the light in front of the patients eye from a distance of about
30cm, until you see the red-reflex in the patients pupil. Move closer to the patient, until you
are looking through the pupil from a distance of a 1-2cm from the patients eye, almost cheek
to cheek. You should now have a view of the posterior section of the patients retina, including
the macula and disc. You can adjust the focus to improve the image and add aperture
filters as required. Complete the examination and repeat in the opposite eye as necessary.
A few points to remember:
1. The larger the pupil the better the image, so dim the lights in the room before you
begin to relax the patient and increase their pupil size.
2. Use the lens wheel to sharpen the image focus.
3. If you are dilating the pupil with drops, then make sure the patient does not drive for 2
hours following the examination.
Features of the Ophthalmoscope
The OPTICLAR P2 Mini Pro ophthalmoscope is packed with features to assist you in
performing your examination:
Lensselection:
-20d, -15d, -10d, -8d, -6d to -1d 0 +1d to +6d, +8d, +10d, +15d, +20d
Aperture Selection:
Medium Spot – general examination, light sensitive patients.
Large Spot – general examination through a large or dilated pupil.
Slit – for determining surface changes on the retina and cupping of the optic disk.
Fixation Graticule – for central fixation of the macula and referencing of retinal changes.
Green Filter – removes red-spectrum light for better contrast of the image. The foveal
reflex is seen better with a red-free light.
Turning On and Off
Turn on the Ophthalmoscope using the on/off switch situated on the handles pocket clip.
Perform the examination and switch off immediately after use to conserve battery power.
