Telephotography and digiscoping is easy to enjoy using Opticron fieldscopes in combination with a range of
imaging devices. If you are thinking about taking photos and video through your fieldscope we currently offer the
following options:
1. Telephotography with an SLR, DSLR or compact system camera
In this system the camera lens is substituted for the telescope +
telephotoadapter or telescope + eyepiece + photoadapter. To convert
MM3 50 models to a 530mm1/f.10.6 telephoto lens you will need
a 40215 telephotoadapter. Alternatively connect a suitable push fit
photoadapter to your viewing eyepiece.2
A T-mount is required to connect the assembly to the camera body.
1This is an approximate figure based on 35mm SLR cameras. DSLR/compact
system cameras use different sized image sensors compared to 35mm so an
equivalent telephoto conversion figure must be calculated separately.
2For information on telephotoadapters/photoadapters visit our Telephotography
and Digiscoping pages at www.opticronusa.com
2. Phonescoping with a suitable smartphone and the USM-2
The USM-2 offers a simple, flexible way of connecting your smartphone to your telescope
eyepiece and recording video or taking photos. The mount features a plate with adjustable
clamps to position and hold the smartphone on one side. On the other is an adjustable
3 pin clamp that fixes over the eyepiece.
