Thank you very much for purchasing this AJ-BS900P Base Station (referred to throughout these instructions as “the unit”).
The unit is connected to a DVCPRO or DVCPRO50 camera recorder to configure a transmission system which uses a tri-axia cab e
to enab e the camera recorder to be operated as a system camera.
Use of non-compressed wide-band 360 Mbps seria component signa s makes high picture qua ity transmission possib e so that the
high picture qua ity of the images shot by the DVCPRO camera recorder are transmitted with their high picture qua ity kept intact.
This serves to expand the range of the DVCPRO camera recorder’s operating formats.
Notes
≥≥When the unit is connected, external input signals cannot be recorded on tape inside the camera
recorder.
“CAM” must be selected as the REC SIGNAL setting on the REC/ B/RET menu of the camera
recorder.
≥For details on mounting the spacer provided with the AJ-CA900 camera adapter used in
combination with the unit, consult your dealer.
Depending on the version of the software being used with the camera recorder, it may be necessary
to update it, in which case you should consult your dealer.

Features
*1 The power supp y is subject to imitations. Consu t your dea er when configuring the system.
*2 During VTR p ayback operations (PLAY, FF or REW), the BS output pictures and sound wi be switched to the p ayback mode. Under the current version,
however, the images of the camera wi be viewed since the p ayback board has not been insta ed. As far as the audio signa s are concerned, the signa s
on the tape wi be output from BS during VTR p ayback operations (PLAY, FF or REW): this means that care shou d be taken when the camera recorder’s
microphone is used.
Bear in mind the fo owing checkpoints when connecting the camera recorder to the unit’s system.
1Remember that if the power is turned on or off whi e the camera’s menu is open, the menu wi appear on the viewfinder.
2When the unit is connected, the RET SW operations wi be cance ed on the camera’s REC/PB/RET menu.
3When connecting the unit to a camera recorder, do not supp y the signa s to the GENLOCK connector on the camera.
4The triax and ECU (extension contro unit) cannot be used at the same time for the camera recorder.
5When the triax is connected, some of the settings (such as GAIN, CAM-BAR SW, WHITE BAL and SHUTTER) se ected by
the switches on the camera recorder wi not take effect.
6When the triax is connected, the composite video signa s (CAM OUT, VIDEO OUT) of the camera recorder wi be non-
standard signa s.

5ower fuse (FUSE)
This is the main power supp y fuse of the AJ-BS900P. Use a dedicated DC fuse (400V 1A) which can withstand inrush.
6Camera AC power fuse (FUSE)
This is the fuse of the power supp y to the camera head. Use a dedicated DC fuse (400V 1A) which can withstand inrush.
7CABLE indicators
These indicators show the status of the camera cab e.
OPEN: Indicates that the camera cab e is open. (In cases where, for instance, a connector has become disconnected or a wire
has broken.) The power supp y to the camera is off when this indicator is it.
SHORT: Indicates that the camera cab e is shorted. The power supp y to the camera is off when this indicator is it. If the
SHORT indicator ights, the cab e needs to be inspected.
8ALARM indicator
This indicator b inks when a prob em has occurred. If a monitor has been connected to PIX OUT, etters representing the a arm
concerned wi be disp ayed on the monitor simu taneous y. For further detais, refer to the tab e be ow.
1MAIN switch
This is the on/off switch for the main power supp y.
This switch operates on y when the unit is operated on AC
power. It does not work when it is operated on DC power.
<Note>
When DC power is supp ied, whether the switch is ON or
OFF depends on whether the main power switch on the DC
power supp y is ON or OFF.
2HEAD OWER switch
This is the on/off switch for the power supp y to the camera
head.
<Note>
This switch a so supp ies power to the AJ-RP900P
repeater.
3MAIN power indicator
Lights when the main power supp y is turned on.
4Head power indicator
Lights when the power supp y to the camera head (AJ-CA900P) is turned on.

This button is used to switch the intercom microphone on and off. It has three positions: ON, OFF, and PTT. (PTT: Audio
transmission continues as ong as the button is he d down.)

9Intercom XLR connector
This is used to connect a headset to the intercom.
:GM level knob
This knob is used to adjust the vo ume of the PGM audio
mixed into the signa fed to the intercom headset.
?hase adjustment buttons
These buttons are used to adjust the phase se ected using the phase adjustment switch >.
;SYSTEM/ RIVATE selector switch
This is used to togg e the intercom between the system and
private modes.
SYSTEM: The intercom is connected to the system via the
communication connector on the rear pane of
the unit.
PRIVATE:The intercom is not connected to the system via
the communication connector on the rear pane
of the unit.
>hase adjustment switch
The avai ab e settings are SC PHASE, OFF, and H PHASE.
SC PHASE: Seects SC phase adjustment.
OFF: No phase adjustment is performed.
H PHASE: Se ects H phase adjustment.
@GEN LOCK indicator
This indicator ights when the camera’s synchronization is ocked using the signa input via the GEN LOCK connectors on the
rear pane .
<Note>
This indicator b inks if there is something wrong with the GEN LOCK signa . When this happens check the GENLOCK signa s.

MAWB button
This is the auto white ba ance button. It does not work
when the LWHITE BAL switch is set to the PRST
position.

NABB button
This is the auto b ack ba ance button.
Button LED it: Auto b ack ba ance in progress.

OBAR switch
This switch is used to output a bar signa from the AJ-
BS900P. The camera head does not switch to bar mode.
HVTR WARNING indicator
This indicator ights when a VTR operation error occurs.
ICALL button
This button is used to ca the camera. This button’s LED
ights when a ca is made from the camera.
KR TALLY indicator
This indicator ights when an R ta y signa is being input via
the TALLY IN connector.
JG TALLY indicator
This indicator ights when a G ta y signa is being input via
the TALLY IN connector.

WHITE BAL (white balance selector) switch
PRST: This position shou d be se ected when there is no
time to adjust the white ba ance. It uses the 3200
K white ba ance va ue stored in memory.
A or B: The white ba ance memory is set to A or B.

BREW button
This is the rewind button for the VTR.
CFF button
This is the fast forward button for the VTR.
DSTO button
This is the stop button for the VTR.
ELAY button
This is the p ay button for the VTR.
FREC CHK button
This button is used to disp ay the recording status of the
VTR.
START/STO button
This button is used to turn the VTR’s recording operation
on and off.
AVTR ENABLE button
This button is used to operate the VTR from the base
station.
ON: Activates VTR operation using the contro s on the
front pane (buttons Bto ). The time code is
disp ayed at PIX OUT.
OFF: Deactivates VTR operation using the contro s on the
front pane . The time code is not disp ayed at PIX
OUT.
<Note>
The VTR’s p ayback video signa is not output from the
base station.

Front pane
aMONI SEL switch
This switch is used to switch the signa s output from the
PIX and WFM jacks on the rear pane of the AJ-BS900P.
_KNEE OINT knob
This knob is used to set the manua knee point.
`DETAIL knob
This knob a ows adjustment of the master DETAIL setting.
^GAMMA knob
This knob is used to change the camera’s master gamma
setting.
bSET U button
This button is used to make camera settings.
When it is ighted, menus are disp ayed at PIX OUT.
cSET U dial
This dia is used to se ect settings on the setting menus.
After se ecting the desired setting by turning the dia , press
to enter it.
Menu settings can be performed when the bSET UP
button is ighted.
When the bSET UP button is not ighted, the SYNCHRO
SCAN speed can be set; when SYNCHRO SCAN is
se ected.
eShutter speed selector switch
This switch is used to se ect the shutter speed. The
avai ab e settings are SYNCRO SCAN Super V and 1/100
to 1/2000.
Moving the switch when the SHUTTER button is in the off
position wi not cause the shutter to operate.
dSHUTTER button
This button activates the operation performed using the
shutter speed se ector switch e. It shou d be put into the
on position when using an e ectronic shutter.

This ights when the ens extenders (x2) are used with the
camera.
]KNEE SLO E knob
This knob is used to set the manua knee s ope.
RAINTING ENABLE button
This button is used to enab e painting (gain knob Sand
b ack knob T) operation.
VAUTO IRIS button
This button is used to togg e auto iris operation on and off.
Lit: Auto iris operation on.
Dark: Auto iris operation off.
WLED digital indicator
This indicator disp ays the F va ue of the ens.
When changes are made to the gain or fi ter settings, the
corresponding va ues are disp ayed for about two seconds.
A so, pressing the CHECK button Z togg es the disp ay in
sequence among the gain, fi ter, and F va ues.
<Note>
“---” appears when the camera recorder’s power is OFF.
UIRIS knob
When the AUTO IRIS button Vis in the on position, the
va ue se ected using this knob is added or subtracted to the
IRIS LEVEL setting in the USER MENU.
When the AUTO IRIS button Vis in the off position, this
knob is used to perform adjustment of the iris setting.
<Note>
Set the ens manua /auto se ector switch to AUTO.
YFILTER indicator
This indicator ights when the fiter position is shown by the
LED digita indicator.
XGAIN indicator
This indicator ights when the gain va ue is shown by the
LED digita indicator.
\M ED knob
This knob is used to adjust the master pedesta setting.
ZCHECK button
Pressing this button mu tipe times causes first the GAIN
indicator and then the FILTER indicator to ight. When the
GAIN indicator is it the LED digita indicator shows the fi ter
position, and when the FILTER indicator is it the LED
digita indicator shows the gain va ue.
SGAIN knobs
These are the R and B gain adjustment knobs.
TBLACK knobs
These are the R and B pedesta adjustment knobs.
PAUTO KNEE button
This button is used to togg e auto knee operation on and
off.
Lit: Auto knee operation on.
Dark: Auto knee operation off.
QGAIN buttons
These buttons are used to switch the camera’s gain setting.

Rear pane
1GEN LOCK connectors
These are the standard externa signa input connectors
used when ocking the camera’s synchronization to an
externa sync signa .
2RET 1 connectors
These are the input connectors for return signa 1, which is
sent to the camera.
6COMMUNICATION connector
This connector is used for making connections to an
intercom system. The supports types of intercom system
are 2W, 4W, and RTS. Use the switch on the BS AUDIO
board to se ect the system. For detai s, refer to “Switches”
(page 17).
7AUDIO CH1 connector
This is the output connection for the camcorder’s MIC CH1
signa .
3RET 2 connectors
These are the input connectors for return signa 2, which is
sent to the camera.
4ROM T connectors
These are the input connectors for the te eprompter signa ,
which is sent to the camera.
5Triax connector
This is the triax connector used for making connections to
the AJ-CA900P.
8AUDIO CH2 connector
This is the output connection for the camcorder’s MIC CH2
signa .
9DC 12V IN (external power supply input) jack
This jack is used to connect an externa battery for use as a
power supp y.
<Note>
Use the AJ-B95 AC adapter (12V, 13A), avai ab e as an
optiona accessory, for the DC power.
<O 3 connector
This connector is for making connections to an extension
contro unit (ECU) or remote contro operation pane
(RCOP). The compatib e ECU mode is the AJ-EC3P.
However, the RCOP cab e is required for connection. For
further detai s, consu t your dea er.
=O 4 connector
This connector is for making connections to the camera
se ect unit (CSU) of a master contro pane (MCP). The AJ-
BS900P is not compatib e with any current y avai ab e
CSUs. P ans ca for a compatib e mode to be deve oped
in future.
>WFM control connector
This is an output connection used for waveform monitoring.
One-waveform, two-waveform, and three-waveform contro
are supported.
:GND terminal
This termina is used to ground the AJ-BS900P.
;ower connector
This connector is used to supp y power to the AJ-BS900P.

Rear pane
?TALLY connector
This is the connector for the R ta y and G ta y signa s. It
can be used for PM ta y.
@DC power fuse (FUSE)
This fuse is for the AJ-BS900P’s DC power supp y. Use a
dedicated DC fuse (400V 15A) which can withstand inrush.
A4 : 2 : 2 connectors
These connectors are for component seria digita output.
They are activated if the AJ-YA901P option board is
insta ed. One component may be connected to each
output BNC connector. The output signa s comp y with the
SMPTE259M-C standard.
BY/G, B/B, and B/R connectors
These output connectors are for component signa s or
RGB signa s. Use the switch on the BS DIGITAL board to
se ect the system. For detai s, refer to “Switches” (pages
18).
CVideo output connectors
These are output connectors for component video signa s.
DIX output connector
This is the output connector for the picture monitor signa .
Signa switching is performed using the PIX SEL switch.
EWFM output connector
This is the output connector for the waveform monitor
signa . Signa switching is performed using the MONI SEL
switch.
FO 1 connector
This connector is not used on the current version of the AJ-
BS900P.
O 2 connector
This connector is not used on the current version of the AJ-
BS900P.

IX output menu indications
PIX output setting menu indications
When the SET UP button is pressed so that it ights, setting menu indications are output via the PIX output connector.
The setting menus consist of main menus and submenus. Setting menus are disp ays one page at a time. A of the
setting menu screens and their structure are shown in the diagram be ow.
The MAIN MENU consists of two screens, 1/2 and 2/2. These screens are used to open the submenus.
To open a submenu, se ect it by turning the SET UP dia and then press the SET UP dia .
To return to the MAIN MENU from a submenu, turn the SET UP dia to a ign the arrow cursor with the desired menu
tit e, then press the SET UP dia .
For detai s on the submenu items, refer to the Instruction Manua of the camera recorder used.

Shading adjustment
When the BLACK or WHITE (V.SAW) setting on the AUTO SHADING menu or the WHITE (DIGITAL) setting on the WHITE
SHADING menu is se ected to perform shading, menus simi ar to those shown be ow appear. The operation procedure is i ustrated
be ow using b ack shading as an examp e.

From MAIN MENU 2/2, se ect the AUTO SHADING submenu.
A ign the arrow cursor with the BLACK item and press the SET UP dia . A
page confirming whether or not you want to perform shading adjustment
appears.
To perform shading adjustment, a ign the arrow cursor with YES and press the
SET UP dia . (After this, the indication “SHADING ACTIVE” appears in the
center of the screen.) If you do not wish to perform shading adjustment, a ign
the arrow cursor with NO and press the SET UP dia . The AUTO SHADING
page reappears.
The AUTO SHADING page reappears automatica y when shading adjustment
comp etes.

1. Remove the four screws from the front pane of the AJ-
BS900P.
2. Pu the front cover forward to disengage it. Remove the
screw shown in the figure on the eft, and remove the meta
fitting. (The screw cannot be removed from the fitting.)

intercom system, MIC output eve , etc.
