Read this first!

Caution for AC Mains Lead
FOR YOUR SAFETY PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING TEXT CAREFULLY.
This product is equipped with 2 types of AC mains cable. One is for continental Europe, etc. and the other
one is only for U.K.
Appropriate mains cable must be used in each local area, since the other type of mains cable is not suitable.

This appliance is supplied with a moulded three pin mains plug for
your safety and convenience.
A 13 amp fuse is fitted in this plug. Should the fuse need to be
replaced please ensure that the replacement fuse has a rating of
13 amps and that it is approved by ASTA or BSI to BS1362.
Check for the ASTA mark or the BSI mark on the body of the
fuse. If the plug contains a removable fuse cover you must ensure
that it is refitted when the fuse is replaced.
If you lose the fuse cover the plug must not be used until a
replacement cover is obtained.
A replacement fuse cover can be purchased from your local
Panasonic Dealer.

Before Use
• Install the Thunderbolt drivers onto your personal computer from our website.
Refer to the installation manual on the website for information on how to install
the drivers.

• The P2 drive (AU-XPD3) may become warm during use, but this is not a
malfunction.
Overview
The AU-XPD3 (referred to as “P2 drive” in these instructions) is a single-slot
drive for reading and writing P2 content on P2 cards (one card at a time) when
connected to a Windows or Mac computer through a Thunderbolt connection.
The P2 drive is capable of making high-speed transfers of clip data shot with a
memory card camera-recorder for P2 cards to a personal computer (Windows/
Macintosh).
This device supports not only the transferring and copying of clips recorded on P2
cards, but also direct editing.

Parts and their Functions
Power LED
This indicator lights up in green when the device is running.
Power switch
Use this switch to turn the P2 drive ON ( ) and OFF ( ).
Access indicator
Lights green during P2 card access.
When the P2 card is removed from the P2 drive, processing by the driver takes
some time, and the indicator lights orange until the P2 drive is again in a state in
which a P2 card can be inserted.
u NOTE:
• Do not remove a P2 card during access. The file data could be corrupted or
the P2 card could be damaged.
P2 Card slot
Insert a P2 card.
The P2 drive is designed for P2 cards and does not work with other cards.
EJECT button
Press this button to remove a P2 card from the P2 drive.
DC IN 16 V Socket
Connect an AC adaptor to this socket.
Thunderbolt 3 port (USB Type-C)
Use the supplied Thunderbolt 3 cable to connect the P2 drive to the Thunderbolt
3 port on a personal computer.
: This mark shows that the port supports Thunderbolt 3.
FAN
This is the vent for the unit’s cooling fan.
The fan operates automatically depending on the operating temperature. Make
sure the vent is not obstructed while operating the unit.
u NOTE:
• If a malfunction occurs with the fan motor, the access indicator will blink slowly
(about 1-second intervals) in red. When a malfunction occurs with the fan
motor, it is not possible to access the P2 card. In addition, if a malfunction
occurs with the fan motor while a P2 card is being accessed, access is
stopped forcefully.

Connecting the P2 Drive to a Personal
Computer

Start the personal computer.

Plug the AC adaptor supplied with the P2
drive into the DC IN 16 V socket on the
device.

Set the power switch to ON.
After startup, the power LED will light up green.

Connect the supplied Thunderbolt 3 cable
to the Thunderbolt 3 port of the P2 drive.
You can connect it to either the left or right
Thunderbolt 3 port.

Connect the other end of the Thunderbolt
3 cable to the Thunderbolt 3 port on the
personal computer.
The access indicator blinks green and then turns
off, and a drive letter for the P2 drive appears on
the personal computer.

For the first time you use the P2 drive, proceed with the
Thunderbolt driver installation.

Verify that the personal computer recognizes the P2 drive.
n Thunderbolt 3 Cable
• Use the supplied 0.5 m (19-11/16 inches) Thunderbolt 3 cable.
• Do not transport the P2 drive with Thunderbolt 3 cables connected. The P2 drive
could be damaged.

n Daisy chain connection
• The P2 drive can be connected to a single personal computer in a daisy
chain of up to 6 devices.
• To connect the P2 drive in a daisy chain with another Thunderbolt
3-compatible device, use the Thunderbolt 3 cable supplied with the other
device.
• After connecting the P2 drive to a personal computer, you can connect
another device in a daisy chain by following these steps:

Connect the Thunderbolt 3 cable to the
free Thunderbolt 3 port on the P2 drive.

Connect the other end of the cable to the
Thunderbolt 3 port on the device to be
daisy-chained.
Removing the P2 Drive from a Personal
Computer
n Windows
If a P2 card is inserted in the P2 drive, click the up arrow icon in the desktop
task tray, select “Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media”, select “Remove P2
drive” before disconnecting the Thunderbolt 3 Cable.
When there is no P2 card in the drive, the Thunderbolt 3 Cable can be removed
without the need for any computer operations.
n macOS
If a P2 card is inserted in the P2 drive, drag the P2 card icon to the Trash, check
that the icon has disappeared and the access indicator on the P2 drive has
turned off before disconnecting the Thunderbolt 3 Cable.
When there is no P2 card in the P2 drive, the Thunderbolt 3 Cable can be
removed without the need for any computer operations.
u NOTE:
• After safely removing hardware in Windows, you can make the computer
recognize the P2 drive again by connecting the Thunderbolt 3 Cable.

Inserting a P2 Card

Insert a P2 card in the P2 card slot.
Press in the card until the EJECT button pops up.
u NOTE:
• Be sure to insert the P2 card horizontally. Forcing
the card in at an angle may damage it.
• Do not remove a P2 card while it is being
accessed or right after insertion. Otherwise, the
card may be damaged.
• Do not transport the drive with a P2 card inserted.
Otherwise, the P2 drive may be damaged.
• When the access indicator is lit orange, the driver
is performing processing, and even if a P2 card is
inserted it will not be recognized.

Fold the EJECT button in the direction of
the arrow.
u NOTE:
• Do not use the P2 drive with the EJECT button
fully extended. Otherwise, the EJECT button
could be damaged.

Removing a P2 Card
1
First confirm that the P2 card is not being
accessed, and then flip up the EJECT
button in the direction of the arrow.
u NOTE:
• To remove a P2 card on a Mac, drag the P2 card
icon to the Trash. Then check that the icon has
disappeared and the access indicator on the P2
drive has turned off before physically removing
the P2 card.
EJECT button
• Do not remove a P2 card that is being accessed. Removing a P2 card
during access may cause the P2 drive to malfunction. Should this happen,
reconnect the Thunderbolt 3 Cable.

Press the EJECT button.
The P2 card will slide out far enough to allow you to
remove it.

Write-protecting a P2 Card
A P2 card has a write-protect switch. Setting
this switch to “PROTECT” can prevent writing
and deleting of data.
Note: The write-protect switch is not effective
when the P2 card is inserted in the P2 drive.
Make sure you remove the P2 card from the
P2 drive, set the switch, then re-insert the card,
in order to effect the switch setting.
To prevent the writing and deleting of data
when using a Memory Card Adapter (AJ-
P2AD1), set the memory card write-protect
switch on the adapter.

Q & A
n Cards other than P2 cards cannot be used.
ÎThe P2 drive is designed for P2 cards and does not support cards other than P2
cards.
n P2 cards cannot be accessed after resume from sleep or hibernation.
ÎSome personal computers may not be able to access a P2 card in the P2 drive
after resuming from sleep or hibernation. Should this happen, reconnect the
Thunderbolt 3 Cable.
n When a P2 card is inserted, the access indicator flashes green
continuously and the P2 card is unusable.
ÎThe P2 card may be unformatted.
Format the P2 card.
n When a P2 card is removed, the access indicator lights orange
continuously and does not turn off.
ÎThe P2 drive may have disconnected from the personal computer.
Unplug the Thunderbolt 3 cable and plug it in again.
n The access indicator blinks slowly (about 1-second intervals) in red and
does not turn off.
ÎThe fan requires replacement. Contact your dealer for more information.
n The fan does not spin.
ÎThe fan only spins when the P2 drive’s internal temperature is high.
