SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
GENERAL GUIDELINES
1. It i advi able to in ert an i olation tran former in the
power line and AC upply before ervicing a hot cha i .
2. When ervicing, ob erve the original lead dre ; e pecially
the lead dre in the high voltage circuit . If a hort
circuit i found, replace all part which have been
overheated or damaged by the hort circuit.
3. After ervicing, ee to it that all the protective device
uch a in ulation barrier , in ulation paper , hield , and
i olation R-C combination , are properly in talled.
4. Before turning the monitor on, mea ure the re i tance
between B+ line and cha i ground. Connect © ide of
an ohmmeter to the B+ line , and © ide to cha i
ground. Each line hould have more re i tance than
pecified, a follow :

5. When the monitor i not to be u ed for a long period of
time, unplug the power cord from the AC outlet.
6. Potential , a high a 24.0 kV are pre ent when thi
monitor i in operation. Operation of the monitor with 
out the rear cover involve the danger of a hock hazard
from the monitor power upply. Servicing hould not be
attempted by anyone who i not thoroughly familiar
with the precaution nece ary when working on high-
voltage equipment. Alway di charge the anode of the
picture tube to the monitor cha i before handling the
tube.
7 After ervicing, make the following leakage current
check to prevent the cu tomer from being expo ed to
hock hazard .

LEAKAGE CURRENT COLD CHECK (See figure 1.)
1, Unplug the AC cord and connect a jumper between the
two prong on the plug.
2. Turn on the monitor' power witch.
3. Mea ure the re i tance value, with an ohmmeter,
between the jumpered AC plug and each expo ed
metallic cabinet part on the monitor, uch a crew 
head , antenna , control haft , handle bracket, etc.
When the expo ed metallic part ha a return path to the
cha i , the reading hould be between 240 kft and
5.2 MH.
When the expo ed metal doe not have a return path to
the cha i , the reading mu t be <» .
LEAKAGE CURRENT HOT CHECK (See Figure 1.)
1. Plug the AC cord directly into the AC outlet. Do not
u e an i olation tran former for thi check.
2. Connect a 1.5 kf2, 10 watt re i tor, in parallel with a
0.15 m F capacitor, between each expo ed metallic part
on the et and a good earth ground uch a a water pipe,
a hown in figure 1.
3. U e an AC voltmeter, with 1000 ohm /volt or more
en itivity, to mea ure the potential acro the re i tor.
4. Check each expo ed metallic part, and mea ure the
voltage at each point.
5. Rever e the AC plug in the AC outlet and repeat each of
the above mea urement .
6. The potential at any point hould not exceed 0.75 volt
RMS. A leakage current te ter (Simp on Model 229 or
equivalent) may be u ed to make the hot check , leakage
current mu t not exceed 1/2 milliamp. In ca e a mea 
urement i out ide of the limit pecified, there i a
po ibility of a hock hazard, and the monitor hould be
repaired and rechecked before it i returned to the
WARNING. 1. The potential ource of X-Radiation in TV
et i the High Voltage ection and the
picture tube.
2. When u ing a picture tube te t jic for
ervice, make ure the jig i capable of
handling 25.0 kV without cau ing X-
Radiation.
NOTE: It i important to u e an accurate, periodically
calibrated high voltage meter.
1. Turn the Bright and the Panabrite control fully counter 
clockwi e.
2. Set the SERVICE witch to SERVICE.
3. Mea ure the High Voltage. The upper meter (electro 
tatic type) reading hould indicate 24 kV ± 1.0 kV.
If the upper meter indication i out of tolerance, im 
mediate ervice and correction i required to prevent
the po ibility of premature component failure.
4. To prevent an X-Radiation po ibility , it i e ential to
u e the pecified picture tube.
5. To prevent expo ure to X-Radiation, the picture tube
hield mu t be kept in place with power applied to the
et.
HORIZONTAL OSC. DISABLE CIRCUIT TEST
SERVICE WARNING: Thi te t mu t be made a a final
check before the et i returned to the cu tomer.
1. With rear cover removed, upply nominal 120 V AC to
the et and turn on the power witch.
2: Adju t the cu tomer control to normal po ition.
3. Short the collector and the emitter of Q801 with a
jumper wire.
Confirm that the picture tube creen black out (hori 
zontal o cillation top ).
4. If thi doe not occur, the Horizontal OSC. Di able
Circuit i not operating.
Follow the Horizontal O cillator Di able Circuit Repair
Procedure before the et i returned to cu tomer.
HORIZONTAL OSC. DISABLE CIRCUIT REPAIR
PROCEDURE
1) Connect a DC voltmeter between the cathode of D504
and cha i ground of the main.circuit board. If nearly
20 V i not pre ent on the cathode, find the cau e.
Check R527. D504 and C519.
2) Connect a DC voltmeter between the cathode of D505
and cha i ground of the main circuit board. If nearly
11.0 V i not pre ent on the cathode, find the cau e.
Check R518, R519 and D506.
3) Repeat tep 2) procedure. If nearly 11.0 V i pre ent on
the cathode, check IC401 , R520, C525 and D505.
4) Carefully check above pecified part , and related
cirucit and part . When the circuit i repaired, try the
horizontal o cillator di able circuit te t again.

DISASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
BACK CABINET REMOVAL
1. Remove 7 (A) crew hown in figure 2.
2. Pull the cabinet toward you.
TOP CABINET REMOVAL
1. Remove OFF-ON Volume knob on the front panel ana
place the et with the picture tube face down.
2. Remove 8 ® crew and then carefully pull the top
panel upward a hown in figure 3.
SPEAKER BLOCK REMOVAL
1. Di connect a coupler © and remove 5 © crew hown
in figure 4.
2. Pull off the peaker block from the cha i bracket.
CHASSIS REMOVAL
1. Di connect C-Board and anode lead from CRT, 6 cou 
pler from A-Board, 1P lug terminal from cha i bracket
and 1P connector from C-Board.
2. Then lowly lide the cha i backward and remove
from the rail .
CRT REMOVAL
1. Remove 4 © crew and remove CRT o"f a hown in
figure 5.

FIELD ALIGNMENT OF VIDEO MONITOR
Note: U e Video pattern Generator for following align 
ment . (Video input hould read 1.0Vp-p)
A. WITHOUT TEST EQUIPMENT
Alignment can be accompli hed by general procedure . The
following de cribe imple alignment method that do not
require exten ive ervice hop te t equipment.
VERTICAL HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT
Adju t Vertical Height control (R402) until the picture or
te t pattern i ymmetrical from top to bottom.
COLOR PURITY ADJUSTMENT
(See figure 6, 7, 8 and 10.)
1. Operate the monitor for 20 minute , with the Bright
control at maximum to warm up the CRT.
2. Degau the monitor fully by u ing an external degau 
ing coil.
3. Roughly adju t the convergence. (See page 8.)
4. Apply black and white pattern.
5. Turn the Red and Blue Cut-Off control fully counter 
clockwi e to obtain a green field. Adju t the R. Drive
control if the green field cannot be obtained.
6. Loo en the deflection yoke clamp crew and move the
deflection yoke a clo e to the purity magnet a
po ible.
7. Loo en the purity magnet clamp (See figure 7) and
adju t the purity magnet to et the vertical green ra ter
preci ely at the center of the creen. (See figure 8.)
Then tighten the clamp.
8. Slowly move the deflection yoke forward and adju t
for the be t overall green creen.
9. Tighten the deflection yoke clamp crew.
10. Produce a blue and red ra ter with the Cut-Off control
and ob erve that good purity i obtained on the re 
pective field.
11. Ob erve that a uniform white ra ter i obtained by
adju ting the R.G.B. Cut-Off control . If the creen
i not uniformly white, repeat the above procedure.
COLOR TEMPERATURE ADJUSTMENT
(See figure 9 and 10.)
1. U e a black and white video pattern.
2. Turn the R, G, and B Cut-Off control fully counter 
clockwi e, and then turn each forward (clockwi e) 90°.
3. Turn the Screen Control (R550) fully counterclockwi e
and et Service Switch to the Service po ition.
4. Turn the Screen Control clockwi e lowly , until any one
of the R, G, or B line ju t become vi ible.
(See figure 9.)

B. WITH TEST EQUIPMENT
When mea uring voltage with a VTVM, be ure to u e the
te t point located at the conductor ide of the circuit
board . U e an i olation tran former for the e.
CONVERGENCE ADJUSTMENT
Note: Before any convergence adju tment are made
vertical neight and focu adju tment mu t be
completed.
1. U e 3 dot pattern to complete thi adju tment.
2. The brightne level hould be no higher than nece ary
to obtain a clear pattern.
3. Loo en the convergence magnet clamp and converge the
red and blue dot at the center of the creen, by rotating
the R-8 Static Convergence Magnet. (See figure 7.)
4. Align the converged red/blue dot with the green dot at
the center of the creen, by rotating the (RB)-G Static
Convergence Magnet. (See figure 7.)
5. Tighten the convergence magnet clamp.
6. Remove the DY wedge ( ee figure 7) and lightly tilt
(do not rotate) the deflection yoke horizontally and
vertically to obtain good overall convergence.
7. Secure the deflection yoke by rein erting the wedge .
(See figure 11.)
8. If purity error i found, repeat the purity adju tment .
NOTE
1. Wedge A hown in figure 11 hould be fixed within a
range of 0° — 30° to the left of the vertical line a hown
2. After in erting wedge A, in ert wedge B and C. The
wedge hould be et 120° apart from each other.
3 Be certain that the three wedge are firmly fixed and the
Deflection Yoke i tightly clamped in place. Otherwi e
the Deflection Yoke may hift it po ition and cau e a
lo of convergence and purity.
POWER LINE VOLTAGE (116V) ADJUSTMENT
1. Connect a voltmeter between TP91 and ground.
2. Adju t R809 to obtain a reading of 116.0 V ± 0.5 V.
HIGH VOLTAGE ADJUSTMENT
1. Adju t color temperature. (See color temperature adju t 
ment.)
2. Slide the Service Switch to the Service po ition.
3. U e an electro tatic type high voltage meter to confirm
that the high voltage i within the range of 24.0 kV ±
1.0 kV.
4. If the high voltage i out of tolerance, adju t R809 until
the high voltage i within tolerance without over or
under going B+ voltage tolerance.
Note: Be cartain that B+ i 116.0 V ± 0.5 V with beam
current at zero during the High Voltage Adju t 
ment.
ABL ALIGNMENT
Thi i factory aligned. U ually no further alignment i
required in the field. However, when the A-Board, or CRT
i replaced, the following alignment i nece ary.
1. Set the monitor to receive a cro hatch pattern from a
video ignal generator
2. Set Bright and Panabrite control at each click po ition.
3. Connect the DC voltmeter between TP86 and TP87
(po itive lead of the voltmeter to TP87 and negative lead
to TP86.)
4. Adju t the ABL control (R313) to obtain a voltmeter
reading of 6.0 V ± 0.2 V.

ALIGNMENT OF SUB CONTRAST
1. U e a color bar ignal.
2. Set Color control ( R605) fully counterclockwi e.
3. Connect an o cillo cope to TP48 of C-Board.
(TNP12950ZA)
4. Adju t the SUB-CONT control (R303) to obtain 1.7 V
p-p ± 0.1 Vp-p from the white level to pede tal level.
(See figure 12.)
APC ALIGNMENT
Preliminary Step (See figure 13)
1. U e a color bar ignal.
2. Set Color Control (R605), Bright Control (R309) and
Panabrite Control ( R304) in a fully clockwi e po ition.
3. Set Tint Control (R603) to mid-po ition.
4. Connect a jumper between terminal @ and terminal ®
ofIC601 .
5. Connect a 15 kC2 re i tor between terminal @ of IC601
and +12 V Line.
Alignment Procedure
1. Adju t APC Control (C607) to ju t ync the color bar .
2. Remove the jumper between terminal ® and terminal
© of IC601.
3. Remove the 15 kQ re i tor between terminal @ of
IC601 and +12 V Line.

HORIZONTAL HOLD ALIGNMENT
Alignment Procedure
1. U e a black and white video pattern.
2. Turn Horizontal-Hold Control VR (R507) on main
circuit board fully counterclockwi e.
3. Short R529 with jumper wire.
4. Turn the VR (R507) lowly clockwi e and et at the
point where horizontal hold ju t pull -in.
5. Di connect jumper wire.
CIRCUIT EXPLANATION
HORIZONTAL OSC, DISABLE CIRCUIT
1. Under normal operating condition , zener diode (D505)
i cut OFF due to it low cathode voltage.
2. When the pul e amplitude applied to diode D504 in 
crea e , it rai e the cathode voltage of zener diode D505.
A a re ult, D505 conduct .
3. The conduction of D505 increa e pin © voltage of
IC401 . Thi cau e the Horizontal O cillator Circuit to
top and the high voltage i reduced to zero.
