Laser Communication KIT
This machine transmits both AUDIO and VIDEO
signal by laser beam. It is a good example of a
basic optical communication system.
The Kit consists of:
•laser transmitter MLDD 3.0
•laser receiver with holder
•microphone
•loudspeaker
•adjustable transmitter holder
•power supply -2 pcs
•all contained in a plastic suitcase
1- Display of output power
2- Input connector for external LF-audio signal
3- Green control light-power
4- Power switch (turn the key right to switch on)
5- Input connector for external HF-video signal
6- Knob for controlling output power of laser beam
7- Laser diode with cable
Figure 1 Example of transmission of an audio signal
Figure 2 Example of transmission of a video signal
Operating instructions:
1. Connect power supplies to the MLDD 3.0 and the laser receiver. Both devices require the same voltage
(12V DC) so it is not important which adapter is connected to the MLDD and which to the laser receiver.
2. To transmit an audio signal connect the microphone to the input connector LF on the MLDD (2) and
connect the loudspeaker to the audio output connector on the laser receiver-RED CINCH (Figure1)
3. To transmit a video signal connect some source of video signal (video, CCD camera) to the input
connector HF on the MLDD (5) and connect the monitor or TV to the video output connector on the laser
receiver -YELLOW CINCH (Figure 2)
4. Turn on power on the MLDD 3.0 unit
5. Position the transmitter holder with the laser diode opposite the laser receiver so that the laser beam is
directed into the ground screen on the laser receiver. If necessary, the laser beam’s direction can be
adjusted horizontally and vertically by turning the two screws on the transmit holder. (Figure 1 and Figure
2).
6. Adjust the optical power of the laser to the desired level sing knob (6) on the MLDD. Maximum optical
power is recommended for use at the beginning of the experiment.
7. Adjust volume to the desired level by turning the knob on the laser receiver.
8. If you are transmitting a video you may have to improve the picture quality by fine adjusting position of
laser beam on the screen on reciever.
9. High frequency noise on power line may affect quality of transmited video signal.
Features:
Laser transmitter:
•Laser diode 635 nm – 1mW
•Laser class II
•setting up output optical power
•limiting output power
•voltage DC 12V
•low frequency input (audio) in frequency range 100Hz,,,10kHz
•high frequency input (video) – NTSC or PAL, 1Vpp, 75Ohm
•monitoring of optical power on built-in display
Laser receiver:
•voltage DC 12V
•Video output (Yellow CINCH) NTSC or PAL, 1Vpp, 75Ohm
•Audio output (Red CINCH) 8Ohm
•knob for adjusting level of output audio signal
