Installing Wireless Annunciator to existing Fixed and Wireless
Gas Detection Control Panels
This following is the step by step procedure to convert currently “Wired” Annunciator (with touch
screen) to a wireless Annunciator that monitors both the PT920 series Fixed control panel and PT2008
Wireless Controller.
Materials and assemblies required.
1. Two (2) Each RS-485 wireless Transmitter with pre-installed cable. One each for PT920 and
PT2008 Wireless Controller
2. New Main CPU / Display board assembly for PT2008 wireless controller. Replace the old board
with new one as this is needed for dual communication channels, for Wireless sensors and for
communicating with the Wireless Annunciator
3. New Wireless Annunciator with touch screen. This replaces the old “Wired” annunciator in the
TP or Rig Managers Office.
4. If needed external antenna with coax cable for wireless Annunciator or PT2008 Controller
Step by step installation procedure.
1. A new wireless Annunciator with touch screen. The unit has a wireless radio module inside the
enclosure. All is required to simply install the ac power connection and install dipole antenna.
This new annunciator will replace the existing annunciator that requires wire connection to the
main control panel. Simply remove the old one and install the new one.
**** If necessary the dipole antenna can be replaced with the outdoor antenna using coax cable
and connecting the antenna to the connector on top of the enclosure.
2. Install RS485 Transmitter (black box) to PT920 main control panel. Install the unit outside the
driller’s cabin. The RS485 wireless transmitter to install above the marshalling box as high as
possible to get good line of sight to the wireless annunciator. The power to the transmitter can
be taken from one of the sensor power connections. (24 VDC). ****Very Important. Connect
the RS485 connection directly to the transmitter +T and –T wires. DO NOT use the terminals
inside the marshalling box. Directly connect the wires to wires and use wire nuts to secure and
insulate.
3. Install new CPU/ Display assembly to PT2008 controller. Simply remove the old board and
install the new board to the controller.

4. Install RS485 wireless transmitter to PT2008 controller also.
5. PT2008 Repeater panel does not require any upgrade or change. It is compatible with new
design.
NOTE
The RS485 wireless transmitter simply requires the power connection (24VDC) and the RS485
connection from the PT920 control panel or PT2008 Connection board. The RS-485 terminal on
PT920 and PT2008 are labeled as +T and –T.

Wiring Connection- RS-485 Wireless Transmitter
Red -Connect to +24VDC (positive supply)
Black -DC Ground
Blue -Connect to –T (RS485)
White -Connect to +T (RS485)

System Overview
Model PT750 Series Wireless Annunciator is designed to communicate with the Fixed Gas
Control panel on the main Rig and the Wireless Control Panel on the Rig Camp. The line of
sight distance is 2 Km using dipole antenna.
The color touch screen display provides continuous gas readings for all the detectors
connected to the (fixed) main control panel and the wireless controller. Up to 16 detectors
can be displayed on a standard unit with 4.5” display screen. A larger screen display is used
for more than 16 channels.
PT750 requires RS-485 data transmitters to be installed on both Fixed and Wireless control
panel. No hardware configuration is required. Once RS485 data transmitters are installed on
the gas control panels, simply connect the AC power to the unit, follow a simple configuration
of the channels as outlined in the next section and the unit should be fully operational.
Installation
PT750 Annunciator is a wall-mount fiberglass unit. Annunciator must be installed indoor.
Simply mount the unit to the wall. If the line of sight is not clear to the RS-485 transmitter on
the fixed control panel or the wireless controller then external antenna at an appropriate
height must be installed. Connect the external antenna and the annunciator using a low loss
coax cable.

Startup
Upon unit power up a system information screen is displayed for few seconds and then
normal data screen is displayed.
The normal mode the unit display data from all the gas detectors interface to fixed and wireless
controller. Each detector can be assigned a location tag for easy identification. Refer to system
configuration section to assign location tags to each detector.

System Configuration
The only configuration required is to assign sensor location tags for the controllers and then
select if channel is enabled or disabled. To configure press the MENU button on the lower left
corner of the display screen and the following screen is displayed.
To select the option simply press the button or touch the edit field and a keypad will appear on
the screen.
1. Location Name: Touch the edit field for keypad to popup and then enter the name of
the location (example, Rig # or specific location of the site)
2. Edit Sensor Location Tags: Location tags for wireless and fixed controller to be edited.
Press the appropriate button to edit the sensor location tags.
The following 2 screen shots shows how the sensor location tags are entered. Location tags are
entered separately for the fixed and wireless detectors. To enter or change the location tags
simply touch the field and enter the data on the pop keypad.

Sensor Enable or Disable:The channel must be properly enabled or disabled.
On the Fixed control panel if the module / detector is not installed then that channel is simply
disabled. Similarly on the Wireless control panel if any channel is not active then the same
channel must be disabled on the annunciator. This is to avoid annunciator collect the data for
the sensor which is not connected and also to avoid any false alarm or Communication error
message on the screen.
On the screen shot below note that all the sensor for the fixed system are enabled but for the
Wireless control channel 8 is disabled since the controller is only equipped with 7 wireless
detectors.
Note: The Sensor location tags will not have any effect on the operation of the unit since these
tags are simply for readability and to determine the location of the sensor. The factory defaults
are the Channel numbers (1 thru 8) for each control panel. However, the channel must be
properly Enabled or Disabled to avoid error messages on the screen.

Alarm Test
This feature is used as a functional test for alarms. In many application this feature is also used
as a drill to check the readiness of the personnel on location to take necessary precautionary
actions.
On the System configuration menu screen press the “Alarm Test” button and the following
screen will be displayed.
The screen shows 4 buttons to activate / test alarms. Low and High alarm for H2S and LEL.
Simply press the Red (mushroom) button to toggle the alarm (ON/OFF).
Notice the Red Button on top right corner. Use the button if the annunciator is also to send
command to PT2008 Controller on the Rig Camp to activate the alarm installed on the camp.
If alarm test is not required on the Rig Camp simply press the button to disable. Thus there will
be no alarm on the Rig Camp Site.

Normal Operation
In normal operation the display screen will show the live reading of all the detectors. The
data on the screen is typically updated every 2 to 3 seconds. Each data block for a sensor
displays the gas readings as well as any diagnostic and trouble message. Following are
sample data display for a sensor.

Control Module on channel 8 (Fixed Gas Monitor), Module
in alarm bypass mode via Toggle switch on the module
Sensor in FAULT

Low Battery Signal. Only for battery operated
wireless Gas detector

Alarm Condition
If the sensor goes into alarm the sensor data reading starts flashing in red. Also the bold alarm
messages starts flashing on the status bar at the bottom of the screen.
Once the alarm clears the red flashing messages are cleared. However, the sensor location tag
will still be flashing. This feature is useful if any detector went into alarm and then cleared after
sometime. With the tag flashing the user can determine which detector went into alarm state.
This flashing tag can be reset or cleared by pressing the RESET button on the status bar.

Alarm Reset
When RESET button is pressed, the annunciator will send command to the control panels to
deactivate the alarms. However, if the high gas condition still exists the control panel will
reactivate the alarms. If alarms are cleared, pressing the RESET will clear the flashing sensor
location tags if any.
Alarm Bypass
Pressing the Alarm Bypass button will send the command to the control panel. The bypass
mode on the fixed control panel is a soft bypass for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes all the
control modules on the fixed system and wireless controller will return to normal mode.
