ADULT DEFAULTS setting,
connect a test lung, fill bellows
with oxygen, select VOLUME
CYCLE mode
•After 10 breaths check the
bellows returns to the top of the
housing. Check on the screen
that the tidal volume is between
600ml- 800 ml
•Remove the test lung and
occlude the patient ‘Y’ piece to
check the HIGH AIRWAY
PRESSURE alarm; unocclude
the patient ‘Y’ piece to check the
LOW AIRWAY PRESSURE

What do the
alarms mean?
1. Pressure jumps excessively
at beginning of inspiration:
•Airway obstruction OR Flow rate is
too high; decrease TV setting
2. Pressure jumps excessively
at end of inspiration:
•TV setting is too high; decrease TV
frequency setting OR,
•Could be caused by mucous
plugging; patient requires
suctioning.*
3. Sudden increase in patient
airway pressure:
•Tube kinking, coughing,
asynchrony or other obstructions
4. Inflation pressure too low:
•Leak in the circuit or disconnection;
check hose or connections
•Check ventilation parameters and
that patient valve is functioning
7
*
•Procedures such as suctioning will cause a loss of pressure
within the circuit and emptying of the bellows
•To offset, increase the oxygen flow by turning the flow knob (IMAGE A)
anticlockwise past the point that the bobbin is at the top of the flow tube
•Return to 9L/min immediately after reconnection and check ventilation
•Use the touch screen or the dial ,
pressing to confirm
•In the ADULT DEFAULTS setting, VOLUME
mode, the parameters that can be changed
are: frequency, tidal volume, pressure limit,
I:E ratio, PEEP
•Use the display screen to monitor parameters.
The default waveform is always Pressure vs.
Time (cmH2O vs. seconds) (image D)
•Start in Volume Controlled Ventilation
(Section 3)
• Select ‘PRESS’ on the display screen 
and press once
•Set TARGET to 35 cmH2O
•Select by pushing grey knob 
•Ventilation starts
•Set Rate to 20, I:E 1:2, PEEP to 15
using (with a compliant test lung / bag
large tidal volumes will be delivered)
•Check Oxygen reads 80%
•Attach to patient AND Check Tidal Volumes
