3 Safety
3.1 Intended use
Within the IDENT-M System V microwave identification system of Pepperl+Fuchs, the
TCP/IP connection MVI-F57-2HB12 serves to connect the MVI-D2-2HRX Control in-
terface unit to a higher-level Ethernet TCP/IP network. The TCP/IP connection may
only be operated with the system components of the IDENT-M System V of
Pepperl+Fuchs.
3.2 General Safety Instructions
3.3 Functional integrity/monitoring
The components of the TCP/IP connection work on the basis of a microprocessor. De-
vice states, function faults, and device errors/defects are reported via LEDs
(MVI-D2-2HRX and TCP/IP coupler) or with the LC display.
In addition, functional monitoring is possible via Ethernet TCP/IP by querying status
information or with special commands for testing the device and components con-
nected to it. Device error or failure of a a read/write head, for example, can be detect-
ed and reported by a client in the Ethernet TCP/IP application in this manner.
Protection of operating personnel and the system is only ensured if the
TCP/IP connection is used in accordance with the usage for which it is
properly intended.
The MVI-F57-2HB12 device can only be operated by trained profes-
sionals in accordance with the available manual.
Any other type of operation than what is described in this manual places
the safety and functionality of the device and systems connected to it in
question.
Only professionals trained in electronics are permitted to connect the
device and to perform maintenance tasks with the power on.
If malfunctions cannot be corrected, the device must be taken out of
operation and protected from being placed back in operation acciden-
tally.
Repairs may only be performed directly at the manufacturer's facility.
No changes and operations made to the device are permitted and will
render any warrantee claim void.
The operator is responsible for adhering to local safety regulations and
directives.

4 Introduction
The TCP/IP connecting circuit MVI-F57-2HB12 is used to connect the MVI-D2-2HRX
Control interface unit of the IDENT-M System V microwave identification systems to
an Ethernet TCP/IP network. The data transfer of the identification system takes place
by means of a TCP/IP protocol.
In terms of individual details, the MVI-F57-2HB12 consists of the following compo-
nents:
• MVI-D2-2HRX
• TCP/IP - coupler
•LCDisplay
• 24 V DC or 115/230 V AC power supply
• F57 aluminium pressure die cast housing with window
• PG screwed connection for power supply, antenna and Ethernet cable
The connecting circuit is designed as a TCP server for receiving commands. It re-
ceives the telegram from a TCP client. As soon as the TCP reception has occurred,
the connecting circuit answers the TCP client with an answer telegram.
The Protection class of the connecting circuit is IP 65.

5 Commissioning
5.1 Preparatory mechanical tasks
5.1.1 Drilling seal inserts
Before the TCP/IP connection can be assembled and connected in the system, the
seal insert through which to guide the Ethernet cable, the power supply and the sen-
sor cable must be drilled. The seal inserts that will be required are included with de-
livery.
The seal insert is pre-manufactured so the antenna cable will fit through it. The illus-
tration below shows the location of the PG screwed connection on the housing:
Determine the diameter of the drill hole for the non-pre-manufactured cable and pro-
ceed as follows:
• To do this, insert the two halves of the seal insert into the body of the screwed con-
nection and tighten the cap nut slightly.
• Tighten the body of the screwed connection in place.
• Drill the seal insert with the desired diameter.
In order to be able achieve a Protection class of IP65, it is absolutely
essential to observe one of the following instructions.

To achieve a Protection class of IP65,
• the seal insert must be cooled with cold spray while it is being drilled.
or
• the seal insert must be cooled down to a temperature of -5°C or colder in a freezer,
after which drilling may take place.
or
• The seal insert may be drilled at room temperature so that it is greater in diameter
than the diameter of the cable by approximately 0.7 mm.
The following illustration show a good and a bad drilling job.
Make certain that the drilling process does not produce any grooves.
5.1.2 Mechanical assembly
Straps should be attached to the housing of the connecting circuit to facilitate the as-
sembly of the TCP/IP. These are included with delivery. They can be screwed in place
with the housing using M6x1 screws.
The housing is held in place at the installation location by these straps.
5.2 Electrical connections
5.2.1 Power supply
The power supply for the TCP/IP connecting circuit can be either 24 VDC or 230 VAC.
If the connecting circuit is supplied with 24 VDC, the conductors should be applied to
the distributor terminals through Connector 8 (ST8) (See “Appendix A: Wiring dia-
gram” on page61.).
If the TCP/IP connecting circuit is supplied with 230 VAC, the conductors should be
connected to the power pack by means of Connector 10 (ST10). The power pack gen-

For all three options, the drilling must be performed with a slow feed at
a drilling speed of 500 rpms.
There is no guarantee that a Protection class rating of IP 65 will be
achieved if drilling is performed without the use of cold spray.

erates the 24 VDC required for the components. The output of the power pack (Con-
nector 11; ST11) should be connected to mounting station ST8 by means of
Connector 6 (ST6) (See “Appendix A: Wiring diagram” on page 61.). The following as-
signment scheme should be used:

The voltage supply for the components is prewired and does not need to be set up. If
some of the components need to be replaced, please refer to the wiring diagram for
the necessary information (See “Appendix A: Wiring diagram” on page61.).
5.2.2 RS232 serial interfaces
The industrial PC (IPC) that belongs to the TCP/IP connecting circuit has two serial
interfaces, the "COM" Interface and the "EXT" interface. These interfaces work with
a TTL level. Both interfaces are connected with an RS232/TTL converter. The "EXT"
interface of the converter is connected with the MVI-D2-2HRX Control interface unit
of the microwave identification system. The "COM" interface of the converter is con-
nected with the display.
Both devices use a software handshake for communication. This handshake is used
by both the MVI-D2-2HRX Control Interface unit and the display. Because of this, the
hardware handshake signals of the RS and CS serial interface must be short-circuited
both on the Control Interface unit and on the display by means of a jumper wire (See
“Appendix A: Wiring diagram” on page61.).
5.2.3 Ethernet TCP/IP network connection
The network connection is made by means of an RJ45 connector. For the pin assign-
ment, please refer to the following illustration:
If the RS and CS connections of the two serial interfaces are not short
circuited, no communication will take place over the serial interface.

5.2.4 Connection of the read/write heads
For the connection assignment of the write-read heads (antennas) to the MVI-D2-
2HRX Control Interface unit, please refer to the "Ident-M System V manual (Order No.
36916)" of Pepperl+Fuchs. This is located on the accompanying CD-ROM or may be
purchased through the Pepperl+Fuchs homepage. (http://www.pepperl-fuchs.com).
This manual also contains assembly information for the read/write heads regarding
shielding concepts and problems associated with EMC.
5.2.5 Connecting the sensors to the IPC
The industrial PC that is used has 12 digital inputs of which 2,
inputs 0 and 1, are used. Sensor 1 should be connected on input 0 with connector
ST7; sensor 2 should be connected on input 1 with connector ST9.
For the wiring of these inputs, please refer to the wiring diagram (See “Appendix A:
Wiring diagram” on page61.).
5.3 Configuration
5.3.1 Configuration files required
There are 2 configuration files on the IPC.
• The file ip.cfg contains the information required for the network configuration. This
file is changed every time the settings are saved through the display.
• The file startup.bat is executed automatically if the "RUN/STOP" switch of the IPC
is in the "RUN" position.
This file should not be changed.
5.3.2 Configuration of RS232 interfaces
The display communicates via the serial RS232 "COM" interface, while the Control
Interface unit communicates via the "EXT" interface. The following parameters are set
for the interfaces:
The MVI-D2-2HRX Control Interface unit has 4 rotary encoding and DIP switches for
setting transfer parameters.
The "RUN/STOP" switch is only included for development purposes. It
is in the "RUN" position when it is delivered and should not be changed.
If the switch is moved to the STOP position, the application program of
the IPC will run the next time the system starts up, which may result in
failure of the system.

5.3.3 Setting the Ethernet TCP/IP communication parameters
The Ethernet TCP/IP communication parameters are set by means of the display and
are stored in the file ip.cfg. For the necessary information, please refer to Section 6 .
In principle, the parameters can also be set by using a PC/Laptop or similar device.
To do this, the corresponding device must be connected to the "COM" serial interface.
For the necessary RS232 parameters, please refer to Section 5.3.2 of this manual.
Any terminal software can be used as the communication software, for example the
HyperTerminal software that belongs to the accessoires of the Microsoft Windows op-
erating system. Please note the following relationship between the function keys of
the display and the keyboard:

6 Display Settings
The display can be used
• to read and/or modify the Ethernet TCP/IP settings.
• to perform simple communication tests.
The display shows 4 lines of 20 characters each.
6.1 The main menu
After the startup phase, the display is in the main menu and displays the following im-
age:
The currently installed software version may be seen in the topmost line.
The second line displays the current date.
The fourth line contains the commands that are available in the current menu. These
commands can be reached through Function keys F1 through F4 of the display. Note
the following relationship here:
6.2 Communication test
If the F1 key is pressed in the main menu, the display sends a Reset command via
the IPC to the MVI-D2-2HRX Control Interface unit. By observing LEDs SD and RD
on the Control Interface unit, you can monitor here whether communication between
the IPC and the Control Interface unit is working.
In this case, the LED RD (Receive Data) must first light up. This means that the Con-
trol Interface unit has received the command correctly. If the Control Interface unit has
been reset to the original status, it sends a confirmation to the IPC. In this case, the

6.3 Setting of the Ethernet TCP/IP parameters
You can reach the sub-menu that makes it possible to set the necessary Ethernet
TCP/IP parameters by pressing the F2 key in the main menu.
The following settings are required during commissioning:
• The setting for the IP address of the connecting circuit MVI-F57-2HB12.
• Setting of the netmask
• Setting of the address of the gateway/router
The function keys have the following meanings in this sub-menu:
6.3.1 Setting for the IP address of the connecting circuit MVI-F57-2HB12
In the sub-menu Setting of the TCP/IP parameters, press the F1 key. The IP address
of the connecting circuit that is currently set then appears. It has the following struc-
ture:

An IP address consists of four bytes. Each byte in the illustration above is represented
in decimal. The individual bytes are separated from each other by a period.
Since the number always represents one byte, its value cannot be greater than 255.
Numbers are always shown with three digits. You can only ever work with one digit of
a number at a time with the function keys. The following section describes how set-
tings are made.
Setting the gateway/router address is only required if the connecting cir-
cuit on an Ethernet TCP/IP network is operated with several sub-net-
works.

The function keys have the following meanings in this sub-menu:
To set the IP address, proceed as follows:
• Continue pressing the F3 key until you have reached the digit you would like to
modify
• Adjust the desired value with the aid of the F1 key (+1) or the
F2 key (-1).
The nature of this problem will be illustrated by an example:
Example 1: changing from address 192 to 255.
In this example, the second digit must first be set to 5 before the first digit can be
set to 2. The procedure would take place in the following order:
192 ==> 152 ==> 155 ==> 255.
• Repeat this procedure (moving the cursor and adjusting the value) as many times
as necessary until all digits have reached the desired setting.
• Press the F4 key. This takes you one level back so that you can use the F2 and F3
keys to adjust the netmask or the gateway/router address.
• If you do not want to make any additional settings, press the F4 key. The following
possibilities are available for you:
F1 ==> Cancel without saving and go back to the main menu
F2 ==> Restore the old setting
F3 ==> Save the new setting
• Confirm your setting with F3.

The system does not permit any numbers larger than 255. If increment-
ing or decrementing a digit results in a number that is greater than 255,
the system will not accept this setting. The digit to the left or right of the
current position must first be adjusted so that no number is generated
that is greater than 255.
Pressing the F3 key results invariably in saving the newly set value or
values and restarting the PC. After the PC has restarted, the values are
loaded into the connecting circuit where they can then be accessed
through the new parameters.

6.3.2 Setting the netmask
The netmask is used to set what the network class is for the Ethernet TCP/IP network.
You can obtain the necessary address from your network administrator.
To move from the main menu to the corresponding sub-menu, you must press the F2
key and then F2.
The procedure for setting the address is described under “Setting for the IP address
of the connecting circuit MVI-F57-2HB12” on page 13.
6.3.3 Setting the gateway/router address
If the application works with a number of sub-networks, it is not necessary to commu-
nicate the address of the gateway or router to which the connecting circuit is connect-
ed to the connecting circuit.
To move from the main menu to the corresponding sub-menu, you must press the F2
key and then F3.
The procedure for setting the address is described under “Setting for the IP address
of the connecting circuit MVI-F57-2HB12” on page 13.
6.4 The acknowledge key
During ongoing operation, error messages that are sent by the MVI-D2-2HRX Control
Interface unit are displayed in the first two lines. Please note following in relation to
these error messages:
• A new error message always overwrites an old error message. If an Control Inter-
face unit sends multiple error messages, only the newest message is displayed.
The older messages are automatically deleted.
• There is no immediate information about when the displayed error occurred (time
stamp).
Pressing the F4 key causes the displayed error message to be acknowledged, after
which the software version and date are again shown on the display.
6.5 Setting the language
To adjust the language, press the F3 key in the main menu.
Then select the desired language. Meanings of the function keys:
F1 ==> German
F2 ==> English
F4 ==> Cancel
Pressing the F1 or F2 keys automatically saves the settings.

7 Working principle of the communication sequence
The Control interface unit for TCP/IP MVI-F57-2HB12 is designed as a server. This
means that each function must be initiated by a command that is sent from the "client".
In principle, 3 cases must be distinguished for communication between client and
server:
1. A command that requires processing
2. A command that does not require any processing
3. A command that is sent from the client to the server during current command
processing.

If a command is sent from a client to the server, the command will be acknowledged
immediately. This confirmation telegram is identified by the fact that the command re-
sponse flag T1 (See page 23) is set to "1". In addition, the flag I1, Command active,
is also set to "1".
T1 = "1" indicates that the command has been received correctly.
I1 = "1" indicates that the command has been executed (is activated).
After the command has been processed, the server automatically sends the request-
ed data. This response is identified by the fact that T1 ="0" and
I1 = "0". This indicates that (T1 = "0"), that the transfer involves requested data and
not the confirmation of a command. I1 = "0" indicates that the Control Interface unit
is ready to receive new commands.

The response is only valid if the status received in the response tele-
gram is NULL. If the status is different than NULL, the message in que-
stion is an error message.

If a command is transferred that does not require any processing (for example the
command "Abort command"), the Control Interface unit responds only with an ac-
knowledgment telegram, which at the same time contains the response, insofar as
there actually is a response.
This telegram is identified by the fact that the command response flag T1
(See page 23) is set to "1". In addition, the flag I1 Command active is set to "0".
T1 = "1" indicates that the command has been received correctly.
I1 = "0" indicates that the Control Interface unit is ready to receive new commands.

If a command is received from the Control Interface unit while processing is still on-
going, it responds with the error message "Command still active". This response is
distinguished from the acknowledgement telegram in case 1 only by the fact that the
status is different than NULL. This means that in this case as well, T1 is set to "1" and
I1 is set to "1".

8 Communication TCP/IP <==> Control interface unit
The MVI-F57-2HB12 connecting circuit is designed as a server.
A TCP/IP client sends a command telegram to the TCP/IP server implemented in the
connecting circuit under the IP address that is set in the connecting circuit and Port
1313 with at least 7 bytes and a maximum of 1030 bytes.
The length of the telegram depends on the commands and data quantities to be trans-
ferred.
The telegram consists of a command area and the data area. The data area begins
with byte 7 and can go up to byte 1029.
The command parameters and commands are transferred in byte 0, 1 and byte 2.
Byte 0 contains the antenna. The command to be executed is masked in byte 1 and
2. It consists of two ASCII characters.
The destination address in the data carrier is indicated in bytes 3 and 4, while the
number of bytes to be transferred is specified in bytes 5 and 6.
These specifications refer to commands that require address/data length parameters.
The port through which the TCP/IP connecting circuit can be accessed
is set to 1313 and can not be changed.
The length of a request telegram, for example a read command, must
always be identical with the length of the response telegram that is
expected. The length of the request telegram is determined by the com-
mand plus the data quantity that is expected.
Data fields that are not required in the response telegram (for example
because the quantity of data sent is greater that the quantity of data that
is expected) are filled out with NULL.
