
Patient Tr ial Program
The Philips Sonicare Patient Trial Program is an opportunity for
patients to use the Sonicare Power Toothbrush, especially if they
haven’t tried it before. Please follow the tooth brushing instructions
precisely and use appropriate infection control techniques during this
procedure when handling a clean or used toothbrush. Please save
these instructions for future reference.
Preparation:
1Put on gloves
2Remove protective sleeve from the clean brush handle and take the
brush handle o the charger
3Hold the handle with buttons facing you and t one of the protective
sleeves from the kit through the small opening on the sleeve.
Note: Do not pierce or damage the sleeve.
4Pull the excess end of the sleeve back up to the handle and peel
away the tape to expose adhesive, then fold it across the bottom of
the handle and seal the sleeve closed.
Note: If the sleeve is impaired in any way, discard it and place a
new sleeve on the handle.
5Press the brush head onto the handle in such a way that the bristles
will face the front of the handle. Firmly press the brush head down
onto the metal shaft until it stops. The brush head will t over the
top of the sleeve.
Note: It is normal to see a slight gap between the brush head and
the handle.
6Ask the patient to brush teeth for 2 minutes following the separate
brushing instructions.
Reminder: Patient should brush over a sink.
7Hold handle upside-down and remove protective sleeve, Invert the
dirty side within the sleeve so only the protected side is touched.
If brush head is still attached, remove used brush head within the
sleeve.
Discard used sleeve and used brush head.
Notes: Do not put toothbrush handle in any type of autoclave
Cleaning and Disinfecting handle after each use:
1•Pick up the used handle using one piece of .
•Wrap a wipe around the used handle and wipe handle and metal
shaft up and down for at least 15 seconds ensuring all surfaces are
clean. Discard the wipe.
•Use a new wipe to repeat the same procedure for 15 seconds
assuring the surfaces are clean.
2•Wear clean gloves.
•Place handle in 1 gallon plastic zipping bag assuring that the
handle is lying at. Take care the metal tip does not pierce the
plastic bag.
Fill the plastic bag with CaviCide ™ disinfectant and squeeze out
excess air so the handle is fully immersed in solution; carefully seal
the bag.
3Soak the handle for at least 3 minutes (use timer).
Warning: Do not soak the toothbrush longer than 3 minutes.
4Put on gloves. Turn on the water faucet, open the bag over a sink,
and empty the liquid with water running from the faucet; discard
bag. Rinse the handle with distilled water. Wipe the handle with a
70% isopropyl alcohol wipe, to aid in drying the handle.
5Allow handle to air-dry; then place clean handle in a protective
sleeve and place on charger for at least 15 minutes before next
Professional Trial, discard used gloves.
Note: Charge handle overnight at the end of each day. Store and
use at room temperature (60-95°F).
Note: If unit is damaged or non-functioning, do not modify or
repair the product. Contact Sonicare® Representative for
replacement.
6After the handle is disinfected, record the number of uses into
the Handle Cleaning and Disinfection Log. This log will keep track
of number of times the handle was disinfected and used. Do not
exceed 240 brushings.
The Test Drive handle should not be used more than 240 times.
